NTB-National Tire & Battery

I was impressed with the service over phone when i called to reschedule my appt but tgat is where satisfactiom ended… i went in for oil change and tie rotation. Asked them to look at a tire that was losing air to see if they could repair it they said they would then let me drive off without even putting air in the tire for me. Needless to say I will not go back they were rude and seemed more worried in a break than helping me.

Honestly, I’m not planning on coming back here. The customer service was lacking. I went in for a simple oil change and they came up with all of these things that were wrong with my car. To be specific, close to $ 2,000 worth of repair estimates that they wanted to quickly rattle off to me and non-​nonchalantly ask me if I wanted to take care of it all that day. I got the service tech to show me what was wrong with my car and while I did see some wear and tear in some of the areas he was showing me, it didn’t make sense to replace all of the things he was suggesting. I usually take my car to Cliff’s Car Tech on 529 for any major repairs and Cliff is has always been straight and honest with me. In fact, he had just looked at my car two weeks previously and did my inspection and did not find anything wrong with my car. (If he were after my money, then I’m sure he would have come up with something.) So I called him up after I left NTB, and he said he would bet me anything that there was nothing wrong with my car and that this is what these types of places do to make money. I mean heck, they offer financing… that should be a red flag. Oh, and with all the estimates NTB gave me they said there was some wiggle room with the pricing. Um, okay… that is fishy to me. Just quote me a fair price to begin with!
So anyhow, I told Cliff from Cliff’s Car Tech, that he was the only one who is touching my car from now on. I don’t know why I never thought to go to him for oil changes and other maintenance services, but now he is handling everything for my cars from now on. Almost 3 weeks ago, I bought 4 new tires about 3 weeks ago along with the protection plan that covers rotate, balance & flat repair for the mileage of the tires (in my case 90,000 miles). I also told them to replace a brake light bulb because my repair shop is on the other side of town & I didn’t want to risk getting a ticket on the way over there.
There were only 2 other people there when I got there so they got right on my car. About 30 minutes later, a gentleman came in & told me the 2 belts had cracks & needed to be replaced, it needed a tune-​up, brake fluid & coolant fluid exchange & the valve cover gaskets were leaking. I told him not to do any of the work because I would take it to my repair shop & because I’ve had issues in the past with them doing repair work on my cars. 1 time they told me that basically my car needed a new engine so I took it to my repair shop & it only cost $ 200.00 to fix my car. Another time, I took it in on Sunday morning to have them replace the brake pads because my husband didn’t have the right tools to do it. After I paid & left, the car was worse than it was when I took it in. I looked & the brake pads are still in the box sitting on the floor board untouched. When I took it right back (they were the only place open & I couldn’t drive my car the way it was), they gave me some crap explanation & then told me it needed rotors. They got pissed because I went next door to Auto Zone & bought the rotors.
So my car sits for over an hour (I assume because I told them not to do any of the additional work).
Then a gentleman comes in & tells me the toe is out, it needs an alignment & it cost $ 89.95 for a 1 year alignment & $ 139.95 for a 2 year alignment. I told him not to do it because I would take it to my repair shop & have them do it.
So my car sits again (I again I assume because I told them not to do the alignment).
Mind you, the whole time I’m there, they are telling every person in that waiting room with me, their car needs additional work.
So when I go to pay (3 hours later), I asked why it was more than I was quoted. I was told it was because it cost $ 31.13 to replace the brake bulb discounted from the $ 49.50 they normally charge. They gentleman gave me a printed estimate of the work they said my car needs & told me to let them know when I wanted to have the work done. He got pissy with me when I told him I would have my repair shop do the work.
Fast forward to today, the first chance I’ve had to get my Dad & repair shop to check my car out. I went to my Dad (he had a successful auto repair business for over 20 years when my parents retired). Mind you, I’ve been praying every night that the belts on my car wouldn’t break & leave me stranded before I could get the car to the repair shop. I showed my Dad the estimate from NTB & he said it was expensive for the work they said needed to be done. After thorougly checking my car out, my Dad said the first thing he found is that my tires had 40lbs. of air in them when they should have 35lbs. maximum. My Dad said I was lucky my tires hadn’t popped with that much air in them. My Dad said my car has 1 belt that doesn’t need to be replaced, not 2 that NTB said needed replacing. He also said that the only way to tell if a car needs a tune-​up is to drive it (which NTB didn’t) & a car doesn’t run smooth (like my car does) if it needs a tune-​up. My Dad also said if the valve cover gaskets were leaking, there would be oil on the driveway (there isn’t). My Dad said at most, my car may need an alignment & told me to take it to my repair shop.
My next stop was my repair shop. I show the owner the NTB estimate so they thorougly check my car out. All they found was my car needed was an alignment & only charged me $ 60.00 which is $ 30.00 cheaper than the minimum it would cost at NTB. The owner also told me he charges $ 10.00 to replace a bulb.
I know I am only 1 person so this location isn’t going to care they’ve lost a long time, loyal customer with many family & friends on social media.
It sickens me that NTB tried to scam me & others (from what I saw). I will have my repair shop rotate & balance my tires so I won’t be using the protection plan I paid for because NTB will never touch my car again! If I were to take it in to have the tires rotated & balanced, I wouldn’t put it past them to break something on purpose to get alot more money out of me because I won’t let them do any repair work.
So PLEASE BEWARE of this place. Please get a 2^nd or 3^rd opinion before letting them do any repair work so you don’t pay lots of money for something that doesn’t need to be done.

I’ve never had an issue with them before. They are nice and take care of me when I come to get my oil change done. I had to replace a stud/​nut and they helped me get it fixed. Only downside is the wait but I guess that’s everywhere.

I went to NTB for a flat tire repair and the new service manager Terry was very patient, attentive, and made sure I was in and out in a timely manner. I really think he is a great turn around to the the previous service!

After having a bad experience with the NTB on Wilcrest & I-​10, I decided to go to another NTB today to have my oil changed. It was longggggggg overdue.
The guy that helped me was extremely funny and apologized for the incident that occurred at the other location.
I had my oil changed, wiper blades changed, and received a free alignment check. The transaction was quick and easy. The only downer on my experience was that I had to wait two hours. I didn’t realize how many people didn’t work on Fridays and the place had customers constantly coming in for service!
Compared to the NTB on Wilcrest & I-​10 and a few Firestone locations that I’ve been to, this place actually had a waiting room equipped with a TV, vending machines, and public restrooms.
