Neon Boots Dancehall & Saloon is Houston’s LGBT country and Western dancehall inside the Historic Esquire Ballroom.

Neon Boots is not only a Gay bay, we are a bar for everyone, we don’t discriminate and we ask that you don’t either. We are located in the historic Esquire Ballroom, the place of legends like Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, George Jones, Charlie Pride, Ernest Tub, Jim Reeves and many more.

We offer free parking and daily Happy Hour from 4pm-​9pm daily. We have many events such as Bands, Karaōke, Bingo, Steak Night, Free dance classes on Thursday nights, and much more! Saturday nights we have a $ 5 cover from 9pm-​1am. We prefer you come country (cowboy hat & Wranglers/​Cinch jeans), but come as you are. It is a very casual and laid back atmosphere. Shoes are required.

History

Established in 2013.

The once thriving ballroom known as the Esquire Ballroom is now Neon Boots Dancehall and Saloon. Built in 1955 by Raymond Proske, the Esquire was home to many well known act of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Most notable is Willie Nelson. Another well know performer was Patsy Cline, in fact the Broadway musical «Always…Patsy Cline» takes part in the historical bar. any other infamous acts performed at the club including, George Jones, Charlie Pride, Jim Reeves and many more. Neon Boots has set aside a separate bar dedicated to this history called the Esquire Room. The room showcases various performers and Esquire memorabilia.

Since the Esquire closed in 1995, it has been several other ventures and bars that have come and gone. The new owners have completely restored the building and upgraded its features. The new dancehall features a huge dance floor and performance stage, six bar stations, table service, expansive outdoor area with deck and patio. The owners also anticipate

Kevin is one of the partners that currently owns Neon Boots. The current owners had a dream and after their old bar was closing they decided to open a gay country western club in Houston, TX. Kevin and the current owners hope that Neon Boots can be a place where everyone can have a good time, make friends, and enjoy life.

Best dancing in town 730 line dance lessons in Thursday’s and first and third Saturday’s. Couples dancie lessons at 830 every Thursday. Bingo on Wednesdays and Latino night Friday’s. Country on Saturdays. Best country bar in Texas.

I been going to neon boots for awhile because it’s close to my house and I enjoy the music they played but lately I don’t know what’s going on with the music but it sucks. I went last night and I asked the DJ oh that DJ who was formally was a bar tender there and now he is a DJ to play a song for me. He have me this look like I was on drugs lol and he said to write it the song down on a piece of paper so I did and I put 3 dollars in his tip jar that is locked now lol. I handed the note to him and once again he gave me that look like he was annoyed that I ask him to play the song. He never played my song I waited for over and hour to see if maybe he would play it. Next thing I see the DJ is dancing on the dance floor and they is no one at the DJ station. I was like ok so I was pissed and I left. I like neon boots because it’s close to my house but I don’t need that queeny attitude from the DJ. They need to invest in getting good Dj’s that really they their job serious and not put incompetent people to handle the music.

Not a bad country music bar, went on a Saturday, mostly gay men, a few lesbians. But not much dancing. A lot of people on the sidelines watching. The bartender didn’t know how to make some drinks, but they were $ 3 so whatever.
I think they should play more group line dancing songs to get more people out there. There are quite a few tables, 2 bars, and a large dance floor.

Heavy handed on the drinks, WoW. Good drinks but you only need a few to get your drunk on. Came for couples dance lessons. Still waiting to see what happens. Line dancing is on point, couples lessons not so much. Thumbs down, or more people need to come out and dance.

