Salt Bar

All I have to say is holy crap!!! The margarita’s are defiantly super salty. I’m not used to that much salt but what do you expect??? The place is called Salt Bar.

I came here to see a friend play live music on a Wednesday night. This is a pretty standard bar. Cement floors, plenty of seating, 2 outdoor patio areas.
My only complaint is the beer selection. So many places these days offer a much more diverse beer selection! Salt bar only offers the standard domestics (Bud Light, Miller Lite, etc.) and the «Imports» of XX, Shiner, etc.
Overall decent place, I’d like to go back on the weekend to see what kind of crowd it draws.

I think Salt has a little bit of an identity crisis. It started off as something different with the live music. I stopped by there the other weekend, and I hear bumpin’ top 40 hits and attention seeking females dancing in the «stage» area. Salt had officially become the overflow space for Pearl Bar. No more live music.
At least it was easy for us to get in with our horrible guy: girl ratio of like 35:1. Same entry criteria as Pearl considering that they went ahead and moved the entry point to both places in front of Salt.

My friends and I were looking forward to a special Margarita bar. What we got was an average bar like any other one on Washington. We went up happily to the bartender and asked «So we heard that you guys were a Margarita bar. What do you have?» She shrugged her shoulders and with an exhausted look said «Yeah but we have a full bar.» Way to sell the company. Very disappointing. The Pearl owners tried to come up with something new but it’s rather the same as Pearl. No crowd on a Saturday night either so my recommendation is to just stay at Pearl.

Apparently, still a popular place on Washington — you’ll need to pay for valet or lot parking. Swanky, chill, hip hop music overhead. Some people who think they are beautiful were there. Also, a guy cooking burgers and chili outside. We tried the mystery pink frozen concoction, that tasted like bubblegum.

I kept hearing about how Salt is Pearl’s little sister, so I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. Granted, this was a Tuesday night, but it was smaller than I’d imagined, yet not cramped. There was still a good crowd there, and when I’ve passed by on Saturdays, it’s not *quite* as packed as Pearl.
It’s rather thin and narrow, with a mini-​stage set up at the front, the bar along the side bordering Pearl, and a bunch of high tables along the other side. There’s also a good-​sized patio.
They have a bunch of specialty margaritas – frozen and not frozen with or without toppers – and tequilas. My frozen dragonberry margarita set me back $ 11, but they had pitchers of margaritas, frozen or on the rocks, that night for $ 15. As an example of the typical Washington D-​bag, one guy bitched about how his pitcher wasn’t full. Seriously, you’re paying all of $ 15 for it, and you’re complaining? I told him as much. Further jackassery: he moved his hand towards the tip jar – but didn’t actually tip. I would’ve called him out on it if it didn’t take me so long to process what he didn’t do.
They have specials Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and happy hour as well (bottomless chips, $ 3 wells, beers, frozen ritas).
In addition to Texas Songwriters Night, they have live acts some other nights, including Fridays and Saturdays. There are some large flatscreen TVs above the bar. I was pretty peeved at my friend when she tried dragging me away from the Stanley Cup playoffs. My team wound up winning, so ha!

I’ve been wanting to try out this place since it opened and was excited to meet some friends there Friday night. I was just not impressed. We were there during happy hour and my husband and I ordered a scotch for him and a skinny margarita for me. Those two drinks cost us $ 19! I wouldn’t have minded paying a little extra for the margarita if it had been good, but I’m pretty sure it was just Baja Bob’s sugar free margarita mix and cheap tequila. Not was I was expecting! Also, there was only one bartender while we were there and she was taking her sweet time making drinks. I don’t plan on coming back to this place. There are just a lot better places to go after work to grab a drink.

