Omni Houston Hotel

This is a really nice hotel, the lobby, the reception area the staff and really nice clean rooms. I order room service and the food was pretty good. A few reasons for giving it 3 stars, self parking is $ 20 at night, one other thing is that, I wanted to get some drinks from the mini-​bar, the fridge was locked, so I called the front desk for the key and they told me they would bring it to the room. 30 minutes later we still didn’t have a key. So I called again, and they told me the same thing. I ended up getting the key 20 minutes after the second call. Other than that, the place was nice.

Slow to get in our room. Slow for bellman to bring our luggage. Key card to garage didn’t work x2. Lovely room and very spacious.

REALLY nice rooms, lobby, reception area. The biggest cons are: expensive paid parking is the only option ($ 20 per day for self park in the garage), if you book through priceline or expedia or an outside party you won’t get free wi-​fi and you’ll have to pay $ 10/​day for wi-​fi.
A plus is that they allow dogs! They also have a pretty field in the back where my sister was able to take her pre-​ceremony pictures on her wedding day… oh but some owners did not pick up their dog’s poop so the wedding coordinator stepped in it – yuck!

Did Easter brunch here and it was amazing! Great selection, good food, unlimited mimosas, kids had own buffet and great service! My family and I will be returning!

Easter brunch at the OMNI hotel is tradition for us. It is a fine hotel, to have Easter brunch it is very nice and extravagant. Oh, the food so much variety and freshness.

Since I absolutely HATE H-​town traffic, and am again a nominee of Houston Business Journal’s Top 25 Residential Real Estate Agents, I opted to stay at the host hotel, the Omni, since the breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. LOL.
Valet was a breeze and check in was really easy. I was on the fence about going to the bar or just ordering room service wine. Well, when I noticed the mini bar had half bottles of cabernet, that solved my dilemma! However, you have to request the mini bar key upfront or it will take about 20 minutes for it to be delivered to you.
The rooms are dated, like 1960’s-Brady-Bunch-style dated. I get it, I’m not moving in but I love a hotel that takes the time to get a facelift every now and then. My room did overlook the pool which is pretty at night, so that is nice.
The mini bar is well stocked with liquor & wine, and they do offer a good selection of snacks and Aqua Panna water.
The bathroom towels are soft, so that is nice! My big complaint is that they do not have shower gel. I have grown so accustomed to having that offered in every room at EVERY hotel and resort I have stayed at for the last several years, that I did not bring my own. Well that was a mistake, because now I have to use bar soap. Gross. I know, first world problems, right?
The water in the sink also didn’t get hot at all … lukewarm at best and that was after running it for a while.
The bed was ok but the pillows were foam and I had requested feather. I know, boo hoo …
Overall, a nice stay and I think they could get an extra star if they would renovate.

I stayed here for a business trip earlier this month for a two night stay. The staff were nice upon check-​in and the room was clean and luxurious. The bed was probably my favorite part… it was sooooo comfy that it made it hard to get up in the morning. I felt like I was lying on a cloud. My only gripe was that when housekeeping came to clean my room, they touched all of my skin care and cosmetic products in the bathroom. I had them lined up by my toiletry bag on the counter. (so it’s not like they were messy and sprawled out) When I came back, they had completely moved everything to another counter and organized it to their liking. I’m sure their intentions were good, but there is no need to touch my things when they aren’t in your way.

CONS
–took money from my account at reservation, but turned out it was only a «hold» that fell off later. I was under the impression I had already paid (not your fault, but it would have been nice if they’d mentioned it when I made the Rez)
–couldn’t swipe out of the garage multiple times– a problem when cars are behind you and the person on the intercom is unintelligable.
— long black hairs found in the bathroom
— water leak all over the bathroom floor– we figured it out after cleaning it up twice and griping at each other about making a mess showering
–TV didn’t work– already exhausted, undressed and settled in bed. Had to get redressed and call maintanace.
— key didn’t work on door. Had to wait to have security come let us in.
PROS: quick attentive staff when we reported issues, very nice bed/​linens, great spacious room and bathroom
OVERALL– nice hotel, but angry about the issues. We were only in Houston one night and had planned to go back out after coming back and changing that night. The garage access thing made is decide not to.

I stopped by this afternoon to purchase 3 spa packages ($ 280 each) from the Omni spa when i pulled up to the front of the hotel the valet guy said i had to move my car or that i would have to valet for $ 18! I explained that i was just going inside the spa buy the spa packages and be on my way 10−15min max… he couldn’t care less that i was about to go inside and spend close to $ 1000. I didnt even get another option… If im spending $ 1000 at your business the LEAST you can do is have the courtesy of holding my car.
Later I called to speak to Ashley (the manager on duty) so she did say she would address the issue with the front staff which is nice of her and she did explain to me that there was a self park option for $ 10 which just kinda made laugh… It’s not the price it’s the fact that you’re charging someone to basically park their car for less than 20min just to walk inside to spend more money. It’s ridiculous.
So I just went down the street and bought spa packages from #TheHoustonian and they didn’t try to hustle me for valet money! thanks #TheHoustonian!!!
PS: if you have friends staying here be ready to pay $ 10 – 18 bucks just to visit them.

