This salon in Montrose is seriously fantastic. I have had my hair done by Jana and Lisa and they are both great. Lately Lisa has been doing my highlights and she does an excellent job. Thairapy is really tranquil and uses quality products. Parking is excellent.

I’ve been going to Alejandra at Thairapy for a while now after a recommendation and I am absolutely thrilled to have found her! I have very thin, flat hair and Alejandra has listened to my wishes and added life to it. I always look forward to my next hair cut because I walk out of the salon feeling great and confident about my hair every single time. Her haircuts have truly changed my life as I’ve had an incredibly difficult time finding a stylist that truly understands my hair. Alejandra has been a rare gem for me and my hair as I had given up hope of having hair that was naturally voluminous until I met her. She knows how to make my hair do things I never thought were possible with my texture. I couldn’t be happier with her services and she’s also incredibly sweet!
I’ve also had my eyebrows waxed here once and although I don’t remember the technician’s name, she did an absolutely wonderful job. I plan on making her my regular eyebrow technician now because the result was exactly what I had in mind.
Overall, this salon is absolutely wonderful. The ambiance is great. They have nice artwork up on the walls, they play good music, and everyone is really friendly and attentive! The front desk receptionist is really welcoming and nice and from there, the experience only gets better and better. I am grateful for the recommendation to come to this salon because they truly provide an overall great experience. Highly recommend!

I strongly recommend Jana. It took me a long time to find a stylist I like in Houston who understands and doesn’t butcher curly hair. Jana is also very patient. I was going to a special event out of town and Jana took the extra time at the end of my appointment to teach me how to style my hair for the event.

I have been going to my hair stylist Lisa at Thairapy for 2 ½ years and have never been disappointed. When I moved to Houston, I was cautiously trying to find a good stylist. As a blonde, it is important to find one that knows color well. I found Lisa based on Unilocal reviews and decided to try it out. As soon as I saw her and her own blonde hair, I knew I was in the right place and have been going back ever since.
Lisa is amazing with my blonde hair and a great and understanding stylist. She listens and talks me through what we are doing. She has been good in taking are of my long blonde hair, making sure the color is good and trimming it. I never get drastic layers as it doesn’t look on my hair, but a nice even trim. She is also great as a person, love her personality and we always have a good time when I come in.
In addition, the staff is excellent. Angel at the front desk is the best, he is so pleasant and welcoming. They give you a choice of beverage, including mimosas, which is nice. The salon is clean and relaxing and I enjoy going there. Parking is also easy as they have a lot in the back and space upfront, never had an issue. And I think the prices are reasonable for the area.
Overall, I am grateful to have found a great salon to go to and an awesome hair stylist in Lisa.

If you are looking for someone that has years of experience with regards to hair extensions, look no further. Margaret Maxie does an excellent job and is a true professional. She would provide you ideas, but is also a good listener and take time to understand what you are envisioning. The cut & highlights that she does are amazing too. I have done hair extensions at numerous high end salons in Houston, and Margaret is my número uno!

