Tiny restaurant. You seat yourself, if you were wondering. The booths are very, very small. My friend and I had to sit on opposite ends to fit comfortably and even with that, I felt really close lol.
Not sure what kind of restaurant this place is. They had a mix of items but it’s okay, it worked.
Honey chipotle shrimp: great flavors and not too battered (⁵⁄₅)
Garlic chicken: battered chicken on a bed of spinach and mashed potatoes. They were not kidding when they said garlic though, for all you garlic lovers out there. (⁴⁄₅)
Tikka masala: the chicken was a bit dry but the flavors were good. The pita bread was my favoriteeee. Made the dish better. (⁴⁄₅)

I’m really disappointed in the new menu. The menu used to have a selection of apps, salads and sandwiches, as well as some hot meals. Now it is all items to share with only 4 hot meals.
I reluctantly decided on the smoked chicken street tacos with melon pico and my husband ordered the lamb dumplings with greek yogurt and cucumber. We also ordered the acorn squash gnocchi as a starter. My tacos were so boring. The tortilla was kind of pancake like and fell apart after about 2 bites into the first one. Once I moved on to the second, the tortilla was so mushy I couldn’t pick it up. Thank goodness for the squash gnocchi to turn my opinion around on the food. Those were delicious. My husbands meal was amazing. I can’t wait to go back and order it myself.
Unfortunately I think this new menu is a form of suicide for this spot. On a weeknight it should be filled with couples grabbing a casual bite after a long day or a work out. With all of this share style food and these delicious, yet heavy, hot meals, there is no desire for me to come here on a weekday for a quick, casual meal. I would like to be able to order a salad and my husband still be able to order something more substantial. When we get in the car to grab a bite when I don’t feel like cooking we want to go somewhere close… Ruggles Green, Sonoma, Collina’s, Lola… all have healthier options than Witchcraft now offers. I just don’t think this spot has the endurance to keep pushing it to a bar set up when I feel the neighborhood wants it to stay a dining destination. They’ll probably close shop soon and Ken will say that «The Heights wasn’t ready for this kind of elevated food» but it will be a lie. The food is great, but I don’t want a $ 15 lamb dumpling on a weeknight, I desire lighter fare. I miss their old menu, especially the feta and watermelon salad.

Came for dinner to test out the new menu. Changed it to tapas style so our party of 3 ordered our drinks and 6 dishes: cheddar hoecakes, sunchoke fries, Korean fried quail, bbq’d black hill pork, tx wagyu sirloin, and gulf shrimp. Everything tasted really good but for the price you’re paying its just not enough. I get the concept of tapas but I seriously felt like it was plated for a 4 year old girl playing house. Itty bitty plates; most things came in fours (hoecakes, shrimp, quail). The black garlic crust on the wagyu was an after thought. Pushed it to the side and just ate the beef. The pickles w/​the pork are bread and butter type and a little sweet.
Don’t get me wrong, the food was delicious but after our $ 90+ tab I’d want to be a little fuller. Trekked it onion creek to grab more food since we were still hungry.

Returned a week later for Friday Date Night Chef Josh and team exceeded our expectations again. starting out with the Cheddar Hoecakes. DAMN!
Followed by the Duck Baloney Burger CRAZY GOOD!
Next plate Lamb and Dumplings. I Should be using an F Bomb. Don’t Miss it

I will eco the sentiment of some of the other recent reviews, and try to keep this short. Last week they launched a new small bites, I guess you can say tapas, menu. I wanted to come in with an open mind, and I like all kinds of different food so there was no reason I should be disappointed.
While I really do appreciate the effort that went into the new menu, it seems overly complex and not everything works. Pickled eggs are… interesting, and I always love trout roe, but the tiny potato cubes and green bell pepper, with a strange crunchy gin & lime thing did not work. Korean fried qual was on point and actually fairly filling, not to mention piping hot. Roasted carrot spiring rolls are not bad, but again they seem to be trying to hard. The sunchoke fries are not fries at all, but sunflower root which is not necessarily bad, just off. They should have kept some of their other small bites on, like the pot stickers. Worse yet, happy hour for beer and of coarse food is gone. The only happy hour they have is for a few glasses of wine, which is fine but they tried to make their bones as a beer bar. I might continue to give the new menu a try cause nothing was bad, just not «right.» Though it is to busy (the food is busy that is, hardly anyone was here), and to expensive for what you get. I don’t think I could ever get a full meal no matter how much I ordered. Kind of a generous 3 star, cause I do like the group and this bar. Though can easily see why people give it less. Lets hope this schizophrenic bar can eventually get it right. Shepherd Park Draught house is without a doubt the best in this group.

Not sure why they changed the menu. I liked the old menu and the food was really good.
I would return for drinks but it will no longer be a place I would go to eat.

