Residence Inn Houston Downtown/Convention Center

5 stars because tonight when I returned to my room I was astounded by the maid service. Clothing on the floor was neatly folded, my toiletries in the bathroom were carefully organized and put on a hand towel and placed on the counter. I have never seen this level of service. I’ll be writing a letter to the management with praise.

Over the years we have stayed at numerous extended stay hotels on family vacations. The Residence Inn Houston is among the best.
While it is clean and well maintained, what sets this hotel apart from the rest is its staff. From the friendly yet efficient desk clerk who welcomed this band of weary travelers (including 5 tired kids) and sent us up to our room with a smile to the two gracious women who run the breakfast café, everyone we dealt with embodied hospitality.
The breakfast is great and the kids loved the make your own waffle maker — so much so that it is on some of their Christmas lists (sorry Santa, Mom is not going to okay that choice!)
The first morning we were there I left my purse in the café, the café ladies had it turned in to the front desk before I even missed it. They flagged me down when I got off the elevator and when I went to retrieve it at the front desk, the clerk assured me that it was their policy not to open it until two staff members were present — so considerate (although I have to admit that the contents of said purse are not worthy of such formalities!)
The front desk staffer provided us with helpful information about visiting the Space Center, shopping at The Galleria, and arranged for our ground transportation.
Yes, there is construction and yes, it is noisy but by the look of things, that is going to be done relatively soon.
Our two bedroom suite was spacious and well appointed. We look forward to the opportunity to visit the Residence Inn Houston again in the future.

The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is because of the construction all around the hotel which I didn’t expect after booing this hotel; or even know about until the day of check in.
The 2 bedroom/​2 bathroom suite we had was roomy. The hotel was very clean and great service from the front door. we used the work out amenities next door at the Springhill suites.
Parking was $ 30 a night, but that’s probably the going rate in downtown Houston.
Would for sure be back!

Great Hotel! Convenient to Downton and the Convention Center. Extremely helpful and friendly front desk staff. The breakfast is very very good and the people that work there are also very friendly. The valet and bell staff certainly go above and beyond. Hotel is clean and rooms are very nice! Will certainly stay there again!

Staff is very accommodating for what it is that you need. I was impressed by the size of the room. The free breakfast was a nice perk although if you want a good breakfast, I would recommend going out. Wi-​Fi was also free and was very reliable in the room I was in. Overall, I think this was a really good bargain for the price. Staying in downtown Houston so close to everything for this price was pretty great

Booked my trip through Priceline for a very good price and everything seemed pretty great. Breakfast is free and of course it’s your usual free hotel breakfast fare. I had no complaints! I definitely do plan to stay here again in the future as it is across the street from the Houston Pavilion where the House of Blues is located. It is essentially at the center of everything that matters in downtown Houston.

I stayed here this past weekend and I was VERY impressed with the HUGE rooms! They are seriously the biggest hotel rooms I have ever seen. With the kitchen and separate sitting area it was more like a condo! I really enjoyed my stay. Every single staff member we came across was super friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel without any hesitation whatsoever. The rates are amazing for a central downtown hotel. I was in town for a conference at the Toyota Center and it was just a short walk away from the hotel. There are several restaurants nearby and a mall also. The complimentary hot breakfast just made the stay that much more enjoyable. Lots of variety! If my travels take me to Houston again I would definitely stay there again.

I bid through priceline so I got it for 48.00 night. I was just OK. The room was spacious. The bed was hard like I like it but the pillows were miniature and too soft. They said they have free dinner and drinks Monday-​Thursday and of course I check in Friday.
The complementary breakfast was OK the average continental breakfast.
The room was 124.00 BUTTTTTTT parking is 28.00 per night. This is a RIP off. I called and asked if it was true she said yes because you have access to your car for 24 hours. If it were up to me I would have parked in a garage and walked. My bill ended up being 163.00.

The manager along with one of their employees finally got involved and went above and beyond to resolve my issues.
It took quite the effort to get to this point… but I’m very happy it’s resolved.

I thought staying downtown Houston was going to be a convenience but it turned out to be an inconvenience at this Marriott property. I booked a room with a city view but was given a room with a view facing the Marriott Courtyard! building. I was not happy but what made me rate this hotel low was the terrible valet service. I had a hard enough time parking the car in valet. Anyways, I was not able to leave because the garage was full and no cars could leave. I was stranded and could not drive around Houston. Bad garage design because there was no other way out. You have to come in and out of the parking garage the same way so they need to change this. Warning for any other customers that come here especially for huge events because you could be stranded. So if you plan to just stay in the hotel then go ahead and stay here but if you want to leave the hotel, you could experience the same as I have becoming stranded! Hotel is nice and the rooms are nice but unfortunately that’s the only nice thing I can say. I will not be back here until they fix the valet issues!

