Nails & Spa of Bunker Hill

This place was such an great nail salon. I took my friend recommendation to give this place a shot and it didn’t let me down. The place was well organized with simple decoration and plenty of space and chairs. Their service was professional. I tried their deluxe manicure and was so love it. It was really cheap with such a five stars service. Definitely, I will be back soon.

Love this place. I’m sold. They give the best massages with your mani pedi hands down. It’s not close to home so I go on my way home from work. It’s right next to HEB too so it’s convenient to grab anything I need with only one stop.

First time here since I just moved to Bunker Hill, but decided to give this place a chance since it has good reviews. Good atmosphere and I was offered a bottle of water while I was getting my manicure. I completely recommend the technician Cindy. She was quick to remove my old shellac and she has great attention to detail. Walked in and left 45 minutes later with a great shellac mani.

Linda did an AMAZING job on my nails! She repaired a poorly done nail job and my nails look wonderful!

They didn’t okay job on my French manicure. Upon closer inspection the edges were rough but overall the ladies were super nice and I enjoyed my time there. They woyld have gotten 4 stats but the reason they only get 3 stars is because I requested a mani pedi from the front for myself and my husband but the front desk guy must have forgotten because they only did the pedis until I asked. So 15 minutes later they were scrambling to get people to do our manis.

There are so many nail salons in Houston, it’s hard to pick a new one. This one is right at the HEB store, so convenient on many levels. It’s clean inside, soothing music, NO TV (thank you), and a pleasant experience. I noticed some other patrons were offered water; I was not. Maybe they are regulars; I am not. All the manicurists are Vietnamese. I have no complaints about the manicure, spa pedicure, or anything. It just wasn’t anything outstanding, either.

I’ve been coming to this location for about 2 years and I love it! The ladies are super sweet here and do a great job.
I always get the deluxe pedicure. I like the one here because you get all the services in one pedi. They do the hot wax. Hot stones. Steam towels. Sugar scrub and massage. You can’t beat that especially for the prices here. They are very reasonable.
You don’t need to make a reservation here either which is great. Every time I do a walk in I get seated immediately. They do get crowded on the weekend between 10 – 12 so avoid those times if you can.

Best nail salon in Houston for sure! I drive all the way from Katy just to see Van and Linda. It’s a little over priced but that’s expected the closer you get into town. It’s very clean & they always provide a TRUE manicure or pedicure. Other places I’ve gone to skip you on exfoliating & massage but they don’t spare any part. Linda does an awesome French manicure & Van is one of the sweetest women I’ve ever met! All of the girls seem to get along very well & treat each other with respect. The guy at the front (assuming the owner) is very efficient & will get you in without waiting very long without an appointment. I think one time my appointment got switched up and he was VERY apologetic. I’ve tried other manicurist & haven’t ever been disappointed. I would & do recommend this place to anyone!

I love spending time with Linda! She does my nails, waxes, and gives me a facial. I feel pampered and am always happy with the results. I definitely recommend Nails & Spa of Bunker Hill!

Had a mani/​pedi, even upgraded to a deluxe mani with massage. The pedi was ok but the foot massage was painful. The mani was ok, also often painful, & the arm/​shoulder massage I paid extra for wasn’t worth it – it was barely a massage! I don’t know what they did to my finger nails, but the polish has peeled off only 4 days later & many of my nails are bubbling/​peeling (nails themselves, not the polish). It was an ok experience for a last minute & convenient mani/​pedi, but I’ve had better quality for less money at other, equally convenient places. It’s unlikely I’ll return to this location.

Came in here Saturday morning for a quick shellac mani. I was in and out and my nail tech, Kourtney did a great job. Professional clean and lots of techs available so I didn’t wait but about 5mins before I was seated. Will be back if I need my nails done. It was about $ 35 for a shellac mani, which is the norm for the Houston area.

I really like this place. They do a great job and do it right the first time. You never have to wait very long either. I’ve been here multiple times, helped by Kourtney and Lori, both women have done excellent jobs as well! The facials are nice and the mani/pedi’s are great!

