The Rendezvous Spa

WTH, I called to schedule an appointment for a nice relaxing message (great way to use my gift card), and the business phone number is not working. No message, no nothing! Then for kicks and giggles, I called the Bergamos in Friendswood and sure enough they confirmed that the River Oaks Spa is closed.
Now I have to figure out how to get the reimbursement to the person who bought me the gift card.

Do not book this spa! I booked a month in advance to take my best friend there for her birthday. Gave them all my contact information. Used a prepaid voucher. We both took off work for our 2pm massage appts. Showed up 30 minutes early. Sign on door said «closed» No info or excuse. No phone call ahead of time. It was a Tuesday. Tried to call them, but the mailbox was full. Wonder why? Finally was able to leave a message the next day, but they have failed to call back. Terrible terrible customer service. Fortunately, we looked on Unilocal,found Blossom Massage, headed over and got a great massage!

I’m so sad that this place has closed down! I was addicted to the sauna and steam room and would love to make as many appointments as possible just for those things.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful; I hope their new employers know how lucky they are to get them.

Spa has closed down, in the most unprofessional way possible.
Had a 2:30 appointment for a prenatal massage – got to the spa and it’s closed. Voicemail box is full. Finally called Bergamos, which they used to be part of, and was told by them that Rendezvous had closed down.

Once again with the pleasant customer treatment! If you review my file you will see that I had a photofacial series, a process that does not even involve a therapist outside of one escorting you to a room. So don’t tell me it’s about a therapist’s time. Secondly, I understand a no call policy, but because I cancelled one appointment does not justify charging a cancellation fee that exceeds the price of all ten treatments! That makes NO sense! You charge a fee relative to the service given/​missed or remove services from a package to ensure the customer does not routinely miss. NOT penalize a cost equal to 10 times the treatment cost! Nor does it justify attitude towards a customer when they are on the phone. Your business specifically has chronic bad attitude.

Like a few of the gals here, I bought the living social deal for the brazilian wax. After reading the bad reviews I was very hesitant to actually book an appointment. I’ll take a gander at a restaurant with so-​so reviews, but risking a terrible experience while having your pubes yanked out of your lady bits was not a risk I was willing to take. Buuuut my bad judgement prevailed and (as is usually the case) I’m glad it did. My wax was awesome.
The spa itself was pretty nice, and flipping through the september issue in their sweet little relaxation room to the soothing sounds of Piano by the Ocean or some such corny yet relaxing nonsense was exactly when I needed when its 110 degrees outside.
After a short wait DeAnn came in, introduced herself, and in so many words let me know it was time to do the damn thang. She was fast, she was thorough, she was sharp as a tack. The whole thing took about 30 minutes, and she was chatty enough to be polite and distracting without ever getting annoying. She did a fantastic freakin job, and definitely got down with the tweezers when she had to.
I’ve been waxing for about 5 years now, and have enjoyed really nice and expensive places as well as suffered the horrors of European Wax Center. And my wax today was seriously one of my favorite ever. I’m thinking maybe the girls with the bad experiences may have met with the other esthetician because even on a bad day I can’t imagine DeAnn being as sloppy or slow as they described.
I’m sure I’ll be back here, and I will definitely make sure its with DeAnn.

Horrible customer service. I bought a deal and tried to schedule an appointment but they were unprofessional– talking over me, raising their voice, and putting me on hold multiple times. They obviously do not care to increase their clientele. For these reasons alone, I would not go here. Find other places who are willing to compromise and treat you like a client, even on the phone!

I bought a living social deal here for the Brazilian wax and after seeing the reviews I didn’t want to chance it with the wax. A massage, pedicure, facial, maybe but not a Brazilian wax. I was hoping that they would work with me an let me apply the $ 29 I paid for the deal towards another service. I didn’t want a discount. I just wanted to try another service and thought it was a fair compromise. I still wanted to give them my business. Unfortunately they were not able to work with me so I got a refund from living social instead.

I went to use the living social deal for a braz wax, and i came away so disappointed. I would give the place 4 stars for overall spa environment (though the room was warm and muggy) but I don’t think the lady who did the job should be waxing (1 star). Awful experience overall, it hurt more than usual, the wax was too hot, used mainly strips instead of hard wax, took twice as long as other locations, etc. Though the spa atmosphere might be worth coming back for other services, I can say that I never want to give them more business if they are willing to do such a horrible job for this service. The quality of service shouldn’t differ just because I bought it on a deal and that’s what it seemed like I got, a cheap service because I paid a cheap price.

Ok, so I’ve only been here for a bikini wax, but it was fantastic. Oksana did a fantastic job. By far the best wax I’ve ever had.
The environment is relaxing. The staff is very professional. I’m not sure what other people are talking about with renovations. Perhaps they’ve finished those.

Over the past year the spa has changed ownership and unfortunately, it totally shows. This winter when I went on two seperate occasions, the heater was broken so they had space heaters in the rooms. This is supposed to be a River Oaks quality spa? Then my favorite waxer Elena left, so now I have just completely quit going there altogether.

My husband and I enjoyed a couples massage here and I was so grateful when I was given a gift certificate to Bergamos weeks later that I booked a facial, but when I went there, I couldn’t use the steam room or sauna because they were under construction! Even in the relaxation room, I could hear the jackhammer.
Advice to visitors: inquire about renovation work at the spa before booking an appointment.

