The whole experience was very confusing. The food absolutely does not suit my taste, but I also won’t say it’s bad cause the locals seem to enjoy it. Food was served in a plastic box and tastes low quality.

The pastries weren’t bad. The food was pretty good. Would I go out of my way to go there again? Maybe!

Typical filipino store. I am not surprised. Food is authentic, cooked by your typical filipino grandma/mom status. Being flipino myself, and knowing the culture, the employees that serve you are super rude and disregard you sometimes. Even to go as far as «pretending» not to hear you. I literally had to almost raise my voice to an outside voice so the guy could hear me. The lechon kawali here is good, but drenched in oil. They also pack the take home bowls so that is at least nice. The bbq was good as well. Don’t forget to check out the fridge area, there are a wide variety of deserts, and changes from time to time.

Re-heated food galore. Street food from Quiapo between 3am to 7am is way better, and that’s not even when I’m drunk! They gave Pilipino food a bad name!

One of the few Filipino restaurants in Houston, this is probably the best. I love how Filipino cuisine seamlessly integrates Thai, Chinese, Spanish and other cuisines. Inside the restaurant is a bakery, a refrigerated section and the hot food counter. The bakery offers a variety of breads and sweets – including those with red bean and ube(purple yam) filings. The refrigerated section contains additional sweets, most rice flour or tapioca/cassava based, and some drinks. The hot line is where you can choose your sides to go with rice. The selection is diverse – the time I went we tried sour pickled vegetable with fish, adobo chicken and bicol express – all great options. I’ve also tried their taho(soft tofu with sago in brown sugar syrup) and halo halo. The tofu in the taho was soft and smooth, and the syrup water wasn’t too sweet. The halo halo had an interesting mix of ingredients, but was a bit sweet for me, though I loved the flavor contrasts in it!

We got the two combo for breakfast and wanted an egg as an add-on. We are willing to pay extra, however, the lady at the counter I guess did not understand us or they do not offer that service. It’s a shame that they cannot adjust.

I love, love, love this restaurant. Pugon is a place that anyone can, with confidence, order what they want because the food is right there to see. You simply point to what you want. If that is not enough, the staff is super helpful and will fill you in on each entrée. If you’re new to Filipino cuisine, I definitely recommend trying the pancit and adobo pork. The pork is tender and with lots of layers of flavors hiting your taste buds. The pancit is good old comfort food– yummy noodles with lots of great veggies and seasoning. The most pleasant surprise was the flan! It is amazing. It is creamy with the perfect balance of sweetness and the perfect custard to sauce ratio. The best I have had in Houston.

We came here after having dinner at Jollibee, which is nearby. We picked up some empanadas and Hopia red bean pastries in a plastic box. I went up to the cashier to pay and the girl behind the counter was nice enough to point out that there should have been more pastries in the box. At first she asked me if I’d eaten any, I said«no way!» Someone probably munched on a few and put the box back on the shelf! The girl went ahead and got me another box. Now that’s what I call taking care of your customers!

Came here as we were visiting Houston for a short period of time and tried a few things. We got the pancit & bbq combo, the 2 meals and rice combo and the sago gulaman. The pancit was okay. it was quite dry but had decent flavor. The bbq was good, it was flavorful, and meaty. Although I hope the combo came with 2 instead of just one skewer! For our two meal combo, we got the sisig and the sarsa. The sisig was nothing like how sisig should be as it wasnt crisp at all and the chunks of meat was huge. However, if you just think of it as some random dish, it tastes pretty good. The sarsa had good flavor and the chicken was cooked just right. The sago’t gulaman tasted like medicine. They put the green ai-yu jelly in it, which isn’t in the traditional sago gulaman drink and gave it a funky taste. I would not recommend getting that. Overall, this place is pretty cheap and gives a decent amount of food for the price. It’s a decent quick stop for lunch kind of place but if you are looking for a genuine Filipino experience, I wouldn’t come here to get a good idea of how traditional food is supposed to taste like as they aren’t quite on point.

One of my go to lunch spots when I’m at work. Two meat combo with soup and drink for $ 7.99. It says it includes a dessert but it’s a hit or miss when we get one. It’s kind of cafeteria style where you point at what you want. I never know what anything is other than adobo so whatever looks good I’ll get. A good variety on options to choose from. Never the same thing so it changes day to day. Plenty of pastries and bread sold here too. The flan was a little thicker than I’m use to but still tasty.

I go here once or twice a month and I love that you can get so much great Filipino food for a great deal. For breakfast, you can get rice, two sunny side up eggs, any choice of meat, soup, and a soft drink(or mango juice) for $ 6.99! WHAT A STEAL! The portions are huge! I always save some more for a later meal when I eat here. I also go here to grab flan or taho(sp?). Taho is this tofu dessert in a syrup with tapioca pearls. I really really love it. I’ve seen several other desserts and baked goods, but I haven’t had a chance to try them yet. The ladies are always super nice and don’t be afraid to ask them questions. I always ask several questions(What’s that? Is it spicy? What kind of meat is that?) and they are really patient trying to explain the dishes to me. I’ve taken my dad and my cousins all here. And, I’ve taken my dog here once and sat outside for lunch too. Overall, I think it’s a great quick and cheap spot to grab Asian food on OST!

