The Union Kitchen

I have been here about 15 times and have never had anything on the menu I didn’t like. We always request Travis as our waiter when he is there because he is the best but we have had great service with everyone so far.
The Calamari appetizer is excellent. The Fish is superb. The Shrimp and Scallops are perfection and are paired perfectly with the Parmesan risotto. They cook the Filet perfectly and are some of the best filets we have had in years. Their homemade balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing is so good they should bottle it (no joke).
Don’t leave without trying the Chocolate Mouse cake or the Chocolate Tower (my all time favorite dessert. Chocolate cake and mascarpone. YUM!
We came here originally as a Groupon user since its fairly close by. But we keep coming back for the delicious menu items.
I already want to go back talking about all the menu items.

Cajun seafood pasta pizza: (²⁄₅) the pizza dough was good, but the pasta on top was way too salty for me
Truffle mac and cheese: (³⁄₅) creamy but lacked flavor; my bf stated there wasn’t enough truffle flavor so the manager had a new one made with more truffle flavor which was nice of him. I also like the potato chips crushed on top, gives a nice texture
House ravioli: (⁵⁄₅) delicious!-even as a to-​go item. The only thing lacking is protein, but that’s just me (I need protein in all my meals)
Side note: I had brunch at the Bellaire location before, I don’t remember the meal but I certainly remember the corn muffins. They were delicious! I wish they provided them all day, not necessarily as a menu item but have the option available for those who want to order them. I don’t know if the memorial location serve them at all or if it’s reserved only for brunch time.

All good things must come to an end. I visited UK a few weeks ago and was distraught to learn they no longer make the shrimp burger. Why would they remove the one item I can’t find anywhere else? I was hurt and disappointed I looked over the menu one full hour before choosing an appetizer I didn’t enjoy — the crab/​shrimp balls. They had a fishy taste that didn’t fare well with me.
The muffins remain (for now) and continue to be a tasty treat and the bottomless mimosas are refreshing. I’m not sure I’ll return again.

Just to get the bad out of the way. The tables are too close together. You can hear everything the people around you are talking about, and the waiters bump your chairs to get meals to the tables. Also, the service is a bit on the slow side.
Now for the good news. The food is delicious and the prices will not break the bank.
We started with the carnita potstickers. Drizzled in a ginger lime salsa and served small spots of hot sauce on the plate, these were a good starter. 5 to a plate for $ 11. The pork had a good flavor and the ginger lime salsa was a good combination.
The pork loin was «fork tender» and flavorful. The reduction sauce was wonderful. Served on spaghetti squash and sweet potato mash. I would get this every time.
The pistachio crusted chicken was also a hit. Served with mushrooms, artichoke hearts and «sun-​dried tomato lime cream sauce». Another great flavor combination. This was served on top of linguini marinara. A large portion, leaving plenty to take home.

Great restaurant on the west side of town when you don’t feel like dealing with the parking mess that is CityCentre. (And I sure don’t.)
Met up a couple of friends from high school. Started out with spinach and artichoke dip (not boring, very delicious, I swear) and a bottle of cab. Cab is my newly discovered favorite.
Got the meatloaf tower. It’s literally a tower. Bottom to top: Texas toast, meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes, fried onions. YES YES.

I can’t say enough amazing things about this. The pistachio crushed chicken was so good! And the mint cheesecake was rich and perfect to split between a couple people.

The last time I went our waiter was extremely inattentive, all of the other waiters had to end up taking care of us. The coffee was cold and they would take forever to refill my so call «endless mimosa» the food is extremely filling, I wouldn’t say is the best food around though. I like the place a lot but I would say they need improvement.

Beautiful restaurant with a very lovely, relaxing environment. Went here with a friend on a Friday night and we dined outside. They have lots of soft glowing string lights out there that create a nice atmosphere. We split a bottle of Skyfall wine, which was delicious, and tried their chicken lettuce wraps (very average) as well as their Tyler’s Chicken Pasta, which is fettuccine pasta and chicken tossed with a sun-​dried tomato pesto cream sauce. That was AMAZING. The sauce is out of this world. I really want to try to make it at home on my own. Never tasted anything quite like it.
I give four stars because while the service wasn’t horrible, but you could distinctly tell that our waiter just wanted to get the hell out of there for the night. He seemed absent minded and just plain unhappy. Also they give you free bread, but you have to ASK for it, and they bring it to you in a white paper bag… I have no idea what that’s about. The service and the bread thing was just awkward to me.
I think I would go back and give it another shot though, the pasta and the wine was a knockout. Everything else was very average.

We had a great time. Will be back!
Robert was our server, he was incredible. Truly made our night even better and got us to try wines we wouldn’t have otherwise tried.
Two people got pizza, it looked like a winner. I got the «small plate» frito pie macaroni. It was great! And plenty for a meal. The guys got meatloaf sandwich, both cleaned their plates!
The fiancé loved it, we will be back to try more!

I would give 0 stars if I could. I’m a business owner so I understand value to customers. Your $ 7 four bite salad, that cost you .30 cents is atrocious! Your $ 10 chili that came in a 3oz cup; you have to be kidding me! I spent $ 70 on 2 salads, 2 «bowls» of chili, 1 kid pizza, 1 kid Mini burger, and 1 empanada app (which was tasty).

