Only complain: I ordered a bbq pork and a bbq beef sandwich over there and they tasted both like bbq pork so I thought she might have heard me wrong. So for my to go order I emphasized on the fact that I wanted 2 bbq beef and 2 bbq pork to go. She even have it on writing on the outside of the to go sandwich wrapper but when I opened it the next day… all four of the sandwich tasted and looked like bbq pork.

The combo sandwich is excellent. I like this sandwich than those from Don’s sandwich. I will try bun rieu next time.

Food: Order two banh mi’s and a sugar cane juice. The bread was fantastic! Soft and crunchy at the same time, definitely freshly baked. The fillings though…: wimpy. So little meat and vegetables. Not impressed overall. Sugar cane juice is definitely fresh too, and much cheaper than B10 next door. $ 3.00 compared to $ 6.00. Service: Pretty fast. Seems like a family-owned store. Order at the front(cash only!) with water and tea coolers on the side of the counter. Ambiance: Very… unimpressive. They do seem to get a lot of customers, a variety of customers too. Older Vietnamese ladies gossiping over phở, Vietnamese families with little kids, and single guys coming in to grab a sandwich to go. But small place and a bit run-down looking… Definitely some flies buzzing in the air…

Ammmazing!!! And so cheap! Order a BBQ sandwich with a side of phở broth to dip it in, and be prepared for a little slice of heaven! YUMYUMYUM. Best Bahn Mi I’ve ever had! The women that work there are also incredibly sweet! I’ll be coming back next time I’m in town, for sure!

First place on Unilocal that we visited on our quest of bun rieu. It was pretty good, except a little bit more on the saltier side, but awesome service!

Had my first Vietnamese sandwich ever here and it was alright. I didn’t think it was suppose to be so chewy and it wasn’t very flavorful either.

One of the best Vietnamese sandwiches I have ever eaten. The owner is super nice and sweet. She was grinning from ear to ear and made all 8 of our sandwiches really quickly! The bread is not hard at all, unlike how other places are. She gave us a good amount of veggies and the sandwich was perfect! Definitely going back!

I’ve never tried the sand which but it must be good because lots of customers come for it. I come here for the Mi Quang and sugar cane juice, it’s so good that I haven’t tried other dishes until today when they informed me they’re all out at 11:38 am. Great, little disappointed but I get to try other dishes. I got the Bun Rieu today and it was good! The soup could be a little stronger taste but made just the way I like it. I still have yet to try the Bun Bo Hue. It’s difficult choice when all the noodle soup bowls are good.

After hearing so many raves about this place, I decided to try it out. However, I couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed. Yea it’s about $ 2.50−3.50 per sandwich, and the 5 + 1 free is a sweet deal. However, I felt that the sandwiches had very little meat, cucumbers, and carrots. Having eaten vietnamese sandwiches from both new york city and LA, the sandwiches served here fell a little short. I missed the fresh crunch one normally gets from the vast amount of cucumbers and carrots one would normally find in these sandwiches. But for the price, you can’t complain.

I used to come here all the time when I lived in sw houston. It’s was pretty decent back when I remembered it. One day decided I wanted a BBQ sandwich, first thing came to my mind was dons café. Called dons sandwich, they didn’t pick up. Walked right in don’s around 11:00am. Got into line, they are sooooo freaking busy, see order after order after order. There are about 6 – 8 people ahead of me not including phone in orders. Saw they had piles and piles of sandwiches already. Decided not to wait 20−30mins for a sandwich so I can to Thanh Noi instead. First off, this lil hole-in-the wall banh mi is so much more smaller and laid back compared to the other banh mi biz. They seem to be family-owned and really appreciated the business. I ordered two sandwiches, one BBQ pork and one chicken. Both came out pretty good, the BBQ was lil skimpy on meat but still good. The chicken was done right very good though. Also the sugarcane drink was delicious! They have buy 5 get one free deal! At 3 bucks a piece, so 6 for $ 15.00 not bad at all, cash only. Small biz struggling to make a living, give them a try, what’s stopping you!

Little restaurant with a big 5 stars rating??? Yes it’s true, it’s the Quintessential of Dee-Lish foods, cleanliness, quality ingredients, $$, and courteous, friendly services. A humble little restaurant but don’t be fooled, they have an expansive menu to satisfy all your cravings. Best kept secret in the Bellaire areas!!! I’ve noticed that they seem to have a lot of non-Asian devotee clientele who actually calls out menu items by their Vietnamese names. You know these people are regulars because they don’t try to pay with plastics. I don’t mind that they only take cash, this is how they keep the prices low. Wife had an awesome Bun Bo Hue(Spicy, Beef Stew soup w/noodles and herbs) and I had the hot and tasty Beef Phở Soup. Ordered a large container of freshly crushed, icy sugar cane juice to wash it all down. Out of this world thirst quencher on a hot day. Two thumbs up! We also bought 6 sandwiches, spring rolls, fried bananas, assortment of finger foods and deserts to go. Ok, so we went a little crazy over this little place. PS — The bathroom was clean.

