Dr. Richard E. Gervais was raised in El Paso, Texas and moved to Houston in 1975 to attend dental school at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. Awarded a very competitive scholarship, Dr. Gervais entered the United States Navy Dental Corps upon his graduation in 1978. He returned to Houston in 1981 to initiate his private practice in dentistry. Since then, he has attended the L.D. Pankey Institute, an elective, advanced-​learning institute, taking courses to ensure his knowledge and skills are constantly expanding. His practice remains one of the most technically advanced restorative practices in Houston.

I’m bummed to see some of these negative reviews of the CDGH. I also went to this dental office after purchasing a Groupon for x-​rays/​teeth cleaning and had a very pleasant experience. I just came back from my second appointment/​teeth cleaning and again had great experience. Every single person in that office is extremely nice. I am lucky that I have healthy teeth and so far I haven’t been surprised by any expensive procedures at this dentist; however, I always go to any dentist expecting it to be expensive (wish the health care system would change this but that is another topic entirely). And as an unrelated side note: Dr. Gervais has an amazing art collection — the office is like an art gallery.

I found Dr. Robbins through Groupon. I hadn’t been to a dentist yet in Houston as I was still going to my dentist back home in Pittsburgh and I was super-​impressed with the latest technology at this office! From the receptionist to the X-​ray tech to the dentist to the billing coordinator, they were sweet, helpful and thorough. I got an awesome value and enjoyed the visit. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist in the Greenway plaza area!

Very clean and modern dental office but they are super expensive and I have never had a cleaning like she has done before and I didn’t like it. I ended up getting my periodental scaling done there and it came out to be $ 1,000 after it was all said and done and yes I do have insurance and used it and that was just out of pocket money. Not worth it but they are super fast. In and out in less than an hour.

I booked an appointment with CDG because I had purchased a Groupon and thought that would be a great way to find a new dentist. I had book my appointment one month in advance so I can schedule around. I had to reschdule my appointment twice due to unforseen issues at work and the second time around I had missed the reschedule deadline outlined in the Groupon fine print, by a few minutes but I was able to reschedule without issue.
I get to my appointment and filled out all my paperwork and was taken to the consultation room to discuss my visit. I explained to Lesley (I think that was her name) that I needed to find a general dentist. I never ever once disclosed that I have worked in the general/​cosmetic dentistry for two years and now I’m at speciality office. I already knew all the issues with my teeth and I wanted to make sure that was getting the work I truly needed versus a padded treatment plan.
I was very pleased with Dr. Robbins and her staff. She did a great job with my cleaning and explained to me about my wisdom tooth, and two cavities. She said on one a lot of dentist will tell you let’s just watch this tooth and see what happens and most of the time you are watching a cavity get bigger. I knew that she wasn’t blowing smoke up my butt because I had an exam from a friend who’s a cosmetic dentist while I was on vaca in Cali. But was unable to take care of it then due to scheduling. So I went there knowing the lingo, the prodcedures, pricing, and my existing conditions and left with a treatment plan outlining only what I truely needed at a price that was affordable. Knowing what I know in dentistry, if I would have been approached with some crazy procedures and was told I had to do this, I would have stopped her in her tracks and never return. After I had my cleaning, I booked my appointment for my fillings and a six month cleaning and wisdom extraction.
During my filling visit, I finally revealed that I was also in the dental field. And I’m glad I waited to do so because I can clearly see that Dr. Robbins truely cares about her patients and does a great job of explaining everything so that patients without the dental background can easily understand. Everyone was so great from front office Audrey, Lesley, Van, to assistants Micki and Armando and of course Dr. Robbins. I’ve found my general dentist! I’ve already completed all my treatment plan and couldn’t be happier!

I’ve been to many dentist offices in my lifetime but I found this one to be the most accommodating and helpful. There was no wait time and the staff was very friendly.

I had a similar Groupon experience as Eileen T. Last time I get a dental check-​up with a coupon!
I made an appointment with Dr. Robbins with my Groupon, and she was very nice and professional — the staff was as well. However, during my check-​up, she recommended:
— a night guard for grinding;
— a «preventative» filling;
— a $ 1,250 procelain inlay to replace an old amalgam filling; and
— a follow-​up checkup to «keep an eye on» a small, light discoloration on my gums
However, I got a second opinion and learned:
— the areas she attributed to grinding are actually where I can’t even force my top and bottom teeth to touch
— the «preventative filling» tooth was «hard as a rock» and «just fine»
— a non-​porcelain filling would be more than sufficient to replace the older filling, and only costs $ 250
— the discoloration is just a normal, light, benign, «freckle-​like» discoloration that requires no follow-​up at this time
I do not know if I was intentionally being worked over at CDG, but I do know that almost all of the recommended work was deemed completely unnecessary by another very competent dentist (Dr. George Gayle at Gayle Family Dental — highly recommend!). I also felt like when I politely resisted/​questioned their explanation for the recommended work, it really put them off.

I went here after they were advertised on Groupon. Does that typically mean their business isn’t doing well? If so, I can see why.
I went in for a dental examination for the first time a several years. At first, I thought they were very thorough… and they told me I needed a root canal. Their prices are extremely steep, and when I talked to the front desk about other options, they were extremely hesitant to give me information. I found another dentist and requested x-​rays from the Comprehensive Dental Group, and they sent x-​rays that made it nearly impossible for the new dentist (who was great, btw) to discern anything about the tooth. The pictures they sent didn’t even show the roots! So the new dentist had to take his own x-​rays. Afterward, he said that I may not need a root canal, and gave me pricings for if I did need it at a later time. They were more affordable by a THOUSAND dollars. Additionally, he found some more problems with my teeth that CDC either missed or purposely did not point out so that they could possibly escalate into more expensive issues.
Anyways, I’m NEVER coming back here again. They are too blatantly concerned about charging than providing good dental service. I’m directing all patients to «Contemporary Dental» instead, for whom I will also write a review.

I am mixed on this one between a 3 and 4 star. I went on a Groupon certificate. I was treated with respect and liked everyone in the upscale office. Their regular prices seemed reasonable. They did a procedure that I had not had done before to clean my teeth and I had some problems afterwards with very sore gums and a cracked lip for a few days. I called and left a message to cancel my next appointment because I was having trouble but I never heard from them. I still think though if I hadn’t of had problems, that I would have made them my dentist, although I am not sure you ever see the older dentist fellow on the website. My dentist was very young and very nice though. It was a very pleasant experience at the office. I liked the hygienist too but when I used to leave my dentist, my bottom teeth were so clean that my tongue would catch on the back of two close teeth because they are sharp. This did not happen after this cleaning but they felt clean.

I have never been to a more comforting dentist in my life. Since I am used to chinese dentist offices that offer an atmosphere as inviting as the bowels of hell, this office was welcomed with open arms. Being able to watch Seinfeld while the dentist worked on my teeth was just awesome. Its amazing how much less you dread the dentist when you can watch one of the best sitcoms of all time.
Very informative, and inviting, this is surely my dentist from now on.

This is a wonderful office with a friendly and experienced staff. My experience here has been outstanding. Whether discussing routine check-​ups or special needs, Dr Gervais always offers the alternatives with explanations I can understand. I have and will continue to recommend him to my friends and co-​workers.
