Studio 8 – Home of Chucke’s Choreography

This is a review about the studio itself, as I have yet to take casses here.
First off, the studio space is great. I love that it’s located among the warehouses (right next door to DiverseWorks). It’s a young, hip studio. They specialize in choreographing and performing at quinceneras. They hold hip hop, break dance, ballet and salsa classes.
The location is hard to find, but if you know where Vine St Studios and DiverseWorks studios are, it’s not too bad. The street runs parallel to I-​10. Many of our students got lost because signage is sparse in this area, but google maps is pretty accurate.
My dance partner and I rented space for a class, for a relatively good price. They take care of the sound system, and they have A/​C and heat. The floor is so-​so, as there are already some cracks in the wood flooring. My heel got stuck occasionally.
However, we found that the staff is pretty inconsistent when it comes to communication. It was difficult to reach the guy to reserve space and confirm prices. When we saw him in person, though, he was very responsive and competent– he made sure to give us a receipt for our rent payment, etc.
The studios are not necessarily soundproof, so we were able to hear the music from the hip-​hop class next door during our class.
They have classes that cater to all levels though, and their choreography looks awesome. I think they also sell shoes and stuff.
Their biggest ballroom is available to rent out for events (dance parties and such) — they say they can arrange DJing, catering, etc.
I’d say, great space, great location (downtown but hard to find for some), they just really need to work on being more responsive as a business.