This was my first visit and experience to Thairapy and I wanted to just try out a new salon for the summer. I’ve only been to one other salon in Houston (Azur) and never had any concerns with the stylists. My past hair salon experiences have all been good, and I guess fortunate to have an experienced stylist take a look at my hair and know how to cut and style. I know it turns out to be a good haircut even after 3 – 4 weeks when the cut is grown out a bit but still styles well. This wasn’t the case with my haircut and style at Thairapy.
Even after less than a week with my haircut, the layers in front are barely seen and Lisa, the hairstylist, cut more length off my hair then I had asked even though she said «she wasn’t one of those stylist who is scissor happy.» She also talked a LOT about how I should buy products from hair salons rather than retail stores such as a Kroger or non-​salon places because the products are usually watered down and not as potent as products bought at a salon. While I find it to be somewhat true what she said, I didn’t appreciate a sales pitch that made me feel uncomfortable for buying products ‘outside’ a salon. This was my first visit to this salon and wanted to just get a nice haircut first. Then we can discuss products later. Pretty much every product I told her I was presently using (Paul Mitchell, Biotin) I should not have been using.
There were also a few things I noticed from Lisa that I had never seen an experienced stylist do such as while drying my hair, she turned me around to where I wasn’t facing the mirror anymore. So the entire time while she was styling my hair, I never saw it until the very end when she turned me towards the mirror. I wasn’t impressed with the style because my hair was still frizzy in places and not smooth and I did notice the length of my hair but sometimes with so much frizz, my hair shortens. The next day I flat ironed it and definitely noticed a length difference and was very disappointed. Lisa also never looked closely at the front on both sides and measured with her hands if both sides in the front were even. When I got home, I noticed a length difference on both sides that should not have occurred from an experienced stylist. I paid good money to have a great haircut and unfortunately I was very disappointed in the sloppiness of the stylist.
I did address my concerns with Rachel, the owner, who at first was attentive and listened to everything on the phone with me. We spoke again on the phone after she met with Lisa to address the issue and the one thing Rachel mentioned to me was that Lisa told her ‘I visited FIVE different salons and didn’t like any of them.’ Which was a blatant lie. To which I asked Rachel what other lies did Lisa tell her and Rachel responded, ‘I can only go by what she tells me.’ I was very upset and of course, got defensive because this stylist was saying lies to cover herself. I never ONCE said anything negative about any other salon but I’ve only visited ONE salon in Houston that I never complained about. Thairapy really needs to get their act together. I never lied once about what Lisa did or said but unfortunately her actions definitely speak louder than her words. Rachel rescheduled me with another stylist to fix what Lisa did but it’s unfortunate I have to go through this at an upscale salon. This has never happened to me. I hope my ‘redo’ with a different stylist goes a whole lot better than with Lisa.

Parking is never an issue, when coming here. I get lucky getting the few spots right at front, but there is also parking in the back. Getting to this location is also easy not confusing as most times some salons are hidden in corners of all areas.
My stylist, Jana nguyen, whom is a very pretty and pleasant person to deal with, is beyond one of the best colorist/​stylist I know. She tends to my needs and wants, but also tells me nicely if I shouldn’t do it a certain way to keep my hair healthy. The outcome is never without a doubt, excelling my expectations.
My color I like to go for is from various color selections; partial to full highlights in light to dark blonde, brunette (for fall season), and/​or ombré. Yes! Jana does it all! You definitely do not have to worry about her messing up your hair from changing around your options, which has happened to me before from other salons I have tried in the past.
Price is reasonable and fair. Not outrageous like most salons in that particular area.
To top it off!!! Complimentary mimosas?! Yes, yes, yes please!

Background: I have been here before and was satisfied with their services. Have been to a stylist who is no longer there and also Jana for cut & color previously. So I’m not a first time customer.
Recently: Three visits and over $ 200 and I didn’t get what I wanted. After the third visit I walked out a brunette — same as I was when I walked in on the first visit. All within one week. I had asked for a very gradual ombré and got harsh bleach lines w/​ORANGE hair. I was extremely upset and asked to speak to the manager (owner) several times and Rachel never came over — not once in the THREE visits. I think that’s plenty of time to go see what’s going on with a customer who was unhappy on all three visits!!! Not one call, nothing. She even said that my hair was really bad. How can you say that and not go over to speak to the client??? It looked like it did when I decided to experiment in high school with $ 15 bleach products from Sally’s.
In the end I was finally given complimentary services on the third visit to fix the first two visits. Through it all Lisa gave explanations to the color issues at the END of the appointments. As a veteran stylist she should’ve known the possible issues at the beginning instead of saying she could do it when she clearly couldn’t. She could’ve saved me money and a bad review.
I can still see some spots peeking through in my hair from the bleach even when I asked to go as dark as necessary to cover it up. She also didn’t even get the length of my bangs right nor the cut. At another stylist at a different salon, the stylist mentioned how choppy and uneven my hair was and asked if I had cut my own hair! Horrible.