Dear Witchcraft,
This was the worst meal I have had since moving to Houston. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the menu and the prices for what atrocities that were presented to me. The drink menu was notable for it had some interesting takes on some classic cocktails but unfortunately the cocktail menu paired horribly with anything you could get on the food menu, it’s as if the guy who came up with the food menu and the cocktail menu never met nor did they know their menus would be in the same state let alone under the same roof. Let me get down to the food though, that’s where this all really truly went wrong, we ordered the Vietnamese Crab Pancakes to start with which had had a laughable presentation and we’re miserable to try and eat they fell apart when trying to pick them up, they we’re horribly bland and the crab had so many bones left in it making it inedible. So now we moved on to what the waitress said was the most popular, the $ 12 lone star chicken jar. This was beyond horrible, In fact when describing this to my friends I had run out of adjectives to express how miserable this was to eat. It was supposed to be lone star chicken and rice… nobody mentioned the inch and a half of pork fat that was disgusting and tasted like wax and gristle. GROSS. So after scooping this off the top of the jar and eating the pieces of chicken skin on the top we got to the rice and the chicken what was supposedly cooked in lone star. It was tasteless, the rice was hard almost crunchy and the most taste I got out of it was watery and gristle covered celery. Not okay. So when I told the waitress how miserable this all was she tried desperately to come up with excuses and then came to the point where she just agreed that she has no idea what the owners think they are doing and it’s an unpleasant place. I was then charged $ 50 for this miserable mess. We had 2 drinks and 3 bites of absolutely atrocious food… for $ 50… I would have dropped fifty cents on the table and called it even had I not worked in the service industry and felt bad for the waitress. So I laid my money down and walked out feeling robbed and violated. Thanks witchcraft, but no thanks.

I really wish I had gotten the memo that Witchcraft was making a massive change. My boyfriend and I went by last night to get Stilton burgers, but found that their menu was completely different. No burgers, no brunch. What?!
They have transitioned to smaller portions, but the prices are still comparable to their previous menu. We tried the Sunchoke Fries which came in a small bowl (we’re talking 3″ diameter, 1″ deep) for $ 6. The fries were delicious, but we were really jonesing for burgers.
Make sure to double check the menu before you head over for your favorites. 4 stars because I’ve never had a bad meal there. Change is always good, but I still feel a bit disappointed. We’ll come back when we’re feeling more adventurous.

Truffle fries were AMAZING!
Hubby tried the andouille sausage burger and it was phenomenal! I had the beef tenderloin champignons and the beef was very tender.
…quiet place, very small – JAMMED some old school 80’s music and it was AWESOME. Came a little after dinner time, around 9 and there were only 4 ppl inside and a few ppl on the patio… didn’t have to wait long at all for service. Would recommend.

Cute gastropub with a great variety of rotating beers on tap and delicious food!
Their beers on tap include several local and regional beers — Karbach, Saint Arnold, Live Oak, (512), Real Ale, and Buffalo Bayou!
Surprisingly good vegetarian options, including truffle fries, veggie flatbread, veggie burger, watermelon salad, seasonal pear salad, and a vegetable/​herbed cream cheese sandwich!
I can personally recommend the veggie burger!
They serve brunch on Saturdays and Sunday from 10am until 2 pm, during which time they offer the full menu and some additional brunch items!

Two stars does not reflect on atmosphere and service; both have always been great.
If you had asked me about this place 6 months ago, I would have given rave reviews, and 5 stars. I used to always suggest it when someone couldn’t decide where to go for lunch.
Recently, this place has seemed to have declined significantly. My friend and I had our fourth underwhelming visit recently, and we have decided to remove it from our lunch rotation.
The main issue is with the food. The food here used to be extremely good, and totally worth the slightly high prices. Recently, the food has been over cooked, dry, or under seasoned. I don’t know if there are new cooks who haven’t been sufficiently trained or what, but now I am usually left regretting paying so much for food that wasn’t worth it.
I feel like this place had a pretty good thing going. I hope they can work out the kinks and get back on track.

This was my second visit and also my second very good experience.
Witchcraft is what I would describe as a gastorpub. A very nice collection of craft beers, mixed drinks and an eclectic assortment of good food. From pork chops to Tikka Masala. Also a very nice assortment of appetizers.
They have casual seating inside and about six tables set up outside.
On my last trip we all had burgers. I had the Andouille Burger and the group also had the Stilton Burger and the Blues Burger. All were creative, used high quality ingredients and were creative and well balanced.
The only complaint was that I ordered my burger medium-​rare and what I got was well-​done. It was still very tasty, but there was no run-​down-​your hand juiciness. Also, there is my pet peeve. The burgers are cooked on a metal griddle rather on a flame grill. I know that’s a matter of personal preference, but the extra flavor from flame grilling would have elevated the burgers to 5-​stares.

