Southwest Implant & Oral Surgery is a a full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery practice with a special focus on wisdom tooth removal, dental implants and intravenous (IV) sedation. Founding oral surgeon, Dr. Michael K. Eklund has placed over 6,000 dental implants and removed over 100,000 wisdom teeth. Dr. Eklund placed the first temporary anchorage device (TAD) in the world in 1983. This procedure generated a profound a paradigm shift in how skeletal anchorage could be used for dental implantology and was the basis for many of the procedures used today.

Dr. Eklund has been voted by his dental peers to be included in Texas Monthly Magazine’s list of Texas Super Oral Surgeons for five years in a row (2005 — 2009) and was H Texas Magazine Top Oral Surgeon for five years in a row (2005 — 2009).

Dr. Michael K. Eklund graduated with honors from the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston with a doctor of dental surgery degree in 1971. He received his M.S. degree from the UT Health Science Center in 1975. He completed his postgraduate residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Texas Medical Center.