I went here this week and was thoroughly surprised and 100% satisfied and happy with the color/​balyage Jana Nguyen did on my hair! She is awesome and a true professional who I trust now implicitly with my hard to manage and very difficult hair! It has been nearly impossible for me to find someone who understands what I need and want with my hair, and I’m so grateful to Jana for what’s she does for me! Finally found my permanent stylist in Houston after a very long search! The salon is beautiful, everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly. The guy and the girl at the front desk are total sweethearts. If you’re looking for a new salon or stylist, check them out. You will not be disapppinted!

Great service, atmosphere and hair cut!

When I say AMAZING, I mean AMAAAAZING! I have been looking for Jana for over a year. I had first had my hair done by her because of a groupon and she did a great job. I then tried other places closer to me because of convenience and I will never make that mistake again! Jana ended up leaving that other salon and came to Thairapy. It’s a great salon with nice ambience; everyone is so nice unlike those other hoity toity places. Lol! Anyways, now that I found her again no one else can ever do my hair!

Best place I’ve ever been. My hair is naturally dark brown but I’ve been getting blonde highlights for years. We all know blonde is very high maintenance when it’s not your naturally color and it’s very easy to mess up which has happened to me a lot! But a friend referred me to this place when I first moved to Houston and now I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else! Lisa is phenomenal with my hair and makes all the highlights blend and look completely natural. The prices are more than fair especially since my hair is super long and thick. I know when I go see Lisa I have nothing to worry about!

I should have written this review a long time ago. this is an awesome salon.
I see two Lisa’s, both are amazing at what they do. I have been getting my hair colored and cut by Lisa Murphy for about a year now. She always takes plenty of time discussing what I want to do and offers her professional and personal (if I want) opinion. I love that she does everything, color, cut, and blow dry making more personal and it’s easier to tip one person, your stylist.
Now for the other Lisa, she is the best! The best micro derm/​facial I’ve ever had (I’ve been to many all over the Midtown, River Oaks and Montrose areas). there is no comparison, her technique is very unique I feel like I’ve had a massage along with a facial when I leave. She also does the best eyebrow waxing (she worked previously at an eyebrow only salon). I will never have my brows waxed by anyone else. She has also done my mani/​pedis she seriously cares about my feet and my particular needs, whether my feet are just tired or I’m going out that weekend.
I have to mention Angel at the front desk, he is super sweet, he’s great about checking on me to ask if I want a mimosa or something to drink. He always manages to get me in for all my services on the same day.
I love this place. so glad I found it.

I just moved back to Houston after being away at college for 5 years and needed a new hair stylist. My friend recommended me here and I’m so glad she did! The salon is very relaxing and upscale. Also, my hair stylist, Alejandra was absolutely amazing! She did exactly what I wanted and gave me tips to style my own hair at home. I would highly recommend Alejandra!

I know this review is long over due but as I am getting ready to book my hair appointment, it reminded me that I needed to write this! First of all, I am a huge wimp when it comes to coloring my hair but, after hearing wonderful things about this place from a friend, I decided to take the leap and finally get highlights for the first time. I explained that I wanted something different but also professional and Jana did just that! She was so wonderful in listening to what I wanted and even helped me find pictures in magazines that captured the look she thought I was describing just to make sure there was no miscommunication. Since I was so happy with the hair color, I also decided to get a hair cut which was great! I received so many compliments and am looking forward to scheduling my next service with Thairapy!

This place is really first class. As far is the facility. It’s very a clean and calming. The staff are all friendly and very professional. There is a diverse clientele, the have Black Hair stylist for me and something/​one for everyone. They have a little nail shop and massage therapy space as well. They don’t double book clients so your time is respected, I have never been disappointed by my stylist Ms. Margaret Maxy. She is amazing.

Wonderful, warm, friendly staff. Making appointments is extremely easy and you are never waiting too long like most other places that try to jam in a lot of appointments at once. I recently moved to Houston and found thairapy under positive google reviews as well as being reasonably priced for the area. Nicole is amazing, and has taken great care of my hair (which has been through a lot the past years, and is recovering from years of using boxed dye) As someone who is trying to grow their hair out she offers great tips on keeping your locks healthy, cuts your hair in lengths that keep your hair healthy to continue growing, and still able to style while you take on the task of growing your locks out. Everyone here is extremely friendly, the salon is super clean, and pricing is super affordable for cut a color… especially in a big city like Houston.