We stayed here for New Year’s Eve to avoid having to drive home after the party at Discovery Green. I’ll be honest: it wasn’t the greatest stay because of the drunks next door who prank called us in the middle of the night. But the customer service from the front desk turned a negative into a positive because everyone I talked to seemed to care about making the situation better. I heart customer service. They’ve been trained well at this hotel.
If you’re coming here from out of town, the walk to the convention center is about 7 blocks, and the city runs a shuttle bus for free that stops on the corner that goes to several downtown stops (Greenlink) including the George R Brown.
If you’re from here, it’s not a bad place to staycation because of the proximity to Pete’s, House of Blues, and Phoenecia, plus the light rail is about a block away to take you to any other downtown venue.
Rates are on par with what the Courtyard charges next door, but the Residence Inn has a free hot breakfast with lots of stuff and kitchenettes in the rooms (with the Phoenecia international food store/​deli nearby, that could be fun) whereas the Courtyard restaurant will charge you for breakfast. Plus a full size fridge is handy for storing adult beverages…
So we will be back at the Residence Inn the next time we want a night out downtown without getting a DUI. I suspect on any night other than New Year’s Eve it will be a lot quieter.

This is an awesome hotel!!! We stayed here over Labor Day weekend as a little get-​a-​way from reality (AKA the kids, etc).
Now Courtyard & Residence are both joined together so the valet parking for both is in the same spot. Right on the corner is my all time favorite… drum roll… Starbucks!!! Directly across the street is Books-​A-​Million, House of Blues, Pet’s Dueling Piano Bar, etc!!! Great place to stay & have lots of food & drinks without having to drive, or call a cab. (depending on how big of a drinker you are!!!).
As many may already know, Residence Inn is more of a hotel for a weeks stay, versus Courtyard, which is more over night. Residence fit us perfect because there is a full kitchen & my husband & I more than likely will want to keep our drinks colder in a fridge rather than a bucket of ice. Also, any leftovers can be refrigerated & reheated in the convenient microwave or stove top. My husband really wanted to see what the Courtyard beds/​rooms looked like because Residence only went up to a Queen, leaving little room for me!!! But I’m happy to say, it was very comfy & we both got a couple good nights sleep. The room decoration, modern, yet you still had a homey feeling, & great bar area to eat at with spacious bathroom.
The free breakfast in the morning was to die for!!! The staff was super friendly & went out of their way to provide us with trays so that we could eat our magnificent breakfast back up in our room. We had Belgium waffles, scrambled eggs, cut potatoes, ham, sausage gravy & biscuits, muffins, & all kind of fruit & yogurt!!! Much better than your usual bagel & jelly like some places.
I defiantly recommend this hotel if you’re staying more than one night. We got super rates on
. We will definitely be rerunning in the future???

I am a big fan of all RIs and they are all comparable if not identical. However, I was not a big fan of this location for a couple reasons. Every RI I have ever been to has had numerous propane BBQ grills for your use to grill up food. So, when I arrived in town, I purchased a great steak and was looking forward to it for dinner. However, to my dismay, this location does not have a grill. Apparently the city of Houston will not permit a grill for them downtown. My second complaint about this location is that they only offer valet parking, which runs $ 22 a night. Every other RI offers free parking, so this is an extra cost. That being said, this is a downtown location and parking is always a premium in any city’s downtown area.
That being said, there is a Starbucks right next to the RI, which is always a great pick-​me-​up in the morning on they way to your business meetings.

The Residence Inn has very friendly staff, the room that you expect from a Residence Inn. They have a rooftop pool which is very nice and a good work-​out room.

What a wonderful hotel in a great location!
The staff of the hotel were very helpful in both getting around the city and assisting with the hotel issues (minor) as well.
Stayed here 4 nights in June 2008. In a 2 bedroom suite. Excellent experience!
The living room/​kitchen was nicely setup, as were the bedrooms. Service was prompt and transparent.
Only issue was with breakfast… which can get a bit packed. The staff brought out other chairs/​tables for use during a very busy Sunday morning breakfast.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and on my next trip to Houston, very likely will stay here again.
