The Abbey

This place is fine. Facilities really good, my Grandma was in the Kensington which is the «memory unit» because she kept trying to run away. They have lots of activities for the community and the employees are friendly. I am just still upset because my Grandma passed away there at 2am, by 3am the funeral home came to take her body and by the time we went back at 9am to start cleaning out her room, employees had already stolen everything there was to steal from her room. Very important porcelain figurines and a couple frames. The manager claims she saw no one steal it in videos but why would we lie about such a thing? They never even tried to make up for it. No apology and lots of un-​returned phone calls. Someone stole from our dead grandma and they could have tried a lot harder to care about it. Also I found ants crawling in my Grandma’s bed one time and an old dirty diaper down the side of her bed. I shouldn’t have been the one to discover that! The ladies that work there did come to give us hugs when they found out of my grandma’s passing. But I would say don’t 100% trust these people and never keep anything of any value in their room. We made sure we had all jewelry and precious items out but thought the porcelain Lladro figures would have been ok. I guess not! But we toured lots of places in Houston and this was one of the best, so I guess you never know!

My Nana moved in here about 4 months ago and let me tell you, it is absolutely beautiful. There is an independent living facility (that’s where she is) and there is an assisted living facility. I’m more familiar with the independent side, and this building is brand new. There are 1,2, and 3 bedroom apartments. The accommodations are wonderful and most of all, most importantly, the staff. They are beyond incredible!
Barbara is kind, sweet and patient. Every staff member I’ve been in contact with is friendly and supportive and so patient. They always stop to chat with my family and update us on my how my Grandma is doing. The residents all seem very happy and my nana talks to all of them whenever I’ve eaten with her there in the dining room (she loves to talk but the other residents don’t seem to mind). I highly recommend this place if someone in your family is looking for an assisted living community in Houston. It’s also close to Westminister but not too close that it’s an inconvenience. I know my nana can make it to the pharmacy and doctor without going on too many busy roads.
