Steam Express

Bought carpet cleaning and air duct cleaning services from them using a coupon received in a mailer. I regret not checking out their reviews online. Their pricing is a good deal, but both times they added additional fees and tried to hard sell me more services. Their services were unimpressive, the workers were more used car salesmen than cleaning crew, and my bill turned out to be 4 times more than quoted. I won’t use them again as there are many cleaning companies out there.

Ever felt screwed? I mean really really screwed? Without grease. Without oil. Without lube. Without even a hug. I’m talking really screwed? Total hardcore, Amsterdam, tied up, bondage, dragged in a forest and left for dead screwed.
That is the exact feeling you get when working with Air Duct Express AKA Steam Express AKA «Other names so that you can’t find until after you get the receipt to actually research Express. «
Okay so I get this coupon in the mail. You know, that mailer of like 100 coupons that you open and flip through hoping to find something that you are going to use but end up a month later finding it again in a drawer and now it’s expired, pieces of mail. Yeah! That one. Well this time I used one and of the 5 coupons advertising air duct cleaning. I picked this one because it came with 2 free rooms of steam cleaning. (They try to talk you out of getting it.)
So yeah, the coupon says $ 88 bucks for up to 8 vents and explains how they clean all the way to the unit and use all this organic cleaning steaming crap. Yeah, it’s all on there together. What isn’t on there is that the $ 88 doesn’t actually include the cleaning AND disinfectant AND mold prevention AND returns cleaning AND unit box or whatever they want to call it cleaning.
For $ 88 bucks it’s basically a vacuum hose up your vents and inserted for like 4 feet and sucked for like 20 – 30 seconds per vent and you pay $ 20 per every other vent in the house. I’m like WTF. $ 20 per vent?! Slow your role and lets look at this.
Let me be clear here. The person I was talking too, Shalom, seems like a nice guy. Although the coupon is a blatant misleading LIE, the representation of their services from Shalom was very good. It actually sold me after about 500 question I asked in order to weed through the AC talk BS. And they look at you like, «why don’t you know these terms,» I’m like, uh. «because I don’t work in this industry dude, let’s break it down.» So we go back and forth with me translating his «duct» terminology to my, «Okay so you’re gonna only stick a vacuum up this hole» terminology.»
So finally now that we came to an understanding, that $ 88 useless coupon cost me 8 times as much. I first opted for the $ 250 plan but after enough questioning on that, that still didn’t cover any disinfecting to prevent mold or dusk. So I’m like, dude that’s like cleaning up the scars on the arms with out first fixing the heart attack. (My terminology.) So I’m like logically, in order to solve a problem you have to first fix the source of the problem. So I kind of sold myself to go for a more thorough … I wasn’t expecting at this time of the year to pay so damn much to clean an air duct when taxes are all due but I did the damn crap anyways and now I feel screwed because now all I smell is fresh air from what I could have done with air freshener, cleaning (Whew, I write some long English teacher hates me sentences.)
Anyways, I’m going to see if after I clean some really big surfaces if any dust settles on them within the next 2 days. If so, I’m leaving these 2 stars. If not I will add accordingly even though (YOU WANT TO READ THIS) that when they clean your vents, if any debris falls to the floor… they will not clean it up. They just leave it where it falls.

STAY AWAY! Trust me! They lied to us, they false advertise. I called after receiving a valpak coupon that I got $ 65 for 10 duct cleaning and ended up paying over $ 400 bucks. I even told the lady on the phone when I was scheduling that I don’t want to pay more than $ 65 but the guy kept arguing with me and force us to pay. He manipulated the contract and the coupons after the job was already done. They were very rude, unprofessional and aggressive. Really considering to sue for false and misleading advertising.

I believe they changed their name to AIRDUCT EXPRESS — «$ 74 up to 8 air ducts» is what they advertise. Hmmm, so tell me why the hell do they charge an additional 40 something per return. We have two returns, so we ended up paying hundred something for a service we thought would be no more than $ 74… BUT what the heck– they’re already in my home and starting the service.
The man who came with the two Hispanic guys said he was the «supervisor». Super pushy and I honestly wanted them to get the hell out of my house instead of continuing the service, but my fiancé just wanted to let them continue doing their «work». He gave me a very bad vibe– cocky, arrogant, he is right no matter how you try to tell him that he is false advertising. I wanted to call his rep right away and tell that beeotch why she doesn’t mention the probability of extra charges. This mfker dis not even ask us if we wanted the returns cleaned, he just added it. My fiancé told him jokingly «AH, there’s always a catch», but at this point I was already annoyed with this man .
We didn’t know that they also did carpet cleanings, so my fiancé wanted more info, and again the supervisor kept saying that it was in bad condition, that they have to sanitize and do some other things, but it was all BS to get more money out of us. His estimate was over $ 200 because he noticed we had a puppy and kept adding things to the list of recommendations. Another company just competed the job for is and for the cleaning, protector and closet cleaner, we paid $ 126.
Service: one guy (worker) said it would take about an hour, but it took like 20 minutes. They did a shitty job, to say the least, and I’m sure they did not clean the system correctly. They left dust everywhere, tried to «clean» it, but still left dust behind. If they don’t give a shi* about how they leave your house upon completion of the job, what makes you think they did a great job in the area that we can’t even see? Anyways, Jackie is one angry gal and does not recommend anyone use this company.

