History

Established in 1963.

The Howell Nature Center has taken shape over the last 50 years as a true labor of love of many dedicated and passionate people. There is not another facility in the country that provides the scope of programs offered here, which include Camp and Conference — Nature Center — Wildlife Rehabilitation — Wildlife Park — Environmental Education Center, all rolled into one comprehensive package. The 280-acre Nature Center was established to serve as a camp and conference center for the Presbytery of Detroit in 1963. since that time, the facility has grown from one small lodge to encompass seven modern lodges, administration buildings, a welcome center, wildlife rehabilitation facility, and the midwest’s only Heifer Global Village Center. An expansion of day use facilities in the early 2000’s added the hands-on Nature Zone, Alexandria’s Naturescape, zip lines, high ropes courses, climbing towers, and more.