Yeehaw! I finally found a place to fulfill my weekend nightlife. I’m becoming a regular on Friday nights. It is advertised as a Latin Night, but they don’t just play Latin songs. My first time here, I stayed from 7 pm to 1 am and witnessed variety of entertainment.
Neon Boots Dancehall & Saloon is the most diverse club I could find. Talking about diversity, there are men/​women, gay/​straight, young/​old, multi-​ethnicity crowd, interracial couples and music from country to popular genre in English and Spanish. It was fun to watch people moving from Boot Scootin line dance to electric slides to cupid shuffle to cha cha slides like no big deal. The disc jockeys really know how to work the crowd. I don’t think you’ll see me on the dance floor anytime soon. But I plan to take some line dance lessons before I step my own toes.
I spent most of my evening in the Esquire Room, where karaōke took place on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The karaōke jockey is skilled to make you feel welcome. I’m so amazed with his resource because he could find any songs from his online library. If there were no one singing, he’ll pick up the mic and entertain everyone in the room. Unlike other karaōke bars, I never felt out of place here as have to worry about competing with highly skilled singers. I select my songs and practice with my baritone voice beforehand. So, I won’t make a fool of myself.
When I first heard about Neon Boots a couple of years ago, I thought it was just a gay bar far away from the typical Montrose district. I was wrong. There are so many different venues during any operating week: Bingo night, steak night and dance lessons. Occasionally, few non-​profit groups use their spaces for fundraising activities. No wonder Neon Boots has been recognized as the biggest and best dance club by many local publications.
If I had an out-​of-​town guest, I’ll include Neon Boots Dancehall as the final destination. There are more culture experiences to share under one roof as nowhere else on Earth.

Finally made it to Houston to dance at the Neon Boot, it didn’t disappoint. Great music, great dancing, great staff and great friends made for an amazing night for this Austinite. I will be back for sure and soon.

I am not a go out all night gal anymore. I am an afternoon and happy hour drinker/​bar goer these days. The wife and I have been meaning to come here since it opened. Finally we headed that way on a Sunday afternoon with some friends to play darts and have a cocktail or two.
One of our favorite bartenders from our days of going out in the Montrose is there in the afternoon. So it was nice to have a familiar face to order our beer mug sized mixed drinks. She threw in our designated driver’s Coke for free! Nice touch.
Since we were there before the crowds arrived, all the bars were not open. There is a large one in the front with three registers… so I’m thinking three bartenders during rush. There’s a beer bar on the side and another bar in the back. Also, along the west wall there is a smaller little lounge area that is closed off from the main bar. Likely much quieter and more intimate from the dancehall. It’s called The Esquire after the original name of the club.
Bathrooms up front and in the back. Not many stalls for women… but we were there early in the day and didn’t have to wait.
Darts and pool tables, a BEAUTIFUL patio outback for those lovely afternoons (and smokers). That’s right, the club is smoke free! Wow! Love that! Lots of places to sit — check out the couches shaped like boots — and stand around the dance floor.
This bar is clean. Super clean. I had several drinks on my tab, including a double and a shot of Jack and walked out for $ 25.
I understand they have Bingo night and Tejano night and many of Houston’s gay social/​community groups hold their meetings there.

Owned by former BRB regulars. The dance floor is huge and ready for some boot scootin’. Except for the last stragglers of men’s bars along Fairview, there really isn’t any true gay bar left for middle aged folks who like to actually dance with their partners.
Not to say that the clientele is old! We saw a ton of young men come and go through the afternoon. But as a middle aged gal who used to enjoy The Ranch and The Barn. This is reminiscent of fun times at both those establishments.

Quite possibly one of the most amazing dance halls not just in Texas, but in the entire country.
You have to see it and experience it to believe it. There’s a large dance floor where you can dance in-​line en masse, or whirl around with a partner in a cowboy hat. The crowd is mixed, genuine, unpretentious, and welcoming to all. Drinks aren’t terribly overpriced and bartenders are fast and friendly.
Don’t get turned off by the full lot out front — parking overflows onto the highway out front, and there are also sheriffs on patrol.
For an added bit of nostalgia and a completely different — if almost posh — vibe, check out the Esquire lounge which is part of the establishment.

