Yale Eye Center is a full service optometric practice that provides diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, co-​management of cataracts and lasik. We perform comprehensive visual exams that diagnose and treat computer vision syndrome and dry eye symptoms. We have a complete optical dispensary for your eyeware needs.

Our optical dispensary offers more than 600 high fashion frames at moderate pricing. Both of our opticians have over 30 years experience in adjusting and fitting eye wear. Every patient is given personal service in selecting frames that are both fashionable and comfortable.

We also have a comprehensive selection of contact lenses including soft and gas permeable lenses. We fit standard lenses as well as the more complex.

Business Owner

Dr. Ullman (O.D., Doctor of Optometry) is an independent primary health care provider who specializes in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures. He is uniquely qualified to deal with functional vision disorders and/​or problems in visual processing which affect reading, computer use, and other aspects of learning, development and behavior. He is also specially trained in the diagnoses and management of glaucoma and other eye diseases.

He attended University of Houston, College of Optometry. After graduation, Dr. Ullman enlisted in the Army and during his tour he was given a Certificate of Acheivement Award. Dr. Ullman continued his education to become a Glaucoma specialist and obtained his Theraputic License. He is a member of Texas Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and Harris County Optometry Society. He is also a vice president for Eye Care for Kids.

I had a corneal scratch on my eye awhile back (like two years) and he’s the only Optometrist I’ve met who shot straight with me. He said it was my contact brand that was causing the scratch (I seemed to get one once a year) and not long after that brand was recalled. He was right because I haven’t had a problem since.

Dr. Ullman changed my life. I have been in contacts for almost 20 years. My husband, who works in the industry, told me to try to see if Dr. Ullman could help me, as he was a leading eye doctor in Houston. I have always switched from different contact brands and had trouble with eye allergies. When I saw Dr. Ullman, he inquired about my challenges and was very thorough. He switched me to daily contacts about 4 years ago and it truly changed my life. He explained why he thought those contacts would be a better option for me and has always done a very thorough eye exam. I’ve never received this type of exceptional care before. Eye sight is so important. His staff is very nice and helpful when I have picked out glasses and needed to change appointment times. If you care about your eyes, I highly recommend that you see Dr. Ullman. He is truly one of a kind and will give you the best eye care.

Dr. Ullman sees my entire family– and always does a thorough exam with each one of us. He has state of the art equipment and is very detailed in explaining all medical issues. His office staff is knowledgeable about your insurance and will help you pick out the best frames, lens based on your coverage. I would highly recommend him as the go to family optometrist.

They say even the best eye docs need an eye doc and this place has him, Dr. Ullman. From his rotating eye charts (so you can’t cheat) to what some would call great bedside manner, I found him years ago but opted to go elsewhere. I am glad I returned. Very down to earth and his appointments are on time; no 45 min wait past your appointment to see the doc, the schedule lady keep you prompt

Horrible experience. I went because of the reviews and location, but this was definitely not the place for me. The office is not nice. At all. I felt like I had stepped back into the early 80’s. I then had to wait and wait and wait. I was there for a routine eye exam and was in the office for over 2 hours! They seemed disorganized. There also seemed to be tension between staff and doctor or maybe he just talked to them like that normally… not respectful. So after this bad experience, I just needed my prescription and order contacts. They didn’t even have the most up to date contact samples that I normally use. They did mail directly to my house, but when they arrived, they were the wrong prescription! So then I had to pack up my babies and go back up to the not so nice office and get it corrected. They reluctantly apologized, ordered the correct ones and then charged me the shipping! I will not be back in the future. I ordered the rest of my contacts thru 1800contacts (which were cheaper and quicker), and won’t be back.

I absolutely love Dr Ullman. My husband has been a patient of his for 30+ years and now we take our kids to see him. He is very thorough and truly cares about each of his patients. I never leave feeling like just a patient of his but more like a friend. Location is in the heights. Appts are easy to make. You can call and get an appt relatively soon. Nothing is more frustrating than having to wait three weeks to be seen by a dr. I typically go to the med center for all my dr appts, so my expectations are high. I also like that they don’t overbook appts there. I would definitely recommend.