This place is great! Very authentic and delicious! We came early and ate the breakfast combo which comes with a TON of food for just 7 dollars! All the meats are very good and there are flavorful vegetarian choices. The deserts and fresh juice are a plus. In a corner there is a bakery corner for all your carb cravings :)

I am disappointed today. Don’t get me wrong, i like your food. They are close to my family cooking. I go to your store first before going somewhere else but please when you say you are open for breakfast at 7am it is not 705am. If it happens once its ok but everytime i go to your store. Fine, but when you open the door at 705 yet you are still warming the pan for the eggs? And still going to set and brew the coffee? And your employee still half asleep? That is not business? So i was patient and forget about eggs and just get tapsi tosi and longsi without«log» for ‘itlog” which is egg. Yet the guy still charged me the same price. I was getting late sobi just paid and yeah its just money but it is the principle. No eggs no coffee for 3 orders of breakfast with NO discount. Tell me what you think? I am filipino and proud but business people please don’t make me embarrassed. Don’t let me down like this because when i say i like your place i meant it, i recommended you to more than 10 co workers to more than 20 friends and to more than. 50 relatives. Please correct your business by being close to appropriate. No one is perfect and that is understandable. Don’t worry this is a rate for service and the likes.

This place is a great place to pick up snacks, sweets and baked goods. They also have fresh hot food you can purchase either al a carte or as part of a meal. I cannot speak on this hot food, because I have never tried it. It looks good… I only come for ube desserts, mamon, pandesal, halo halo(great size). It’s hard to beat my apo’s desserts, but these do compete. My mom hated their siao pao and went as far as saying they were inedible; so skip these.

Came here for breakfast not knowing what to expect. I got some sort of pork dish with rice, a fried egg, and a little bit of soup. I thought a bakery would have a unique pinay breakfast but they were kind of more like a lunch place. I’ll give them another try but I know what to expect now.

I went here for breakfast twice in one week because there’s no other option on this side of the medical center for a quick, decently priced breakfast for the portion size. For $ 7.57, you get salted fish, two eggs, garlic rice, soup(WAY too oily for me), & calamansi. Calamansi is a highly flavorful lemonade. It seems more acidic compared to(for example) Minute Maid lemonade, but the garlic rice is so greasy that you need it. The salted fish is very good and exactly what I had in mind. The lady offered vinegar to me for an accompaniment, but I did not need this. I also later in the week ordered the tocino pork, and this was good as well. The meat is sweet, though not as sweet as Chinese people’s char siu(BBQ pork). Although I would consider this more of a lunch entrée, I didn’t really see anything else I wanted. Each time I went, I could not finish the food, and I probably eat enough for five starving children at breakfast. There is a sign that requires a $ 10 minimum for credit cards, but the woman took mine, even though I only spent $ 7.57. There are around 10 tables for sitting, and parking is free in a parking lot. I will probably return because of the closeness to a work site!

Yes Pugon, yes! They have everything from pandesal, mamon, ensaymada, siopao, to various kakanin like pichi pichi and kutsinta to even authentic dishes like dinuguan and pancit. I wanted to buy everything but I had a three hour drive back home and wasn’t sure if the cold siopao was going to make it. The pichi pichi(gelatinous dessert from cassava and coated in coconut) was perfect perfect. Not too sweet and just enough coconut-y texture. When I got home, I warmed up the ensaymada ube macapuno and the bread + sugar topping was just how I liked it. I tore it in half expecting beautiful filling, but dang, it was just bread! I thought I just got a bad one but nope. There were four little purple specks in it, like the size of my thumbnail. Ube scam!!! The macapuno also wasn’t very true macapuno. It was as if they took bits of borderline mature coconut shavings and sprinkled a little bit of it on top. They were far from Goldilocks standard as far as filling goes, but good enough if you like your ensaymada pretty plain. I will definitely hit Pugon up during my next visit when I’m craving some home-style Filipino desserts and food. There is a $ 10 minimum charge for credit and the stickers on their pastries are the expiration dates, not the price –_– duh…

Nothing will ever be as good as homemade filipino food, but if I’m not gonna have it homemade, then I’ll probably go here. This is the first filipino restaurant in Houston that I’ve been to where it has not been a buffet. So for me, that’s already a plus. But what is most appreciative about this place is that I feel at home. The service is so patient and so nice. They give you huge portions, and they are constantly cooking, so everything is pretty fresh. I had their dinaguan and their eggplant torta, and everything tastes great. If you are gonna order dinaguan, then make sure to ask for it in a separate bowl because it may mix with your other food. This combo also came with a free cup of soup and two small samples of dessert. You don’t get to choose any of those freebies. I ended my meal with the Halo Halo and this is, so far, the best place for it. I love my Halo Halo with Ube and Leche flan, and they even gave me extra for free! Also, this wasn’t your typical size; they gave me a 20 oz! The good thing about this location is that Red Ribbon and Jollibee are in the same center, enough for you to walk off your meal for another ;) Some of their products are a tad overpriced, so bring extra dollars if you want some desserts and snacks to bring home.

I came across this bakery/restaurant as I was headed to another place in the strip. The shop is small and quaint. Theres an entire wall with a large variety of bread. I opted for the ube bread. Its pretty much bread rolled up with an ube filling. The filling was delicious! Creamy and not too sweet. The bread itself was a little tough and took some time to chew. I also tried the red bean hopia. I didnt know what that was and the employee said it was a sweet bread. Doesn’t sound bad. The filling was good. Not too sweet. The outside was a little flaky and thats a plus. Overall, i enjoyed the hopia. There was a bunch of different Filipino food to choose from that was already cooked for you to order and go. I would go back to try authentic Filipino food next time. The people i saw there looked like they were enjoying it. Theres a large menu with half of it being sweets/breads/desserts and the other half being savory food, many different flavors of everything! The store was clean, and employees were nice. They don’t speak English well, but thats okay. If you go, bring someone whos familiar with everything, I’ll be back to try more things for sure!