Last night I brought a coworker to dance and we had the worst experience of our life. They partook in the dance lessons, which were mediocre at the best. When they went to open dance we were asked not to do advance turns and then asked to leave the dance floor. After that I was cut off by one of the bartenders after 2 beers. The bartender told my co-​workers that if you were with him that they should close their tabs as well. At that point I wanted to take to the manager/​owner, which I asked for but the bartender would not retrieve. Once finding the owner of the bar by asking local patrons, we talked to her and she did some «investigations.» While she was doing that a member of the local dance team told my coworker that we f**ked up and then blew smoke in her face. The owner came back and told us that we were in the wrong and that we had drinks on the dance floor, which we didn’t, they were on the rail where everyone else puts their drinks. Then she went on to tell us that it is okay if a patron blew smoke in our face because we are in the smoking section of the bar (outside). I would not recommend this place and will not be setting foot back in the bar again, unless I get an apology from the bar and all of its owners!

Friendly staff, nice dance floor, variety of music (current country hits, classic country and some Tejano thrown in), parking and reasonable prices make it nice for all ages of adults. Primarily «gay» but definately «straight friendly».
Sunday afternoon evening, usually have food and some games — but do need real horseshoe pits — maybe soon?
Advantages is that due to its location, parking is good, the have the parking area patrolled and as long as you give their «greeter» (a very friendly pit bull) a pet or two, you’ll do fine.
Oh BTW — about the only way to get out of here without having somebody have said «hi» is to intentionally avoid folks.

This place is way cool. Extremely diverse, gay, straight, lesbian… all are welcomed here. But the cowboy country eye candy is the best! Hot ass MEN who know how to dance! The Round-​Up in Dallas was the only place for that for decades. Looks like there’s a new sheriff in town!

Finally a country bar again. This time bigger, newer and better. This place is huge! If you took the rainbow flag off the wall you would not know this is a gay bar. There is an incredible mix of people: gay, straight, men, women and those somewhere in between.
The drink prices are less than normal for a gay bar which is 1⁄3 the price of drinks at straight bars.
Unlike the old BRB and others bars in the «gayberhood» there is a large lighted parking lot with real Harris County sheriffs on patrol. On the weekends the lot does fill up but there is parking on both sides of the highway.
There are four bars for service. On Saturday nights after 10 there is a bit of a wait because of the crowds. All of the bartenders are friendly. They have started serving a pretty good variety of wines in the Esquire Room.
There are free dance lessons (line and couples) on Thursday nights starting at 7:30. The instructors and fun and there are lessons for people of all levels.
There were some snaggs when it first opened but that is to expected. Plumbing issues resolved. A/​C blowing cold and more staff.
If you want to sit at tables drink and chat with friends, lean on the railings and watch the dancing, shoot pool or darts or wear a new hole in the bottom of your boots, this place is the right place.
Best of all, no «plastic people» here. They stay on Pacific street.

I still can’t believe this opened in Spring Branch. The area desperately needed an lgbt bar, and such a nice bar it is. Very down home vibe, unpretentious, friendly people. All walls of life mix and mingle on the dance floor. Wear your best boots or come as you are and have a beer. Can’t wait to try the dance lessons. Parking is free but can get crowded. Each time I’ve come here I had to park across the street along the highway, it’s no big deal.

They don’t staff the place considering how large it is and how crowded it gets. They ask you to throw your used toilet paper into a trashcan, not the toilet. And of course no one does so it smells like a backed up sewer. Took me 20 minutes standing at a bar to close my tab, and forget getting a drink quickly. Here’s an idea, instead of having 3 employees policing the billiards tables to make sure no one sets their drink on them, COVER THEM and use those employees as bartenders.

It has a nice open space and a really big dance floor. I went on opening night and it was crowded so I hope some of the problems I ran into aren’t normal (the A/​C wasn’t working right and it was so hot we had to leave, waited over 45 min for a beer, had to park along the highway because there wasn’t enough parking). It is also kind of far from downtown and the other bars.
I’m looking forward to some of the dance lessons and checking it out again. It looks like it’s going to be awesome.
