Save a Cat Rescue Adopt For Life

I have made 3 phone calls to their posted phone number and filled out the application twice and emailed it to them. I have spent the entire week trying to adopt a declared cat and still haven’t heard anything from anyone. Decided to see if there were any online reviews and I see I am not alone. What a shame. Think I will make a phone call to the SPCA in Houston and report this pitiful excuse of an animal rescue. And ask for an investigation of this rescue. What a scam!

It’s too bad we didn’t read these reviews before we saw Olivia and reached out to the organization to adopt her. Like others, we received no response. A rescue organization who doesn’t respond to those interested in adopting published cats through their site or sites like petfinder is totally counterintuitive to the mission. If they want to keep Olivia, which I think is obvious, then pull her down from available cats. Not only did they miss the opportunity to have a pet rescued into a good home, but they lost the ability to get donations from us on an ongoing basis — something we’ve done for other rescue organizations. In the end, we found a pair of adorable 7 month old kitten boys we adopted from an organization that actually responds to inquiries instead.

If I could give no stars, I would. Me and my boyfriend walked in on Saturday afternoon, just to browse at the cats, no intention on adopting one. The director, I assume, was in our business as soon as we walked in the door. She asked us if we were interested in adopting and we said no, we were just browsing. She then asked how many pets we have at home (2 cats and 2 dogs). She asked why we were interested in adopting (again, we were just browsing) and we told her our cat had just passed away. She then asked how the cat passed away. First of all, that’s not any of her concern. I did not tell her, because I did not want to go into detail about it. She then asked if our 2 cats were indoor or outdoor (they are both, mainly indoor) I explained that we have a doggy door they go in and out of, but the yard is fenced in., so they don’t go anywhere. She then told us that in the contract, the cats are indoor only. Again, we were browsing. No intention on adopting. As she followed us throughout the entire place, asking us a million questions about our cats and dogs, she went to the other guy who works there, and whispered (apparently she thought I couldn’t hear her) «They have 2 outdoor cats, they can not adopt here.» First of all, I never said the cats were outdoor cats. I specifically said they were indoor and outdoor. Mostly indoor. Second of all, her millions of questions, completely turned us off.
Needless to say, we will not be returning there. Her attitude was very rude and degrading. I felt as though she was trying to attack me and my boyfriend. I did not like the fact that she continued to follow me throughout the place. I felt very uncomfortable.

This is everything that a rescue should not be. The director asked me to adopt multiple cats, when i was only prepared to adopt one. That one cat is being held by the director to entice other people (the cat is exotic). It was a grave, heartbreaking process as I waited days, then weeks for her to return my calls and emails. When we met initially, she made me stay all day at her rescue while she tended to other people/​animals. My time was completely devalued.
The next day, when I gratefully asked to rescue Olivia, with whom I truly felt a connection, she never returned my calls.
She also continues to field requests for people who want Olivia, but has never released her. (I know this because she accidentally sends strange emails that are directed to other recipients. I’m not sure she understands how email works.)
I doubt seriously that much re-​homing happens with this rescue. Certainly it’s subject to many factors that are irrelevant to provision for a homeless cat.
The description for «Olivia» and her asking to be loved in a Forever Home was just this rescue owner’s way of attracting people who found Olivia beautiful/​charming. She herself admitted she’s had hundreds of people interested, but «none of them were good for Olivia.»
This is why people go to animal shops/​pet stores/​breeders instead of trying to help rescues. I would have done anything necessary to provide a loving, safe, permanent home for Olivia, and she completely blocked that opportunity and unprofessionally at that.
