History
Established in 1987.
The Art House was founded by Viruchy Delgado-Giambi in 1987. Initially located in West Houston at Shadowbriar, it was relocated to the Rice Village in 1990 and registered under the name The Village Art House. In 1993 with the reconstruction and renovation of the new shopping Mall, the school relocated to 3501 W. holcombe Blvd. where it remained for 13 years. In 2004 demolition of the building forced the school to relocate, this time the Museum District seemed the right choice. It also adopted the present name, The Art House.
The Art House is the only private art school in Houston offering classical art training from age 5. Our record of acceptance to HSPVA has remained impeccable for 20 years, and the Portfolio Training Program is successfully placing our students in the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation including RISD, Parsons, The Art Institute of Chicago, San Francisco Art Institute, SCAD and numerous other school in Texas and other states.
Meet the Business Owner
Viruchy Delgado-Giambi D.
Business Owner
«Ms Viruchy» came to the U.S. from Cuba with her family during the early years after the Castro Revolution. She demonstrated art talent since very early age, learning piano, voice and painting at the Apostolado School in her native country. In the US she continued her art training through High school and college majoring in Art, Languages and Psychology at Sacred Heart College and later at The University of Houston.
In 1978 after receiving her degrees in Art and Psychology, she was hired as Youth Counselor for the CETA program where she counseled teens with social, medical or psychological problems.
In 1986 a rebirth of artistic influences and personal interest brought her back to art. She developed a method of instruction with very detailed steps in technical training and she began testing the system with small groups.
By 1990 her success lead to a bigger idea, founding a school that would offer classical art training and real art education. The Art House was born.
