Great mom and pop spot. The tamales are great. Well worth the money. I went 3 times last week

The salsas are good but stay away from the Tamales. They are just horrible. They grind the meat into the masa, and you don’t know what you are eating. Dry, dry, dry… Did I say dry. DRY!!!

When I picked up the tamales, from company they were hot and prepackaged. I took a little sample and it was delicious, after opening the entire bag and eating a full tamale, they were hard and very dry. Even with the $ 1 off coupon, I will not be returning to purchase any more tamales from this company.

I don’t write reviews often but this place is awesome and authentic. You have to try it for yourself.

Hands down the best Tamales in Houston. Best I’ve ever had. They are hand made in the back so they are fresh and the owner Henry will let you try one before ordering. Also try his salsa’s and hot sauce. Very good!!!

I come here to get tamales every time I visit Houston. I’m Mexican and I was raised on homemade tamales and these are the real deal. The tamales are made and then frozen, so if you stop in to eat at the restaurant it does take a little while to get your food. Their salsa is amazing too! I usually get frozen tamales and take them home to Cali with me.

No No No! My husband and I tried it this morning and boy were we in for a rude awakening. We were the only people there and were seated by a nice waitress who appeared to be confused on what to do. Ordered drinks, water and diet coke, okay so far good. Ordered the 3 tamale plate (black bean, beef and cheese) and my husband ordered a breakfast plate which was egg and beans and rice. We read the article about the owner Henry making his famous salsa all laid out on table under some plastic tablecloth, well looks like that article was over 10 years old, was written back in 1995. So we thought the food was going to blow us away since his business had been operating for a while. We got our food and I could of swore I was in a farm and my name was Wilbur! My food looked like slop all covered in some brown gravy and my husband’s looked like plain eggs rolled around in tomato and peppers — DRY. We took a bite and we were done. My tamales were not homemade. I am from Mexico, I know what a tamale taste like that is made by hand. This was canned goods. BARF… we paid $ 16 for water and a diet coke. We should have eaten at Whataburger across the street, biscuits and gravy $ 2.15 yum…

Yep. Looks like an odd place to buy tamales but they are good. Real good. Pick them up to go and eat for dinner. I will be back.

Swung by to grab some food for my team at work and came in the side door had pleasantries with the nice lady in the kitchen-​since I hadn’t been there before I asked the types and she quickly ran down the list of tamales they had and I ordered up (spicky pork, beef and chicken-​there are some co-​workers who can’t do spice– but i would recommend only doing the spicy versions from here on out) HPD are regulars so I had a nice conversation (really have to work on my spanish though-​its rough being a bolleo in Houston)…so quick service– tamales were a hit… large and tasty, masa was great and they were not too dry or too gummy *(like some mass produced versions you get around town). Over all a good place to grab some tamales and they were enjoyed by all (only down side is no gravy… some people like the gravy and you need to buy the salsa– verde was good)

Good tamales and salsas

I was in the area and hungry and saw this place so I stopped by. Expecting a normal looking restaurant or a lunch counter or something but was not the case. Apparently from reading other reviews it’s mostly for take-​out. They do have an area of tables to the right of the entrance. Once you walk in it looks like foyer of many other restaurants. To the left is the kitchen which looks pretty large. There may or may not be someone in teh foyer but if not there’s a bell to ring for service.
Pretty large selection of tamales. I got 6 spicy pork tamales for $ 6. They were larger than most other tamales I’ve had before. They didn’t come with any salsa so I had to ask for some. I don’t remember the name of the salsa he gave me but it’s wasn’t very memorable anyway. The tamales were flavorful but not amazing. I felt like they were a bit on the dry side. I do like tamales and this is the only place I know of where I can grab some to go near the Heights so I’ll def be back and try other tamales and update this review.

Pretty ironic how my last two reviews were about my «so-​so» relationship with Hispanic food, and now, I’m here writing this because I love tamales. Oh man, do I love me some tamales. These tamales though? Not as much as I hoped.
An important thing to know is this establishment is *not* a restaurant; it’s all about wholesale. That’s right — Tejano Salsa & Tamales cranks out salsa and tamales like it’s nobody’s business, and then, they ship them out to grocery stores, food stands, and events. Lucky for you, you’re given the opportunity to get your hands on some while they’re piping hot and fresh! So, walking into this place, expect to grab a menu, order a ton of tamales from the register, and browse their vast selection of homemade salsas before taking the whole thing home. They DO have a particularly boring and bland side area with chairs and tables if you want to eat in-​house, but this place is more about take-​out and catering.
As for the food… holy guacamole, Tejano has a lot of tamales! From your basic chicken, pork, and beef to portobello, sun-​dried tomato, and spinach fillings; PLUS at $ 6/​half-​doz and $ 11/​doz, you can’t feel guilty about trying all you like. They’ve also got salsas, cheese dips, sauces, spices, margarita mixes… the list goes on and on and on. As impressive as their inventory is, I wasn’t as impressed with the goodies I brought home. The chicken and beef fillings were on the dry side, the tamales fell apart easily, and the salsa was watery and unmemorable. Still… with a wide variety of flavors and ridiculously-​cheap prices, you can’t deny it: Tejano Salsa & Tamales would definitely be a big party, big event, big gathering life saver.
By the way, this place also goes by the name «Henry’s Dream» — for obvious reasons. One dream come true for Henry. You go, Henry!

I am a big tamale fan, especially freshly made ones. I was driving down Post Oak and I noticed this place and I quickly did a U-​turn.
This is more like a factory set up but with an undecorated area for dining. I saw the menu and I was like OMG! That’s a lot of tamales, all with different stuffings. I quickly ordered all the tamales I never tried.
This is my experience…
The taste is there but I wish the portabella mushroom tamales had more mushroom. It was all shredded up and didn’t appear to be mushrooms.
Sun Dried tomato tamales had a lot of flavor but again it didn’t have enough of the tomatoes in it to make it fulfilling.
Spinach tamale had good flavor, again it didn’t seem to have enough fillings.
It is a hell of a deal for ordering the tamales to-​go which is really what they are pushing. For 6 tamales to-​go, it is $ 6. For a dozen tamales all the same flavor, it is $ 11. That’s under a dollar each!
I just wish they would just add more stuffings to the tamales…

«Handmade tamales» is the catch, so I hand-​picked this take-​outery. They are a wholesale company that has a waiting area (no chairs) for take out. They also sell the Tejano brand salsa (quite good), which you find in a number of stores. There are handy racks with bottled this and that.
Gotta hand it to them. They supply all the major league stadiums with tamales (soccer, football, baseball, and basketball). Wow. That a lot of hand me downs. Give ‘em a hand!
A dozen for $ 11 or half for $ 6. Maybe I am used to having a sauce to go with them, but they don’t do that, which is strange, since you would think they would want you to sample their sauces and salsas.
Shucks, the spicy pork tamales tasted very good. Actually, they multi-​day addictive. They are longer than most, but don’t have a lot of stuffing (i.e. great taste, less filling).
This business all started with Henry’s Dream (read about it on website). Family members lend a hand for serving customers. It’s nice to hard-​working folk have a successful business.