Only at Salt will you spot the manliest of men sipping on the girliest of drinks: colorful, swirly frozen bevs.
Behind the bar, you’ll spot four machines, churning out red, white and blue margaritas — and frozen sangrias too. They’ve got regular sangrias, too. I’m not a big tequila drinker, but they do have a nice selection and also carry the only kind that I’ll shoot: Don Julio. My first time in, I was there to quickly meet a friend; and I didn’t plan on drinking anything, but the bartender insisted that I try all the drinks. So on he poured my «frozen flight» in shot glasses. That was kind of him. Second time around was on a busy Saturday night — something I’d never do on Washington, but trust me, it wasn’t nearly as crowded as the freak show next door at Pearl.
Live music was going on, which wasn’t so bad but it was a guy doing cover songs. Meh. Thankfully, we stepped out on the patio for a breath of fresh air. They also had a taco guy manning the fajitas on the grill, and the tamale man stopped by.

When the owners at Pearl Bar resolved to expand into the space at Salt, they decided that they wanted it to be a live music venue, and so it was. As you might infer from the name, whether you want salt on your tequila, your margarita, or your chips — this place has got you covered. The simple menu has an array of tequilas from bottom to top shelf, and a corresponding number of margaritas to go with them, with several versions, even top shelf, in those frozen machines ready to go at a moment’s notice. But don’t worry, if tequila ain’t your thang, they’ve got a number of domestic and import beers as well as your typical bar spirits. During happy hour, until 8, in addition to drink specials, you can get bottomless chips and salsa. If you want something a little more substantial, you can order pizza from Candelari’s, owned by the same partners.
I think this Thompson corner of Washington is one that will withstand the fickle effects of time. While the affliction of bottle-​service clubs will assuredly (thankfully) clear up, a bar with a laid back atmosphere and a lone songwriter with a guitar and artistic abandon can’t help but draw in even a casual passerby. And while undoubtedly on the weekends Salt sees an influx of patrons of the sort its sister bar, Pearl, normally attracts, during the week its got an almost Austin feel. Which is why Brant Croucher’s Tuesday Songwriter nights have been so successful. A cavernous concert hall, this is not, but if you want to see a line-​up of local talent sharing a half dozen songs each, the Salt bar makes a great venue. Sit at the sidewalk tables out front, one of the many bar height tables inside, or out on the back patio, cold margarita in hand, as the gentle strains of an acoustic guitar and the chance harmonica play over the speakers and mingle with the evening air, and thank your lucky stars you’re in Texas.

So this is the new bar in the corner with Pearl Bar and The Lot. This is one of the few corners on Washington that I don’t mind attending. Pearl has just gotten way too crowded, so I end up at the Lot which has the same feel as the outside part of Pearl Bar. Stepping it down even another notch you have Salt.
I was really confused about why it was called Salt, but makes sense when you are inside and you realize they specialize in margaritas. They have 4 frozen margarita machines. I had the top shelf and it was so smooth. Like an Icee but with a decent kick.
It’s a chilled spot, and definitely a place I will be coming back to.

Very Cool Bar! Live Music is Awesome; Singer/​Songer writer night on Tuesday was really cool — great crowd and great talent! Franky’s Cut on Friday — great band too! Can’t beat the margarita’s– love the «skinny margarita»! Consistently a cool crowd! Gotta check it out, one of my new fav spots!

A bar is a bar is a bar is a bar. Decent place, decent prices. On par with the area. One cool thing I’ll note is that one day I walked in and they had a live band playing popular cover songs, which is cool and missing in the area. It was before peek hours which is unfortunate cause I think it’s a great way to differentiate themselves from the other bars on the street and because I love hearing live music. Overall, not too bad of a spot.

If you like strong frozen margaritas then Salt Bar is your new place. All frozen ritas are made with silver tequila, which I’m not a fan of, but I really liked them, especially their 1800 blend. The bar will let you taste each of them before you order. And what goes with ritas? Chips and salsa, they offer for $ 3, but stay away from the salsa if you can’t handle jalapenos, way too spicy. Happy hour $ 3 ritas and beer. Each night they have drink specials, full bar. Friendly bartender but lacking wait staff. Outdoor patio in the back, a few outdoor tables in the front. Valet parking $ 6.

Salt Bar is a welcomed addition to Washington Avenue. Upscale, well dressed older crowd, amazing drinks and fun music. They are a Margarita bar with 4 frozen machines and a list of custom margaritas.
Went here on a Saturday night. Moderately full at 10 pm, really full by 12 am. Much better crowd than Pearl.
Bartender Ashley is amazing!
