Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks

The actual firework display deserves an A+; however, because of the type of music being played during the presentation I generously gave it a C. The music selection (except for maybe 3 numbers) did not mesh with the beautiful colorful sky. I am very surprised at both Macy’s & NBC for allowing a celebration of our country to be turned into a concert. There were many more appropriate songs that could have been used as the accompaning music for the display. As an American I am very dissappointed I feel that the real purpose of the fireworks was forgotten during the correlation. Hope they take a good look at what the actual occassion was (America’s Birthday) and try to do better next year.

Absolutely terrible. Instead of being visible to countless New Yorkers from the comfort of their roofs and dozens of great spots up and down the East River in most of the boroughs, the fireworks are restricted to people who can spring for VIP access to hotel rooftops in Manhattan, etc, etc. Oh, and New Jersey.
I don’t think it will ever switch back, and you can be sure there are financial reasons for that which have nothing to do with throwing a great celebration of our independence. It’s a shame, but whatever. One less reason to ever shop at Macy’s? Not that I needed one.
For the record, I saw 5 East River shows before they moved, and each was more incredible than the last. Really a moving, nearly transcendent experience to share with so many other residents of NYC. Now it’s about craning my neck to maybe make out a couple of sparklies, shrugging, then getting back to my burger. I hope Jersey is kicking in on the cost of this thing.

I’m reviewing this because it came up in a google search of «WHY ARE THE FIREWORKS ON THE HUDSON RIVER AGAIN?».
This is my third 4^th of July in New York City, and also the third time that I will have to leave my beloved borough so that I may pretend to be friends with someone I never talk to, only because they live in Hell’s Kitchen. I’m going to just ignore the whole New Jersey option.
I HAVE NO FRIENDS IN HELL’S KITCHEN, and New Jersey IS NOT IN New York.
What about Queens? or really, what about the other four boroughs? Where does this R.H. Macy dude get off on excluding NYC in exchange for Hoboken?
If it weren’t the best holiday in America, this would be enough to boycott.
