Martin — Owner and Stylist, started his career as a pre-​apprentice in a barber shop at age 14. Martin graduated from The Paris School of Fashion and Beauty in 1989. At 18, he became the youngest salon manager in one of France’s biggest franchise hair salons — Mod’s Hair. Shortly after joining the L’Oreal artistic team in Paris, Martin helped develop new hair styles and tendencies for the European market and also participated in numerous hair and fashion shows for designers such as Jean-​Paul Gaultier, Claude Montana, Vivienne Westwood, Giorgio Armani and Prada. Two years later Martin joined a small franchise called Frank Provost as a salon manager which later became the largest salon franchise in Europe and one of the leading salon operators with over 400 salons worldwide. In 1995, Martin joined the team of Jacques Dessange as an Artistic Director. In 1996, Martin was transferred from Paris to Houston, TX and joined Beautique Day Spa and Salon in Rice Village where he worked till 2004.

This was definitely a win… And I didn’t even get my haircut ! I took my
Bf for a early birthday change up cut and style. First of all I recieved compliments on my hair which is always nice upon entering a salon (and especially since I had fallen out of the shower and I have a beautiful mess of wavy/​curly wild hair).
Anyway, it was actually empty which normally would worry me but it was a weird hour so I overlooked that. A few girls at the front asked what he was interested in and paired him witha fabulous woman named Tanesha.
She wisked him off to her chair and asked what he had in mind. My bf happens to be the best so he said ask me so I proceeded to show her a picture of the gorgeous David Beckham styled with a medium lengthed haircut with a little length on top. It was the perfect choice for my guy:) I watched a little of the process trying not to hover.
Overall my bf was a happy camper. He left feeling fresh and new and pampered (which is what I wanted to make sure he felt for his pre birthday gift)!
I can’t thank Tanesha enough for being calm and delicate. She even went the extra mile and asked how fast his hair grows so that she could cut it the right length for when it grows out.
On top of it all the price wasn’t breaking my bank$ !!!
She also made a great smelling recommendation for a pomade for his newly founded hair do! Have to say I wasn’t disappointed on this Unilocal search for a great stylist for men’s cut in Houston!

Walked in to Martin’s not sure what I wanted, the receptionist set me up with Rhoda and said she could help me. We talked about different styles and whether I should cut my hair or just get it styled because I’ve never used product before. She trimmed and cleaned up my hair so I could try to grow it out evenly. She washed it and also styled it and taught me which products to use and how to get the look of a picture I showed her.
Overall it was a good experience and I plan to return.

Just walked in, got a perfect hair cut along with shampoo, neck shave, hot towel, the works. I highly recommend Rhoda, she was very pleasant and did a wonderful job. Definitely coming back.

Made a last minute appointment to get my hair cut for the first time at Martin’s and was set up with Nasser. I was welcomed into the shop by a friendly front desk staff, offered a whisky (always a nice touch), and was brought over to the chair upon finishing my drink. Nasser gave a great hair cut, along with friendly conversation. Martin’s pulls out all the stops… shampoo, scalp massage, neck massage, face massage, and not to mention, a second glass of whisky. Looks like I found my new go to!

I have lived in Houston for almost a year now and it took quite some time to find a place that met my expectations. Coming from the Northeast, guys take their hair very seriously and standards are high haha. I have tried a number of places in the Galleria area with decent results but often left a bit disappointed. Tonight, I tried ‘Martin’s” and I’m happy to say my search is over. The service was great and everyone in the salon was very nice. Nelly cut my hair and she was a true pro. I’m happy that I have finally found my «go-​to» place in Houston.

This is not about the place, as we liked it overall. It is more about one specific haircut. Had my 11 years son’s haircut yesterday. It is a disaster!!! I do not know the name of the hairdresser, a man with grey hairs. When appointment was taken, Veronica (a very nice admin) said it was going to be a lady to take care of my son. But when we arrived another lady called him and some how he ended up with this man. Yes, my son showed a picture of what he wanted his hair to look like. Yes, the hairdresser did exactly what was shown on the picture. But is not there supposed to be any finishing after a cut. It was all as if it was in army,: 10 minutes-​done-​next please. So, the result is terrible. I would wish to go somewhere and finish the cut. And this at quite a high price!!! Disappointed…

It’s a very nice place, with friendly staff and beverages. The face and neck massage was nice, shampoo and conditioner was nice as well. The styleist was very detailed oriented which I loved, but the overall finished product wasn’t what I was expecting at all. This was the most I have paid for a haircut but it does’nt feel or look like the most expensive haircut I’ve had. It’s a nice place but it isn’t for me.

Just had my 1st haircut at Martin’s, and I loved it. I was nervous, because it’s so hard to find a place where I’m comfortable.
By the way, the person that took my reservation was awesome and fun. Trying hard to remember her name, but I’m terrible that way.
I don’t have a lot of hair these days, but it’s still hard to cut so that I’m pleased. SUPER pleased with Amy, who was not chatty, but interesting to talk to, gave me a great neck and shoulder massage (1st time I’ve ever had that happen at a hair salon), and really just went to work and helped me relax and trust her.
The haircut was one of the best I’ve had in recent years (I’ll report back in a few days if that changes), and I really liked the atmosphere and the folks.
Highly recommended! Ask for Amy! Talk to everyone, they’re fun!

I have always thought there wasn’t much to cutting men’s hair. I now believe otherwise. The service from start-​to-​finish was fantastic, and when I arrived home to find the best haircut I’ve ever had, I was amazed. Thanks, Martin.