This is got to be one of the cleanest Banh Mi place in the area. On the outside it seem it has been here for a long time. But when you walk in you can tell the decorations is dated, but they kept it very nice and clean. No dust in sight. Everything is organized. I ordered the Bun Rieu and was please with it. Not the best in town, but it is the best in the bellaire area. The air is cold inside while it is 100*+ outside. The Banh mi was good too. Definitely be back. You get more bang for your $ here and the atmosphere is comfortable.

Thanh Noi is a hole-in-the-wall shop that has soup bowls, rice plates and sides. There is a bit of a language barrier here, but they have plenty of pictures and you can point or say the number when you order. The banh mi sandwiches here are fantastic. I’ve sampled many banh mi in Houston, but so far Thanh Noi is the best(this includes visits to Cali Sandwich, Les Givrals, and Don Café). The baguette is the right amount of crunch without messing with the roof of your mouth yet chewy on the inside. My favorite sandwich is the«special combination» which has the jalapeño, cucumber, pickled carrots, sliced meats, pâté, mayo, etc. Sometimes at other places, you’ll have banh mi that has the good stuff in the middle, but the ends are lacking the filling and spread. Here at Thanh Noi, they definitely cover the baguette from head to toe so you won’t miss any flavor! They offer a buy 5, get 1 free deal which is already a steal since the sandwiches are priced at $ 3 a piece. If you’re on the go they are pretty quick — I’ve popped in at times for a to-go banh mi order and walked out in less than 5 minutes with my tasty toasted sandwich. I’ve also had the bun rieu which is a tomato soup with crabcake, tofu cubes and noodles. They give you a side plate of bean sprouts and cilantro to add to your soup. Although I’ve only tried bun rieu at 2 Houston spots, I am confident saying that this is near the top of the list because it was comparable to my all-time favorite bowl at a location that is no longer around. Usually bun rieu ends up being a pricier entrée at other restaurants, but here it was about $ 7. Great deal for a delicious bowl! I’m so happy to have found this place and will continue to visit!

It seems as though the food has declined here since my last three visits. I always come in to order their Combination Vietnamese Sandwich, which they are known for. They always give the right amount of meat and veggies in their sandwich. However, my cucumber had a very bitter taste to it and with everything else, it made the meal very unsatisfactory. I had bad a massive tummy attack two hours later after this sandwich. On everyone of my visits, my bread was always cold. The owner use to make it, where it came out of the toaster, hot and crispy, just the way I like it. Today, it had its regular hard shell and chewy dough on the inside. The thing that irks me the most about coming here, is the way the owner always tries to upgrade our meals, like we’re dining at McDonald’s. No I do not want soy rice or fried bananas with my meal. No I do not want the sugar cane drink. No I do not want to buy 5 sandwiches and get one free when it’s just me dining here. It is ridiculous! And of course, why would you bother to ask if I wanted to take additional soups and bread home for others. No one wants to be bothered with all that nonsense. If people were interested in adding additional sides, of course they would request it, but to shove it down people’s throat all the time is ludicrous! No thanks to the cold and chewy sandwich, the add-on sales and food poisoning. I think I will go elsewhere.

Great deal on the best tasting Vietnamese sandwiches in town. Their pâté is meaty and not mayonnaise filled, the bread is crisp on the outside but not a baked to a croûton on each end like some places. Their spring/summer rolls are pretty good also. They also have good sweets in the cabinets(I like the sweet rice with bean in a cup).*** I really would stay away from all the fried rice and Chinese style things and I think their egg rolls are just average. Order right and you will be very happy here. This place is a hole in the wall kind of joint. There were only maybe 2 times over many years that I thought the bread was not up to par but typically its the best. Barring those few time I would say 5 stars for the sandwiches.

I dunno whats up with that plaza on Bellaire but there are 3 Vietnamese sandwich shops there competing with each other. But they all seem to have their own specialty that attracts their own customer base. This place is the smallest of the 3 competing joints. Feels a bit cramped inside there. I’ve only ever gotten their banh mi dac biet(special combination) and their banh mi thit nuong(grilled pork sandwich). I’d stick with the grilled pork, the dac biet is serviceable but their grilled pork is the bomb. Thanh Noi has better and softer bread that won’t bust up your mouth(unlike Don café across the way). The pork is well seasoned and is super tasty if a bit greasy. They got a buy 5 get 1 free deal going on so if you need to feed some hungry friends this is a good spot to go and get everybody covered. I don’t think it matters how many you buy but they’ll try to push you to get that deal, I was buying 2 sandwiches one time and the vietnamese lady was like why don’t you get 3 more? And we give you one more! This place is in a very Asian area so it shouldn’t come as a surprise but this place is CASHONLY. So don’t be strolling in waving your plastic, better have some greenbacks ready.