I finally found a 5 star nail location for artificial nails! I called ahead and made a same day appointment. Lori was ready for me when I got there. She was friends and professional and gave me the best nail refill I’ve ever gotten. I complained that the last place I went to made my nails too thick and too wide. She spent extra time making sure they were perfect… my nails were done in 45 minutes. Flawless paint job too!

After coming here for a couple years I’m finally fed up with this place. I won’t be coming back.
Here are the pros:
Convenient location for me. I’ve only had a problem walking in for service once on a Saturday when they were super busy. I usually go on weekday afternoons and have no problems walking in. There are a few very good technicians who do a great job and make me feel comfortable. Appears generally pretty clean.
Cons:
Service is inconsistent between technicians. You will get a totally different experience depending on who you get and what kind of mood they are in. Several times I have left less than satisfied and noticed peeling skin on my feet still later that night. Most of the techs give awful massages. Today I went mainly for the massage and seriously it was like 30 seconds per leg with the $ 38 deluxe pedicure. I have been hurt almost every time from digging too hard under my nails, cutting my nail all the way to the quick, or cut with the trimmers around my cuticles.
The final straw today was that the tech I got was talking on her phone when she started trimming and did NOT get out clean new tools. I demanded she get new clean ones. This should be standard no-​brainer here. And from then she was rude and making comments to the tech next to her and laughing, and also talking on her phone during my service. I got a one minute massage. Then she kept asking me if I was sure I wanted the polish color I picked. I finally said pick something else then I dont care. She had some orange polish and I said it was fine. She finished and she sat me at the dryer and gave me my check. After the dryer was finished I looked at my toes as I always do before I leave and it looked like a 5 year old painted them. Polish all over my skin and part of my big toe didn’t even have polish on it. I flagged her down and made her fix it, but come on… What am I paying you for?
On top of all this. The atmosphere there is kind of uncomfortable. Their chairs are in two rows facing each other so you have to avoid starring and making eye contact with the women across from you. All the girls who work there are looking over their shoulders and paying attention to other techs around them instead of focusing on their client. The man who works the front is pretty friendly with the clients but I don’t think the techs like him or want him watching what’s going on.
I just feel like for $ 38 plus tip of my hard-​earned money I should be walking out feeling like I was welcome, feel pampered, not be injured, and my feet should look great for at least a few days.
It’s unfortunate for the few really good people working there, but most of the techs are just not ready for the level of service they are trying to provide.

I love getting my nails done here! They’re are super friendly and very professional. With a wide variety of nail polish and shellac they have the perfect color for every occasion. I have yet to find a nail salon as friendly and accommodating as this one. I also get my waxing done here and am very pleased. I recently made the discovery of colored gel powder and I’ve got to say that I LOVE IT!

$ 32 for Shellac Gel Nails seems kind of high to me, though this is my first time. It included a brief arm massage.
Experience: I was pressured to pick a color immediately. In retrospect, I would not have chosen the color that I did (#590) if I had more time to look at the selection. I felt so rushed that I even lost my credit card somewhere between there and the drive home.
Some fingers seems shinier than the others. I’m not sure why.

This is my new nail spot. I called at 10:30 this morning and they got me in for an appointment at 11! I got there and only had to wait for about 3 minutes. I seriously had the best pedicure of my life — I think her name was Charleen or something similar, I wish I had written it down. She took so much time to scrape my callouses and got all the dirt from under my nails it was amazing. I got solar nails put on as well. Chris did my hands, he suggested the pearl instead of the typical white tips and they turned out amazing. Both the technicians were super friendly and the whole experience was so relaxing. Absolutely worth every penny.