This place is really nice. Older hotel on the south end of Houston. VERY clean and nice features in the rooms. All staff was very warm and friendly. Got a great view of Houston skyline in the distance. Only complaint is parking is kinda separated from hotel (unless you valet). Definitely recommend.

I wouldn’t want to stay here ever again. They never came to clean our room, we had to ask a housekeeper when she was coming because we were gone all day and came back to it still I cleaned. Yet they had grabbed our breakfast cart out. She was shocked we wanted it cleaned at all. What?!
So she came later that evening when we were gone for a wedding and we were sorely disappointed. Towels thrown on the counter tops, bed not entirely made, chairs not in their right spot (literally in front of the tv), toilet seat up and nothing cleaned — it was a mess! We complained and they gave us breakfast vouchers — we got in after midnight from a wedding with a toddler. We won’t be getting up for breakfast the next morning so thanks for nothing. So stupid. Give us something useful at least.
The rooms on arrival were nice but our hosts had left welcome notes and baskets and of course our room didn’t have one. Really?! Come on. Pay attention.
The pillows and bed were at least very comfortable and the view nice.
The only friendly staff were the valet. Eating in the restaurant was disappointing and the service was so unfriendly, as if we were interrupting their day by being there.
The boss needs to come in under cover and see what is going on with this place. What a disgrace!

We were sorely disappointed with the service at this hotel. We were gone from 10am-​3pm, plenty of time for house keeping. We got back to our room after a 5-​hour window and it hadn’t been cleaned. Our in-​laws’ room had t been cleaned either.
I found the house keeping staff and asked for them to clean both rooms. We were gone again from 6pm through midnight. We came back after the wedding to find that our bed had been made but the rest of the room had been left a disaster. Towels were just dropped on the counter, and nothing in the room was refreshed. The toilet was up and towels on the floor. Chairs not out back, nothing was repleneshed, not even the shampoo or soap.
I went to be manager on duty and he offered us a free breakfast voucher. At least that was some effort, but I should have never had to ask for them to clean… And given that I had to ask, it certainly should have been done. Sorely disappointed for a hotel of this caliber. Even time-​shares clean better.
We will probably not be returning to this hotel again.

Based on my previous experience, I was contacted by management and told I would receive a free night’s stay, and that a voucher would be sent to my home address. The manager’s name was «Eoin». Thanks Eoin! It’s now January 2016, and I have received Zip-​zilch-​nada in the form of a voucher. If I could give this place a real rating it would be «Stay Away at All Costs». This place is just plain insulting. Never again, Omni. Never again.

I would rate this Hotel below Zero. I was in the Hospitality business. I should just buy this Hotel and replace its staff immediately.
Go somewhere else, at least you will be treated with more sophistication and respect.
Avoid this place, I warned you.

I stayed at this location for 3 nights for a conference.
I stood in line for 20 minutes to check-​in at around 8:30PM. There were only 2 employees working the counter. The hotel knew about this large conference ahead of time yet it seemed like they didn’t adjust the number of staff members to meet the needs of a busy hotel.
During check-​in I was asked to provide a form of payment. I explained that my office manager faxed an authorization form. The front staff claimed to have not received it even though I had a soft copy of the fax confirmation.
After being checked in with my coworker we went up to our room to get ourselves settled. We were given a room with a king bed instead of a room with two queen beds like our reservation said.
We walked back downstairs, waited in line again for 20 minutes to change our room. We received no apology.
The beds are worn and uncomfortable .
If you are staying for one night, this location might be a good choice. If you are looking for good service and a comfortable stay, you may want to explore your options.

I wanted to update this review as I happened to visit the Omni again. I didn’t valet this time but noticed the staff was more professional and more diverse. I had breakfast there, I’m sure it was not a continental breakfast, I was introduced to a new breakfast syrup. Agave. What is this but the nectar of the Gods. I sampled this syrup liqueur on my bacon, juevos, fruits, and it was a breakfast interstellar. The hotel outside of breakfast was good, a lot of construction being done in the building makes for an uncomfortable work environment, but they try to make up for it in hospitality.