The only reason I’m giving Dr. Ullman four stars and not five is his front of office. While they were very nice, it wasn’t until I spoke with the person that seems to be in charge that we got anywhere with my insurance. It was very frustrating.
Once that was handled Dr. Ullman and his vision staff were great. He’s the first Dr. that explained to me why my eyes are so very dry. Every other Dr. would just blow me off saying everyone has dry eyes. This was the biggest relief to me, I’m not crazy, they are drier than your average eye. ;)
Dr. Ullman has a great «bedside» manner. He’s patient, never rushed and informative. I’ll continue seeing him for sure.
His office and reception staff seem a bit old fashioned, but it’s kind of charming for a local Heights Dr.
*My Dad was in town and his glasses were incredibly crooked from him sitting on them too many times, Dads. I took him down to Dr. Ullman’s and they fixed them right then for free, no questions asked. So wonderful to get service like that.

Dr. Ullman is great! Living in the Heights my entire life, I never had a need to visit his office until I needed glasses and I’m glad I chose him as my optometrist.
Not only does his office give you a welcoming, vintage-​Heights feel but makes you feel right at home. Not only does he give thorough eye exams but you can really tell that he knows what he is doing, making you feel confident that your eyes are in good hands. Dr. Ullman is very nice and attending, I definitely recommend him.

I was referred to Dr. Ullman by a family friend and decided to give Yale Vision Center a try. Before my appointment, I submitted my insurance information and the staff promptly called me back to verify that everything checked out. During my appointment, Dr. Ullman was very friendly and knowledgeable. I opted to do the digital imaging which gives a 3D image of the eye since there is a history of glaucoma in my family. Dr Ullman took the time to thoroughly explain these images and overall how our eyes function. After my exam, the staff was very hands on helping me choose a new pair of frames. Overall great service, expertise, and a comfortable atmosphere. I will definitely be coming back.

I am reading amazing things about Dr. Ullman himself but unfortunately I did not even get that far.
When I called to make an appointment, the new receptionist did not take down my insurance information so I got about three more calls that day asking for information. I was happy to provide that information and I did warn her that she would need to call my insurance office because I have out-​of-​state insurance, and I provided her with the phone number.
When I went in for my appointment the next day, she informed me that she could not pull up my insurance. I asked if she had called the insurance office and she informed me «No we did not,» which would have solved the problem to begin with. Then an older woman came and began harshly informing me that «We don’t do that here» (as in call insurance companies to verify), she continued to berate me about various other thing regarding the insurance to which my response was simply that all could be figured out if the insurance office was called. I even offered to call.
This continued for several more minutes during which I felt extremely uncomfortable and as if I was being yelled at and treated like a child. She walked away to put the information I gave her into the computer and I said «I see that this is a big inconvenience and I think I am going to find somewhere else to go.» The woman barked «I have it now» (Meaning it only took those 45 seconds when she went to sit down and enter the number before it came up)
I let them know that I didn’t appreciate the way that I had been treated and would be finding another place to go. I have NEVER been treated that way by staff somewhere that I was bringing my business.
I was really looking forward to going to Dr. Ullman, so close to my house and two friends recommended but unfortunately when you have a horrible interaction with office staff it really ruins the entire experience.

This place was wonderful. Dr. Ullman is very thorough and made sure to explain everything to me that was happening and why I felt any discomfort with my contact lenses. He was nice and he listened to what I had to say when discussing my eye care. I went there for my yearly exam and new contact lenses and it was a great experience. My only negative would be that the office could be refreshed so it doesn’t look so old but everything was clean and all technology adn equipment was up to date and worked great. I’ve never had such a pleasant experience. They were able to fit me in next day when I called. Irma spent time with me helping me to find a pair of glasses that I loved and took a lot of measurements to be sure that they would fit me perfectly. I felt so taken care of the entire appointment!

Great experience – about as enjoyable as it gets, as far as eye-​appointments go. I initially found Dr. Ullman on ZocDoc, but thought I’d share my great experience here for those in the Heights looking for an Optometrist.
I highly recommend seeing Dr. Ullman. He’s incredibly thorough and genuinely has the patients’ best interest at heart.

Wonderful and friendly staff. Dr. Ullman was very helpful in explaining everything to me. I learned more about my eyes with one visit than I have my entire life, and I’ve been going to the eye doctor since I was 3. Will definitely return to see Dr. Ullman. Only negative is the office could use some refreshing but everything was clean and all equipment/​technology was up-​to-​date.