The service I received was impressive. Excellent ambiance, a welcomed touch of class and just enough chatting to make you feel friendly but nothing excessive. I would agree that the pricing is a bit higher than I’ve paid in most other circumstances however, those other (less expensive) haircuts left me pretty upset. Coincidence? Possibly, but I don’t want to risk finding out. I’ll definitely be visiting again.
Side note: I normally don’t go for the gimmicks and hype items sold in these places but I decided to follow the advice for once and I am proud to say that I have ZERO regrets. These products were actually better than my previous choices which were on the higher end.

Checked this place out based on some feedback from the /​r/​Houston subreddit. Was not disappointed. They were very accommodating. Between the haircut, shampoo, hot towel, and neck/​shoulder massage, I would definitely say it’s worth $ 38 compared to $ 10 – 15 less at sport clips. Will probably be making this my regular spot.

I’ve come here a few times and have had an overall good experience each time. Appointments are always easy to make and the receptionists are always very professional and friendly. The owner is always there and he is always friendly as well.
They always offer a beverage when I arrive and that is always nice. The haircut has always been great as well.

Wayne did an excellent job, I went all out and had a shave and a haircut with all the trimmings (pun intended) The price was much more than I usually pay, but the product was more than I usually get.
I felt that the service was extremely good, was offered a glass of wine during my visit (other options were available) The attention to detail and idle chat was welcomed and I will definately return.

Nora. A Beautiful woman. Great smile. Engaging personality. Talented Men’s hair stylist. Booked with Nora same day. Nora cut me exactly the way I wanted it. High and tight fade, clean cut edges, longer on top as a classic pompadour comb-​over. She did it with precision, dexterity, laser-​eye focus on symmetry yet still had me enamored with her as a person. It was a pleasure to be in her chair.

I discovered Martin’s Salon on the internet. I booked an appointment and Nora cut my hair.
I spent about 6 years in Dubai and while I was there I had my haircut by Lebanese, Turks and Syrians. They gave me some of the best haircuts I had ever had. Nora though gave me the best cut I’ve had in probably 10 years!
It’s great that a salon exists where they specialize in Men’s haircuts. Nice fit out too as it fit the bill for what I was looking for. I was surprised to find this style of salon in Houston but I’m happy I did.
I highly recommend Martins!

I get my haircut about once a month and is one of the few small things I do for myself so I am willing to pay more money for a premium experience and I was hoping Martin’s would fit that bill. And in all fairness it was close but not quite there.
The salon is well kept with a good design and layout to it. And the service was very good I was able to get an appointment and in quickly and on short notice. I was offered a drink and we got down to cutting hair. I got my hair washed, which I know it is much easier for the stylist to work with washed hair but I happen to prefer a wash afterwards to clean out all the cut hair. I would have liked to have that option offered to me.
On to the neck, scalp, and face massage, which is why I’m willing to pay more for haircuts. This might have been my biggest disappointment. The face was ok I’m sure like most we don’t want our faces kneaded like bread dough. However it is a problem when the same amount of force is used on the scalp and neck. It just felt like a lackluster effort.
The haircut and beard trim were solid and at the lengths I wanted so I have no issues there. However, on my beard trim the trimmings were not we’ll blown out or wiped away and I did end up with a mouthful of mustache trimmings afterwards.
Overall the experience was just good, which makes it hard to justify the premium price paid. I think the foundation is there for a premium experience with excellent service, cool décor and a good staff. Some refinement on the finer points of premium service and I think Martin’s will be an excellent men’s salon.

Wow, a reply from the owner. Listen pal, it doesn’t matter if I opted for a basic, executive or royal, the fact is you guys give shaves with disposable Gillette razors for an outrageous price. You are not an old fashioned Barbor shop, if you’d like I can bring my grandfather and he can show you how an old fashioned shave is: 1 sharp blade, a leather strap and a beaver brush to lather up some cream.
I can post some barber shop names that do the service I am taking about if you’d like? They charge me $ 30.00, I Tip $ 10.00 and yes, the experience is exhilarating !!

I’ve decided to stop getting my hair cut here for a number of reasons but here are the main ones:
1. My stylist always pushed goods on me even when I made it clear I wasn’t interested.
2. I go to get my hair cut and relax, but my stylist wouldn’t stop talking to me.
3. I usually had to wait for my appointments when I arrived.
4. The straw that broke the camels back, after telling my stylist how I usually get my hair cut every 6 – 8 weeks and requesting a short hair cut to accommodate that, when I got home I realized she had barely cut my hair. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not, but considering how pushy she is with products I’m guessing she wanted me to come back sooner.
Well, I am getting a haircut sooner than usual but it’s not at Martins. To be fair, it is a nice place and the other people seem friendly but since it’s awkward to switch stylists internally I’m going elsewhere.

I started going to Martin over a year ago shortly after it opened. They offer a great environment for a man to get a haircut, unlike most salons and even mens barbershops. You are immediately and always greeted by Martin, himself, and offered a drink (scotch, beer, wine, water) at no charge. I never have to wait around but if I did, I would definitely take advantage of the massage chair.
My girlfriend is always excited by my haircuts there, which is a change from every other salon I have been too. I am never disappointed by a haircut at Martin’s.
The past few cuts I have been going to Mitra, who does a great job and is comfortable to talk to.
I would recommend both Mitra and Martin and certainly MARTIN Gentleman Salon to anyone. In fact, I have gotten quite a few friends going now who love it also.

Martin is a classy guy who goes out of his way to make your experience in his shop an enjoyable one. The cut he provides is first rate and well worth the price. The «feel» reminds me of the old Norris back in the day when they catered exclusively to men.
The shine man is above market, but does an excellent job, and since everyone who provides good service deserves good wages — I grin and bear it.