This was the hotel I selected for my wedding guests, because Black Swan. Much regret resulted, but hey, at least everyone remained safe and sound (but ever the hot messes) during the after party and beyond.
Mother-​in-​law was so kind as to negotiate a group rate for the guests with an on-​site salesperson. This required extensive back and forth, waiting, etc. — which sure, is par for the course. However, I became aware of a cheaper rate (through Groupon and the hotel’s own website) during the end of the negotiation process (only $ 10 a night cheaper, but hey, that’s like a well drink at Black Swan, right?). My mother-​in-​law notified the Omni salesperson — she refused to price match the group rate as that particular rate came with perks, in that Omni staff would deliver goodie bags, we provided, to everyone whom paid the group rate and we had the option of reserving the veranda for brunch the next day. Also, the group rate entitled her to issue slips of paper to the guests, which would permit her to then pay for everyone’s breakfast the next day. Additionally, if a certain number of rooms were booked under the group rate, I would receive a free night (s) or something. For merely contracting for the group rate, I received a free basic upgrade? I thought group rates were usually discounted, but my bad??? As such, number of guests decided to not book under the group rate after sharing amongst themselves, that regular reservation rate was cheaper. Good for them, I would have done the same thing.
Omni booked me for only the wedding night, but Mother-​in-​Law requested the reservation be extended into the night before. Surprise! When I attempted to check in Friday afternoon, there was no such reservation for me. GREAT, it’s not like I wasn’t already antsy and didn’t have a rehearsal dinner to rush to. The salesperson admitted the error, but unfortunately all the upgraded suites (I don’t recall the name of the room) were occupied, so I was sent to a more basic (still nice) room. This all required more time to sort out than I had budgeted for, so needless to say, I was more than just a little flustered and looking quite unkempt at rehearsal dinner.
It was at that point that the salesperson offered to modify the group rate into the $ 10 cheaper rate, presumably as a concession to the error. Not sure that this discount was in fact applied to the group-​rate booked guests’ final bill. I do know that one of my guests, originally booked outside the rate, inquired to see if she could then be added to the group booking (she wanted to potentially help us upgrade to a free room) once it was reduced, and the front desk told her «no.»
Sure enough the next day arrived, as it tends to do, and I called to inquire about the earliest availability of the upgraded suite (I wonder if my «free» upgrade would have been hypothetically extended to Friday night, not sure). The front desk said they didn’t know when my upgraded room would be ready but I was encouraged to pack up all my things so that hotel staff could relocate it should my room become available during my hair appointment. So I returned from my hair appointment, more than three hours later, and sure enough, all my belongings had remained untouched. I called the front desk to informed them that I wouldn’t need to move into the upgraded suite because I absolutely needed to start getting ready, so please cancel. However, they insisted that their staff was on their way to relocate everything, just sit tight! Thirty or more minutes later, I was still lingering in my original room, frantically cursing my dumb luck. My sister-​in-​law stopped by and noted my anxious and frazzled demeanor and unmade-​up face. She called the front desk to sternly chastise them for delaying this supposed relocation.
Quite frankly, that all sucked, A LOT. The stereotype/​expectation is based in fact — brides be running around like their heads been severed on their wedding days, AS IS. This kerfuffle had me in full blown panic-​like-​hell mode. And to think I had purposefully avoided alcohol up util this point so I could be «on point» with my make-​up. HA! I was honestly fighting back tears, because hello, I’m neurotic me, AS IS. I ended up hastily slapping on my make-​up ignoring my maid of honor’s suggestion that I take me time because, what, are they going to start the wedding without me?! But we were «late» based upon the wedding planner’s schedule and mann — I was pretty dissatisfied with how unblended and clown-​like my face ended up. Stress management fail!
We did receive a lovely champagne bottle and nice note at the end of the evening and everyone seemed to have a good hot mess of a time at Black Swan, yours truly included. However, overall this was an unnecessarily stressful and disappointing for both my mother-​in-​law and me. Like recounting the experience is steadily increasing my blood pressure. I will have a drink right now in fact. No thanks to you Omni, 2 stars for you!

I was very pleased with my stay here. The staff was friendly and attentive. The hotel seems to be pretty busy as there were two separate weddings and a conference going on during my stay, however the stay was still enjoyable. The pool was beautiful and very peaceful. Would definitely stay here again.

Unknowingly, we booked a business trip during one the of the busiest conference weekends in Houston — OTC. The room rate was astronomical at $ 600/​night! I assume that’s close to triple the regular rate. SMH. The hotel was nice though and I was impressed with the size of my king room and bathroom. The fitness center was also impressive. It was bigger and better than a lot of hotel or even apartment complex gyms. There were a lot equipment, free weights, mats, towels, water, mirrors and windows that overlooked the pool and outdoor areas. I had the buffet breakfast one morning with my team of 5. Who would have thought we would need a reservation at 7:30am at a hotel dining room? The place was packed! They were able to accommodate us but seriously every table was occupied and we needed to make sure we would clear out by a certain time before the next reservations. In the evening we went to the bar to debrief, watch sports and have a drink of course. I tried a Manhattan they had featured and ugh… it was painful to choke down. I had a nightcap of coffee with baileys that suited me much better.
Overall it was a nice hotel and I would stay there again. But it’s definitely not a $ 600 per night hotel.

Good hotel with convenient location (based on my one trip to Houston). It was less than a mile from where I had a meeting scheduled and less than 20 miles from the airport.
Staff was nice and the lobby had what appeared to be a nice bar/​lounge. I didn’t stop there to try it because I got in late and needed to get in some prep time for my meeting the next day.
I ordered room service for breakfast and was underwhelmed. The «Greek Yogurt» would have been $ 1 off the shelf at a grocery store. The bagel was equally unimpressive.
I encountered an HVAC issue that appears to be common south of the Mason-​Dixon Line during what passes for winter. The room was about 45 degrees (okay it was really 55 – 60 I estimate) without any means to make it warmer. The HVAC had only one mode: cold air blown into all parts of the room at all times. The thermostat controls indicating that it could be made warmer were like the «close door» button on an elevator, for decoration only. My only option was to power it off. So dress warmly if you stay here.
