Specialties
*Directions for Parking: When on Jefferson, turn right onto Jackson and 1st parking on the left* We serve authentic Greek food made with carefully chosen meats and vegetables, simple seasoning with fresh herbs, lemon, and, of course, plenty of Greek olive oil! We’re known for our chicken and lamb dishes, which are marinated a day in advance, and our Greek pies and cakes made in-house. We take our time to do it right– no microwaves, no shortcuts, no fakey stuff. We invite our customers to linger over a delicious meal, but if you’re in a rush, we invite you to call in your order ahead. Check out our website for information about special events such as live music, Tarot readings, movie screenings and more!
History
Established in 2014.
Myth Kafe, originally «Greek Myth» was started by a small family who had recently immigrated to Houston due to the worsening economic crisis in Greece. The mother cooked, the father took residence in the corner table to observe the clientele, and the son waited tables, manned the grill, and rang people up on the cash register. In a little under a year, they gained a reputation for serving authentic Greek food with careful attention paid to quality of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and olive oil– the most quintessential ingredient in Mediterranean food. When the parents chose to return to Greece and the son, back to his career as an engineer, three patrons– all friends who had worked in Athens, Greece, catering to tourists– decided to take the helm and continue the tradition. Harry– the cook, trained with «Yia Yia» Maria to be certain he knew the kitchen’s secrets. Paige, an artist, put her touch on the walls and just about everything else. George does what George does best– serve.
Meet the Business Owner
George P.
Business Owner
George has lived in over 36 countries in his lifetime, most recently Greece, where he operated private tours of Athens and continental Greece, but he has also been a tank driver in the French army, the head of a motorcycle courier company in Paris, and the owner of a Tex-Mex restaurant in Athens called «The Rio Grande.» He didn’t know then that he would fall in love with a Texan and go back with her to Houston to buy a Greek restaurant.