I had a wonderful meal here tonight. It was quite crowded, and we had a bit of wait once seated until a server greeted us. However, everything went smoothly after we were helped!
The alcoholic limeade drink is delicious. I would give the bread here a thumbs down though. It is nothing special and a bit dry.
I started with the soup of the day, which was a black bean and chorizo. It had great flavor! However, it was so thick, that it is really hard to consider it a soup. It would make a wonderful bean dip, but I definitely want to acknowledge that it tasted great and was full of flavor.
I ordered the truffle, gorgonzola and pear pizza, and it was delicious. In place of tomato sauce, there was a gorgonzola cream sauce, which gave the pizza such a unique flavor. It had sliced pears on it along with arugula. The truffle flavor was a bit hard to find, but I did taste a hint of it. I loved the pizza though and am excited to heat up the leftovers.
Overall, I enjoyed the meal and definitely give Union Kitchen points for all of the wonderful flavors.

Flavorful Black mussels, served with a hot slice of bread. For around 10 dollars, it will fill you up. Bread pudding served in cubes of sweet goodness, don’t miss this.

I met with a group of women and with the table size of 8. orders were made off of the Restaurant Week menu. the food came out very slow and inconsistent with in the plates.
Appetizer: empanadas
Entrée: crab cake
Dessert: banana bread pudding
The empanadas were honestly the best thing that we had that I had the whole dinner for lunch I should say the crab cake was dry and it just seemed like they were frozen cake that they fried and them to stand in between two pieces of bread with a little bit of sauce the banana bread pudding has to be the worst and I would never advise anyone too order it. Such a big disappointment very large chunks of very hard slimy pieces in it that I just could not bring myself to eat. I even offered to someone else at the table and they declined after taking the fork in filling the consistency of the hard peaces.
Needless to say not my choice of restaurant to go back and and visit

Ordered the following :
1. Mussels with white sauce — Sauce was great but the mussels were over cooked and dry when bitten into.
2. Ahi Tuna — Ordered rare. Tuna was nice but the steamed rice that came with it was undercooked. It was served with some sauce that resembled Sweet Thai Chili Sauce that is available from your local store. Also came with Bok Choy that was cooked well. Nice crunch and texture.
3. Pete’s Steak Sandwich — nice! Liked the cheese and chips and the sandwich itself.
Over all and average experience food wise. Service was prompt and good.

Tried this place out for lunch to give it a second try. Had brunch for the first time a week ago. Brunch was mediocre, ordered the crab cakes, came out room temperature. Shared the donut holes with Nutella — not too bad ⁴⁄₅. Unlimited mimosa is worth it for the price. We got seated in a separate room that was extremely dark and gloomy.
Lunch today @ ~3:15pm. Only 2 other table were occupied in the dining room area. Ordered food and took abt 45 minutes to get served. An older gentleman at the table next to us asked the waiter how long it takes to make a salad. LOL. After we eventually received our food my friends plate was very sadly looking. Our waiter informed us that there was a new line chef and that the experienced chef will be remaking my friends sandwich. Abt 20mins later the new sandwich came and it was happier looking compared to the first.
Probably won’t be dining again by choice anytime soon.

I have nothing negative to say about my experience at Union Kitchen!
Service was awesome. It was brunch hour on a Saturday and the place was awfully busy, but our server was prompt, kind, and personable.
I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict and was very satisfied with my order. Mmm I finally got my crab cake fix! I was very full and happy at the end of my meal.
My favorite thing about Union is the bottomless mimosas. Only $ 9! It probably wasn’t the best idea before going to watch Jurrasic World, but still a good one nonetheless :)

I came here on a Friday night and we were able to get a table on the patio. The restaurant is nice with simple decorations.
Steam mussels (3.5÷5)
Tostada (⁵⁄₅) — Omg, it was the best ahi tuna tostada I ever had. It was flavorful, fresh and citrusy.
Parmesan truffle oil fries (²⁄₅) — For some reason it was soggy… did not taste good.
Chicken pesto & basil (3.5÷5) — It was decent and I enjoyed it especially the artichokes.
Ravioli (3.5÷5)
The hostess and waitress were nice, so no complain there
Overall, it’s a nice restaurant with decent food with good menu selections.

So so so pleased with today’s meal! I usually rate lower than the average, but definitely giving it 5 stars today!
Went in for my mom’s birthday and she was so happy!
Crab stuffed avocados. $ 12.95 for two pieces. Pricey… But they’re huge! Well fried with a generous amount of crab meat inside. Avocado was a pretty green color so you know they weren’t trying to cheat you frying it. The pico and chipotle aioli added a nice touch.
Chipotle Shrimp pizza. Bread was thin and chewy. Each slice had like 5 pieces of shrimp on it! Red onions and the chipotle sauce was «spicy» enough and nothing smelled fishy which is always good.
Cajun grilled chicken linguine. My moms favorite! Green bell peppers, red bell peppers, red onions, mushroom. All my favorite vegetables! Not too creamy and greasy and cheesy. Would definitely get it again.
We got free dessert for her birthday and it was REALLY GOOD. Wish I knew what it was.

I got the California Benedict and it was made to perfection. They also are really good for groups. We came we come friends after church and we had a great time. The server not only was accurate and all the options he offered but also he had a great attitude.
For restaurant I really look forward to having a server with a great attitude. I don’t know what’s the manager training their guys but it’s outstanding. In another note the menu for breakfast is not that impressive you will find the typical menu. If they would have the Union speciality that differentiate from other breakfast places would be nice.
Over all great experience

This place wasn’t my favorite in comparison to my other weekend dining adventures. The highlight of this place, however, were the cornbread muffins. Notice that there were no pictures taken of it, because they went immediately! They were so small, soft, and the butter was superb!
My California Eggs Benedict was forgettable to me. Maybe the avocado made it too bland? I just didn’t feel any kick or outstanding flavor that set this apart from anything in the menu.
The tiramisu was pretty good though. If you are sensitive to alcohol flavor, then prepare yourself because there’s a lot of liquor that’s about to flood your taste buds. The chocolate tower, in my opinion, was way too creamy and too much.
Perhaps your next visit there will be a tad more tasty than mine :)