I moved to Houston in 2012. Back in Michigan I had one hairdresser for 4 years and was worried if I will find one in Houston. I tried 2 different hairdressers before I saw Rachel. I heard about her from a friend. She is simply amazing! I have got hair cuts and colors done by her. She is patient and gives me undivided time which is what I like. She is never in a rush and very attentive to your needs. Even my husband goes to her ;)
The Salon is very warm and friendly too. I love these guys. They also have mani pedis and massages. I have also bought hair products from them which are very reasonably priced too! Check them out!

Let me start by saying I adore Maggie. She is a fantastic stylist, and I am so glad that I found her! She and the front desk staff (lovely and attentive) deserve five stars. They are that good, and I have every intention of continuing to use them.
The reason for the lacking two stars is the manicure/​pedicure staff. Now, the person who did my mani/​pedi was sweet as she can be. She is personable and seems to be a really nice person, but if you are used to having these services done by professionals, you are going to be in for quite a shock. I certainly was in for quite an experience, to say the least. First of all, the manicurist admitted she is not very good at polishing, and that she specializes more in facials. While I hope this is true, it was very disconcerting to hear as I was sitting in the chair. She doesn’t cut cuticles, which is strange, and she moves really slowly, so if you are in a hurry, you should book elsewhere.
Moreover, she cut my big toe on my right foot (claiming I must have had too sensitive of skin– something that has never occurred before in 16 years of getting pedicures), and she accidentally cut my ankle with the pumice stone. The latter became infected while I was on my honeymoon (these services were my pre-​wedding mani/​pedi), and I almost wound up at the UrgiCare in Tennessee because of how swollen my ankle had become. Not the way you want to spend your time, I can promise you.
Finally, I had not intended to share this review until the following occurred. You see, the shellac manicure I paid extra to receive, only last a day. I had the services done two days before my wedding, and I wound up at a salon in New Orleans the day of because six nails peeled off. I am not sure if this was due to faulty polish or the person doing it being inexperienced, but I was not happy to have to pay for two services.
Again, hair wise, use Maggie. She is to die for and fantastic. Also, the staff at the front desk are so nice and make you feel remarkably welcome. I just wish the «spa» portion was as good as the salon. Unfortunately, this was not my experience, and I will not be back to that portion of Thairapy.

Guess it’s time to break my dry phase of not writing reviews! But my hair is worth it! ;)
I enjoy this salon because of Jana. To be fair, she’s my sister’s best friend. But that doesn’t mean anything because I’ve tried quite a few salons to include the way overrated, overpriced, overhyped-​the Upper Hand.
PARKING– They have a few spots of street parking directly in front and across the street and a lot behind the salon. It’s never been a problem for me to get a front row spot since my appointments have always been right when they open at 10am.
You’ll be welcomed by a friendly front attendant– I forget her name but she’s very nice.
Thairapy offers you complimentary mimosas or water. Mimosas and getting your hair done?! Yes, please! I don’t care if it’s 10am on a Wednesday? Pour it up! ;)
Restrooms are really clean, dim & cozy. I had to change in there once and it was quite roomy enough to do so. They have hand towels for the eco-​friendly, hand/​cuticle cream after you wash your hands.
The only thing a little uncomfortable for me was the washing stations… they really hurt my neck and back… but that may be my disabled veteran status. but dang… I need some more cushion! :(
^updated 01÷31÷14: they have added cushions to the base of the neck in the bowl but still oddly uncomfortable. Tacky footstools.
Pricing– very reasonable and affordable! I honestly think I get the best deal here! I only color my hair. They use Keune color & have their products available for sale and the Enjoy brand. I think one time I went for one color it was $ 50 and a 2-​color was $ 65. That includes a blowout so you don’t walk out looking like a wet mop. Some places I’ve been to charge another $ 40 – 60 to blow dry your hair after service! Um no thanks!
So all in all, I’ll keep this salon as my main one until I find a reason not to. :)
I don’t see that happening though because what I want, Jana gives! Just be sure to express to her what you want. A relationship starts both ways ;)