I have been going to this place on and off for 4 years — (sometimes I go without acrylics so I don’t need to go as much when I’m au natural.)
The location is great because its close to my house, and usually they are able to accommodate you at any time in terms of walk in appointments. Which is the primary reason I kept returning in spite of the inconsistent results and the lack-​luster service.
One of the technicians lives in our neighborhood and knows my husband (and his mother, and his sisters) — oh — did I mention that my husband is Vietnamese? (that fact will come in handy shortly if you continue to read this review).
So the straw that broke the camel’s back was when I walked in on a Saturday afternoon to get a full spa treatment — mani, pedi, eyebrow wax, and neck massage. After all, I would be getting married in the next few days and needed the full works.
The owner always recognizes me and greets me warmly when I walk in — as he does with most of the patrons. I told him what I wanted and he communicated (incorrectly) to the technician who would be doing my pedicure.
My husband (then fiancée’) showed up shortly thereafter to say hello and spent a few minutes with me before leaving. He was telling the technician (in Vietnamese) about our upcoming wedding in Jamaica and after he left, the technician asked me how long we had been engaged… small talk and it seemed to be going well.
It went downhill very quickly when I asked the technician to do a small design on my pedicure — maybe a couple of wedding bands or something cute. The wedding bands didnt’ look like wedding bands at all — it looked more like an infinity symbol and it wasn’t very noticeable since I was doing a French pedicure.
So, I asked her to instead do a «cherry blossom» design — I love the flowers and they are small and delicate — which was what I wanted.
The neighboring technician (who lives in our neighborhood and knows my husband and his family) said something to my technician in Vietnamese — and they all died laughing and continued to laugh after that. The lady doing my pedicure said she couldn’t do that but someone else would be able to — so I was cool with that — no big deal.
We moved over to the manicure station so they could do a full set of acrylics. Then, the technician who was doing my pedicure came over to wax my eyebrows. While applying the wax, she said «you know — the other lady said ‘if she is marrying a Vietnamese man why she want a Japanese flower on her foot.»
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I admit it, I flipped my lid. I explained to her that I didn’t give a good g**amn what COUNTRY the flower is in, I happen to LIKE the flower and I think its PRETTY and that is why I want it. I’m very **ing aware of the fact that one has nothing to do with my husband’s country of origin (nor should it matter — he’s Vietnamese, I’m American, and we married in Jamaica — who CARES.)
The man who was doing my manicure was laughing and they all thought I was such a hoot –at which point they actually drove me to tears. I literally had tears streaming down my face while he was doing my manicure — pathetic.
I’m not a bridezilla, and I am a pretty stable person. But their cattiness and rudeness was very ill timed given the circumstances and also — wanting to really pamper myself after a week long of stressing over last minute wedding details — I expected more from the establishment that I had been loyal to over 4 years.
The technician came back over to ask if I still wanted the design and I told her NO — I didn’t want anyone else touching me there and if it hadn’t been for the fact that I had acrylics on my nails I would have walked out immediately.
I’ll never EVER go back.
If you think these places aren’t talking about you in their own language think again.
Shame on them — and shame on me for giving them 4 years of my business.
One Star for the fact that they are licensed, and somewhat clean and have talented technicians — albeit very RUDE and disrespectful to the patrons.

Now that I live on another side of town and I’m dancing both days of the weekend, it’s hard for me to find the time to go to my favorite mani/​pedi place, Avalon on Shepherd. But Avalon isn’t the only place that can do nails, I admit. Thanks to my myriad trips to the HEB on Bunker Hill, I knew Nails & Spa of Bunker Hill was just down the road from me. So I walked in on a Wednesday afternoon post-​working day and was seated immediately for my (much needed and horribly overdue) mani-​pedi.
I was given a menu of options to choose from, and I chose the basic pedi at $ 25. (I believe the basic mani is $ 13.) Don’t expect this «basic» pedicure to just be a polish change – it included a sugar scrub, massage and hot towel treatment. My technicians were nice and were receptive when I told them my shins were a little sensitive, thanks to an active life. The massage chair was probably the best I’ve experienced, and that’s saying a lot! The only quibble I had was that the water wasn’t even lukewarm, and when I told the staff they didn’t seem to mind much.
I don’t know if I’ve settled down and found my match just yet, so I’ll probably try another few nail salons before I make myself a regular (ahem, Ora-​Bay Ora-​Bay). But Nails & Spa of Bunker Hill wasn’t half-​bad at all. In fact, I’m looking at my polish from a week ago and it’s still presentable and largely chip-​free – and I’m not exactly nice to my nails with my regimen of dishwashing and cooking. We’ll see what the verdict is after my investigation into Spring Branch-​area nail salons concludes.
