R. L. & Cora Johnson Park

This neighborhood park was originally called Carverdale Park prior to local leaders changed the name to R L & Cora Johnson Park (
has the complete story). The official address is 9801 Tanner Road; however, there is no parking. The best way to enter the parking lot is on Porto Rico Road and Sweetbay Lane near Carvardale Community Center.
This is a multi-​purpose park situated on a 10-​acre odd-​shaped land while surrounded by houses and businesses. There are large baseball field, basketball court, tennis court, asphalt walking trail, swing sets as well as picnic tables and a few BBQ grill stands. While there are a couple of covered benches, this park can hold many parties at the same time.
The reason being my favor park is the parking lot and mature trees. There are a few designated handicap parking spots and easily accessible to Porto Rico Road and Gessner Drive. It’s always cool to walk on the trail with the shady trees on sunny days.
