Small little bar and a nice escape from all the pretentious bars in Houston. Try their frozen drinks. Nice staff, nice patrons, will visit again when I am in town

I had not been to Sunny’s for some time. But the night I went I met a couple from San Marcos, Texas. We played pool drank beer and jello shots. Which I had not enjoyed in years. Her name was Jenny Tidwell and her husband was hilarious! We had a grand old time dancing with some British airline stewardesses who popped into Houston to party for a bit! If you’re looking for some fun, easy-​going and casual place in H-​Town to grab a few drinks, Sunny’s is what you need. I truly like its location, which is right off Capitol downtown. Even though I’m local, I’ve been to this spot only twice, but I will definitely return for more! What amazing pool tables they have! Their beer selection is pretty wide and rotating, so for me visiting Sunny’s is a ray of a sunshine!

Great dive bar. Friendly staff, strong drinks at a good price. Great people watching. You can drink/​smoke outside. Been here for a week and it’s my go to happy hour place.

Best bar in downtown Houston! To quote another reviewer (Cidney A.), «It’s like the Houston equivalent of Cheers.» I couldn’t have said it better myself.

I would move on from this place. It’s pretty bright in there, I like my divey bars to be dark and dank, there were zero women, popcorn machine was empty. On a positive note, the bartender was quick and the drinks were cheap. It could just be the night I was there, but of the spots I hit in Houston, this one was disappointing compared to the favorable reviews.

Loved this bar! Went here one late night with a few good friends/​coworkers and we had a blast! The drinks were pretty cheap and the music was good. There were $ 1 different flavored jello shots. Not only that, the bartenders here are awesome, friendly, quick, and very attentive. When you go up to the bar they are really quick to greeting you and getting your drinks for you! Most of the people who went to this bar was pretty friendly and nice too. We made conversations with some random folks. When you walk in, the bar may seem a little small, but continue to walk towards the back right and there’s seatings in the back. Also, there are pool tables, dart board, and fuzz ball back there. Definitely fun to challenge your friends to a match after a few drinks! Overall, the atmosphere was great, the service was quick and friendly, drinks were cheap, awesome games to enjoy, and the music is up beat. I loved this bar and definitely will be going back here. If you haven’t been, go check it out!

Sunny’s is the most amazing place. I’ve been stopping by weekly for the past month, and each time, I notice that everyone talks to everyone there. It’s like the Houston equivalent of Cheers. There’s usually free food to nibble on, and they always seem to have great beers I’ve never heard of to satisfy my need to experiment. There are lots of regulars for us to say hello to each week, and the staff is about as friendly as they can be.

If I were to open a bar, this would be it but it would be called Burkhart’s. Not to be confused with the Burkhart’s in Atlanta, or is a gay bar.
Not that I don’t love gay bars but having to deal with hiring drag queens for entertainment doesn’t sound fun.

Love, love, LOVE Sunny’s. Always a good time here. I don’t get to Houston often but when I do, Sunny’s is (almost) like coming home.

I have a close friend that loves this place. I know a lot of folks that rave about it.
Meh. Been there. I’ve never had a good vibe. I’ve always felt uncomfortable and not wanted. Sunny has never given me the time of day and the word friendly would never cross my mind as an adjective to describe her as a bartender or owner of an establishment.
And for anyone (including the little boy who sent me a «compliment») that wants to accuse me of never having been to this establishment and just being a hater, you would be dead wrong. I live one block from this joint. Just because a review contradicts your own personal experience does not necessarily mean that the individual is a «hater.» This is my experience and my opinion. Be more of a man next time little one.

A funky, dive in the heart of downtown? Absolutely! Sunny is a witty, unchained joy behind her amazingly stocked bar. The prices are more than fair, the drinks are stout and the vibe is festive. Ask about the Diesel-​soaked pineapple!

Hands down my favorite bar in town. Sunny is there 6 days a week and she is a pistol! She always makes it a fun time. Diverse group of patrons. Reminds me of a Bourbon Street bar. Try the «Ray Charles» shot if you are looking to have a wild night.

Sunny’s is a place like no other, and by far there is no other like Sunny! She really make this place something special and welcoming to all. I first walked in here upon my first trip to Houston, and I can honestly say I have never been anywhere that compares or even comes close. Sunny provides a fun and relaxed environment I sometimes think of as my home away from home. I don’t usually frequent bars, however since the first day I stepped into Sunny’s I felt something special and comforting that makes work travel a pleasure.
If you are looking for a great place to relax with your colleges, or just have some time to yourself after a busy day at work I highly recommend Sunny’s bar. Aside from great drinks and prices on Thursdays she also has karaōke for your enjoyment and often comic relief!

This is the closest thing to a dive bar that you’re going to find downtown. The walls are covered in bumper stickers and plaques inching their way toward one point; If you’re an asshole, GTFO. Despite its flair for apathy, the bartender was all smiles and seemed to be having just as good a night as everyone else.

Awesome staff, they are very attentive and helpful. Their watermelon margarita is the best ever and they also have great watermelon shots. The frozen fruit punch is also great and it packs a mean punch!

We love Sunny’s bar and Sunny.
My partner and I both work & live in the city so we’ve been here a few times.
This is a place where you easily make friends with the person sitting next to you at the bar or with people in the back playing pool.
Sunny is usually there and she makes everyone feel welcomed to her place.
The restrooms are clean lady’s so feel comfortable knowing that even though the place is divey and most people expect a bad bathroom situation out of that scenario, thats not true in this case.
To the drinks.
Pineapple soaked in vodka, it’s potent! Don’t go to town like a little school girl at your first party or you’ll be face to the ground drunk.
The frozen drink is delicious and not to sweet in my opinion. For me the sweet stuff makes waking up the next day so much worse.
Jell-​O shots are my partners thing, I don’t like the texture of jell-​o but some people love these things and they are only a 1 $!!
From what I can tell every time I’ve been here there is always something cooked in a crock pot with other foods on a table back by the pool tables.
Which is nice to get something in your stomach so you don’t get drunk to quickly or to help soak up alcohol in your system.
It’s very casually here, you can wear you blue jeans and the shirt that has inappropriate slogans on it.
You also won’t be judged if you come in looking nicer or in your business suit after work.
That’s what’s great about it here. Everyone fits in, drinks are a good price.
Also there’s a patio for the smokers and people who wanna watch other drunk people downtown bar hopping. It’s actually funny!

My friends and I wanted Jell-​O shots and read we could get them here for $ 1.
This bar was probably one of our best finds, the lady who owned the bar and her son were so friendly. Along with the Jell-​O shots they had test tube shots, margaritas, and soaked pineapple for a great price!
The only issue was parking but that was expected.
We will definitely be back!

Exactly what it should be… a nice cheap bar in the middle of downtown. It was perfect for an after-​show night cap.
The bartender (who I guess is the owner… Sunny) was friendly and all over it. Drinks were strong a and solid well drinks… long islands hit the spot.

This little bar is about as casual and easy-​going as you can get. Located right off Capitol downtown, Sunny’s was one of the few bars open in the area and it probably falls into dive bar category. Pool tables and foosball in back, regulars up front, just the type of unassuming spot to grab a quick one.
As a first-​timer I felt all the folks in here were quite friendly outside of the couple macking on the couch in back. BUT they were busy so I understand. So stop by Sunny’s for a beer and little bit of sunshine…
