The Periwinkle Foundation develops and provides programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults and families who are challenged by cancer and other life threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children’s Hospital.

History

Established in 1983.

Founded in 1983 by Dr. Paul Gerson, The Periwinkle Foundation started with the concept of providing children in the Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center (TCH) with the opportunity to «just have fun» for one week at Camp Periwinkle. Upon seeing how a week of recreational activities really made a difference in the lives of children suffering with cancer and other life-​threatening illnesses, the organization’s Board and volunteers began exploring other ways in which they could contribute to the emotional healing of patients and their families.

Today, The Periwinkle Foundation offers a range of programming that responds to the needs of children and their families at every stage of the patient’s illness from initial diagnosis to treatment to recovery and beyond.