As far as staff goes, all of them are friendly. Frank, Audrey, and Ben are my favorite bartenders in the Houston area. Ben always mixes some mean cocktails for Saturday Night Fever! Not a thing to miss. Any other day of the week, someone can hook you up with a great drink. There are twenty taps that are constantly rotating. If you like craft beers, this place is a MUST!
As for food, I enjoy almost everything on the menu. My go-​to plates are generally from their starters or «Small Plates.» The Singapore ribs, pot stickers (ask for them pan seared), crispy chili wings, and honey chipoltle rock shrimp are all ¹⁰⁄₁₀. As for their burgers, I recommend the Stilton to everyone. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the Tikka Masala.

Sadly, I was very underwhelmed by this place. It has such a cool name, but not enough pizzaz to support it. First of all, it’s in a pretty random location. It’s situated in a small strip center in the heights. Once you enter inside, it is dimly lit with hanging lanterns from the ceiling. My boyfriend and I agree that we think it was a Chinese food place before becoming a bar. It’s maintained that look but with beer now.
As for the drinks, there were not a lot of options. The draft wall was pretty tiny and the amount of bottles that they carried was even smaller. I asked for a Michelob Ultra and a Coors Light, of which they had none. Who doesn’t carry those? That’s basic beer.
In the end, we ordered one beer each and left. For a a Saturday night, we wanted something with a bigger beer selection and a livelier crowd. Maybe if I were in an antisocial mood on a random day of the week I would visit it, but certainly never on a weekend.

I really like burgers and this place blew my mind. I ordered the Andouille burger which has jalapeño bacon jam, and it’s as good as it sounds. The patties are great but can be a bit much for someone who doesn’t have a giant appetite. The buns buckle under trying to cut the burgers and can make the whole affair a mess. The atmosphere is great and they keep the place really clean. It’s in a weird spot in Houston, but that just adds to the charm of the place.

It’s close to our house and we were on the way to another regular brunch place when I decided to try something new. Looked up their menu on Unilocal and looked like a decent breakfast/​brunch choice.
Unfortunately they had severely pared down their brunch menu so there were only a few choices. Ok, no problem. We ordered a couple things. And it was ok. Very obvious it’s not catered towards the Sunday brunch crowd, and we’ll most likely stick with our regular choices from now on.

We decided to try a gastro pub we’d never been to. (We were in a rut) so we decided to give Witchcraft a try. Not being a drinker at the time, I will only speak to the food in my review.
The atmosphere is very cool. A bit hipster is with the eclectic décor but very cozy. It’s obviously a neighborhood joint with a lot of regulars.
We started with the truffle fries. Try were ok, but I expected a bit «more» in the flavor department. I know they didn’t claim to be Parmesan garlic fries or anything, I’m just spoiled.
They have a truly great veggie burger. Homemade with an excellent bun. I would definitely order it again and recommend it to any veggie burger lovers.
The hubby ordered the meatballs. He said they were a little under charred for his taste but had a good flavor. He said the sauce was good too. He said he’s not sure he’d get that a second time though.

It’s ironic that I love eating at gastropubs although I don’t drink often. Or rather, can’t drink, because I possess the top three traits linked to the inability to process alcohol– female, Asian, and small-​framed. Maybe I just like bar food and dark spaces.
My friend proclaimed that he wanted to eat healthier, so he got the watermelon salad… along with a burger and truffle fries. I didn’t understand his reasoning at all, but I kept my mouth shut because I wanted to try some of his burger.
I considered ordering the white girl sandwich purely for the name, but held out for the curried chicken sandwich. It was worth it.
The Andouille burger was large and juicy, and bacon jam– ’nuff said. I personally loved the Stilton burger with blueberry blue cheese. Odd pairing, but it totally worked. Don’t be afraid to try it. Unless you detest blue cheese, in which case, be very afraid. No cheese is too stinky or moldy for me.
If you’re in the neighborhood, check out Witchcraft Tavern. They have something for people who love burgers, those who love salads, and the eccentrics who might want both in the same meal.

Yesterday was one of those «I need to leave the office before I say something that will cause my badge not to work tomorrow» kinda lunch days for me. Dropped by this place for a quick snack.
I was greeted quickly & sat on the patio to enjoy the great cool breeze we won’t see in the next few months LOL. Wasn’t too hungry so I only got the truffle fries.
Since it was after the lunch bunch & before the HH ho-​down, my order came quick. I was really suprised at the mound of fries. For $ 5 it wasn’t bad at all. They were very fresh & I could taste just a slight hint of sugar mixed in w/​the salt sprinkles. Truffle oil taste could’ve been a tad bit stronger, but then again I’m one that loves & can take quite a bit of it.
Not bad for my 1^st visit. The look inside has this cool, kicked back vibe to it, so I’ll be back to check it out during HH or a lazy Saturday afternoon.