I’m giving two stars because they took the booking on short notice and the spa itself is fairly nice with quiet, comfortable facilities, a nice locker room and a wet and dry sauna.
However, I waited 45 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. When I was finally seen the therapist was so hurried that it made for a completely un-​relaxing experience. Everything about the procedure was rushed, she even turned around for me to flip over and readjust the towels instead of stepping out of the room! I would never consider myself a prude, but seriously? I’ve never experienced that at a spa before. The scrub was done in such a rush it was actually painful. It was as though she figured she could just press harder to save time. At the end she gave me my body cream in a plastic to-​go container instead of putting it on. I don’t know if this is standard procedure there, but I found it odd. She said it was so I could go back in the sauna, but seeing as how I spent the initial 45 minutes of my appointment waiting in the sauna… no thanks. To finish it off, the whole procedure took just under 20 minutes and that’s from me entering the room to me drying off and exiting the room, whereas I was under the impression it would typically take 30. She was nice, just really rushed, so perhaps they were short staffed.
The front desk took 10% off my bill when I responded to their question of how I liked my service. Although, considering I got only two thirds of my service and waited and extra 45 minutes for it, the 10% comp. wasn’t enough to save face in my opinion.
I’ll be going back to the Trellis at the Houstonian next time.

I’m only giving it 4 stars because my husband had an excellent experience.
My husband had booked us a couples retreat, which includes a message and facial for our 12 year anniversary. The location is great and the place is nice and clean. I must note, make sure you come in on time or else they will cut your message time in half.
So we checked in and the receptionist escorted us to the changing rooms. When I got done changing, I waited in the waiting area for about 10 minutes before the masseuse came and got us. The whole time I was wondering why my husband was not out at the waiting room with me, to my surprise he was still waiting for his robe and slippers. So that also took away from our message time.
The couple’s room is nice and clean. My masseuse was ok. Let’s just say I was hurting the next day. She tripped over a couple things and made the quite experience not so quite. My husband’s masseuse was tentative to him and took her time. The facial to me was ok. It was my husband’s first time getting a facial and after his experience, he’s addicted. My facial lasted only 45 minutes so I had to sit there and waited for my husband to be done which was about 20 minutes later.
All in all the place is nice and clean. People are nice. I guess it depends on who you get, your experience may vary.

I got to Bergamos to get my eyebrows shaped. Oksana is terrific! For the first time ever I actually have a shape that I’m getting compliments on.

Ouch!!! my back hurts. well what can I say. I live next door to The spa and it is convenient for me to go to this location with out the hazel of driving and trying to find parking at another location. This is my second time here and of course I did not know of Unilocal. Know all Unilocal needs to know. This place looks nice. The provide you a locker, flip flops, and a robe. I have used the Sauna and the Steam room but you feel claustrophobic in the small rooms. The waiting area are well accommodated with individual seating arrangements and reading material. The only reason they get a three star is because of the massage, It was an average between the price, the location, and the massage. The massage I will give it a four star. Tori my masseuse had excellent hands. Throughout the massage she explains if she notices a tense muscle and what could be affecting. I had 80 minutes of a deep tissue massage. It was intense but after wards I felt like all my muscles were floating. I will try other locations near me and I will have to compare. I will definitely come back but I can not expect greatness from an OK place.

Nice atmosphere. Cozy lounge and rooms for waiting for massages. I received a massage gift card for Mother’s Day and I added a nails package so I could relax for a few hours. I was a little uncomfortable with the lounge/​dressing rooms. Some women were waiting on the couches reading magazines and the lockers were against one wall to change. So pretty much you get to undress in front of everybody. I was in athletics in high school so I’m no prude, but then everyone is changing, not just one person! Anyways, the massage was great. And my nails were awesome!

I’m from San Francisco and am lucky that Unilocal is highly represented there. Houston Unilocalers are in short supply so I didn’t have my usual method of finding a good spa place when booking a nice spa session for my friend who is getting married next weekend.
So we kind of blindingly went to Bergamos. We all booked 50 minute deep tissue massages.
First the good/​okay: the spa is located in a nice shopping district and it has the nicer amenities like robes, locker rooms and a waiting area.
The not so good/​bad: We were told we can sit in the sauna or steam room before our services but we ended up only in the sauna as the steam room was tiny and smelled of stinky gym socks. Plus, both rooms were co-​ed which was a surprise.
What was most unsatisfying about the experience was that our 50 minute massage was actually more like 35 minutes. At $ 90 for the massage session, we basically only got $ 60 worth. The reason we were given was that the clock started as soon as they came to call us from the waiting area. We didn’t know that of course so we wasted precious minutes going to the bathroom first and then getting the up-​sell on aromatherapy and other add-​ins. I found it highly annoying that aromatherapy oils were another $ 10. All of the other spa places I’ve been to (including really fancy spas at the St. Regis and strip-​mall day spas) has fragrant massage oils built in. As for the massage it self, it was fine, but nothing spectacular. The effects definitely wore off in a couple of hours.
It’s disappointing that the spa cheated us on the time on the massage, especially when they goofed up twice: 1) they were 10 minutes late for our 3:30pm appointment and 2) they booked us as a couples massage in the same room (my friend and I are just that, friends).
Needless to say, the next time I’m in Houston, I would choose another spa. Hopefully by that time, there will be more Unilocal reviews to help me choose a spot!
