It seems like yesterday that my dream of owning my own school became a reality with Yorkshire Academy. We started out in West Houston as a preschool with 80 students, and gradually made our way to offer an exciting program for children from 18 months through fifth grade with almost 250 students. Our parents continually ask us to expand further to middle school, but we’ve chosen to concentrate on providing what we feel is the best, most comprehensive program for younger children available in the area.

Shirley Swinbank had a childhood dream of starting her own school, and in 1984 she made that dream a reality when Yorkshire Academy was founded. Yorkshire Academy began as a preschool and quickly grew into a school for 18 months — fifth grade students educating over 250 students annually. Known locally as a premier school for young children, in recent years, Yorkshire’s repuation has expanded globally, and now the student population has students from over 55 countries.