Rip off steam cleaner. Ad says $ 97 for 3 rooms. I only had two rooms but said my living room was considered 2 rooms. Trust me when I say there is no way it could be considered 2 rooms. Ad says rooms over 200 sq considered multiple rooms. Plus they did not clean very well. Was NOT happy with the attitude of carpet cleaner. I would never recommend this company

Never again. BIG MISTAKE. HUGE… From the time they entered my door to the time they finished the first room was 8 minutes. Total start to finish AFTER I made them redo the first room was 25 minutes… Never again… It’s now 11:32pm. They told me my carpets would be dry in 4 – 5 hours. It’s now been 12 and I can’t walk on them yet…
UPDATE: There was so much water left in my carpets it took 3 days to fully dry. After they were dry they felt «Krispy» to a bare foot… A week after the cleaning I can’t tell they were even done. The areas that showed wear (only 2 year old carpet so very little wear) look like they did before. Not a happy customer at all and I hope I can save others some money and frustration. Go somewhere else. Please.

Outstanding crew… Billy and Chris. They did an excellent job for me here in San Antonio. The gentlemen arrived on time and were very professional. Once they arrived, they gave me a quick and fair assessment and quickly got to work, without the usual bait and switch that other companies try. The price was fair for a very large home and a lot of stairs. Their work was thorough and great. My carpets look outstanding. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Thank you gentlemen.

They have done decent job. Some complains:
1. Unexpected extra charges — The charge for cleaning return (large $ 35 each, small $ 25 each) need to be mentioned in ads; The game room was considered as 2 rooms (he did not define what meant one room). The coupon from Valpak said Air duct cleaning whole house package for $ 77 for single furnace with free 2 rooms carpet cleaning with air duct cleaning, but it was basic cleaning and $ 20 extra each for deep cleaning. They said I can use the coupon only once since I have 2 units of furnace. Finally, I paid $ 369.00 (with tax $ 399.00).
2. Not clean areas with small furniture — if the help is needed to move the small furniture end from the house owner, they should notice the owner. Because, in my situation, if I did not check, the areas with small furniture, such as light stand, deco stools, even small chairs, would not be cleaned. I helped to move the small furniture so that the areas were cleaned. The worker was not happy for that since I asked him to do so and his explanation was that the small stuffs might be broken when moved. It is understandabl for the fear of liability. However, the owner needed to be noticed and undertand the responsibility and may provide help.
3. Messy working environment — leaving my wood floor dirty with boots and hoses. I have to do extra cleaning work for my floor and stairs.
4. The worker apparently was rushing to finish the job without carefully exam the cleaning job. Just before the workers got their hose back to the truck, the last air return was remembered to be cleaned. That last move made me feel unsure if they did other air returns right or not.
5. Dump all dirty fluid in my driveway and made it messy.
6. They said I need to get mold off for $ 900. I am not expect to spend that money right now and not sure if I need their service again to my home…
7. I am not satisfied with this job. And I will read more reviews before making decision.

Similar complaints to others. When I set up the appointment they told me it would take two hours to clean all the air ducts and steam clean the carpets. On the day we got a call a little over an hour before they were supposed to arrive asking if they could come early. We said ok and then rushed to move the furniture so we would be ready for them. Over an hour later they finally showed up and said they had gotten lost getting to our house. They did the evaluation of the air ducts and advised us that there us mold in the upstairs HVAC unit and ducts (which there is). But the price quoted to clean and sanitize the system was about $ 300 more than anyone else — I called around to four other companies to check prices before we agreed. Their coupon for air duct cleaning doesn’t include the returns, which are an extra $ 35 each. Ridiculous because they spend about 5 minutes cleaning each one. We refused the cleaning and sanitation because it was overpriced and the woman answering the phone at the office couldn’t explain properly what the charges were and why they were more. She was very unprofessional and rude. Then one of the workers told us he was leaving to go buy himself a new phone charger. When he got back we said we were going to wait to do the HVAC servicing. They then rushed and did a one hour job cleaning the vents and doing the carpets. They didn’t vacuum the upstairs where all the debris from the vents fell — only the downstairs because we were watching them down there. Left a huge mess. Didn’t move back any furniture upstairs that they moved either. Very poor. Look elsewhere.

First time customer, and it will be the last time! I called to make an appointment and to find out more information about their service, the receptionist that answered was completely rude. I figured, I’d try it out because I had a Valpak coupon and she’s not the one doing the carpet cleaning so whatever. They arrived on time and called 30 minutes ahead of time before arriving which was good. However, the service was terrible. The men did not help move the furniture whatsoever. I understand when it comes to heavy furniture but they did not move anything! They watched me and my sister move everything we could and we are two young ladies! The man examining our carpet was also arrogant, lazy, and lying about the size of the rooms «just by looking at it» he came up with a random square footages. I’ve had my carpet steamed cleaned before by other companies and they have always at least helped move the furniture. But these people are horrible. They were also cutting corners and did not do a good job.
