History

Established in 1988.

Maid in the Shade was founded by Noël Paden and Lin Fuller. Armed with cleaning supplies, a vacuum and the dream of become Houston’s premier cleaning service, Noël and Lin set out to clean up Houston. Now, over 26 years later they still own and operate the thriving business which boasts over 30 cleaning associates and a busy office staff.

Lin Fuller, a native Houstonian, co-​founded Maid in the Shade at the tender age of 20. Flash forward 26 years with thousands of dust-​bunnies conquered she’s still going strong. Lin enjoys the people pleasing aspect of the cleaning business and to be honest is a bit of a neat-​freak, so a better career match would prove difficult. When she’s not working, you can undoubtedly find her running the parks, riding her bike or reading another book on fitness and nutrition.

I have several dogs and I had to make a big cleaning. I contacted the manager via the Internet. The manager was very sociable. The team arrived on time.
The result was stunning. When we saw the work done, no one would have never said that there are living animals. It’s fantastic.

I first used Maid in the Shade in 2007 after foundation work on our house. They did a great job of cleaning (walls, floors, etc) so that we could move back in. I decided I needed more help with house cleaning in 2013 and so of course my first call was to Maid in The Shade. Their monthly visit helps me keep ahead of «dust bunnies», cat hair, and clutter! The ladies bring their own supplies and have always come as scheduled. What more could I ask?!

I used them for about 2 years. They started out doing a great job and then broke an heirloom. However, they were very efficient in compensating me for the broken item.
I let them continue to «clean» my house for months until we decided to move. As I started packing, I realized how FILTHY my house really was and felt sickened. What had the maids been doing?! Cobwebs everywhere, piles of dog hair, dust beyond belief. Shelves and spots untouched for years – the things you would care to do if it was your own home. I paid them $ 80 extra to deep clean the grout in my tiny guest bathroom. Came home and ONE area had been pitifully, barely touched. I could not believe the nerve of the cleaning crew to be so lax.
One other team of maids (you never get the same ones twice) commented that whoever had been cleaning here had done a truly awful job and I needed to tell the management. Other maid service companies send a supervisor to check the quality of the work, and I think that level of service is necessary. Otherwise, the maids do whatever they want.
The good stuff: they were always sweet to my elderly dog, and the management was always courteous and efficient. The maids, however, left a lot to be desired. I ended up disgusted that I hadn’t noticed how dirty my house had gotten while I had spent a big chunk of change on maids for 2 years.

I’ve used them twice and they didn’t do a very good job. I left them a note twice and they couldn’t follow instructions. They don’t do all the items listed on the basic cleaning list. Not worth it.

Just got a quote from them for $ 515 to «deep clean» my 2,000 square foot house where 2 people live… and…that does not include cleaning the inside of the refrigerator??? I don’t think so… Sometimes I think these services look up your house value on HCAD and assume you can afford XYZ. So, sight unseen Maid in the Shade wants to charge me $ 515? Nope.

I have used Maid in the Shade for over a year for my 2000′ town home. The cleaning by 2 ladies has been excellent and efficient. I’m comfortable leaving a key with the service so I do not have to be home. I highly recommend Maid in the Shade.

We were on vacation and arranged to have our house cleaned prior to our arrival back home. The best I can say is that the service did show up as promised.
When we called to order the service, the questions were very detailed, so we expected the service to be the same. However, it couldn’t have been more opposite.
Upon our arrival, we immediately noticed that nothing had been moved for dusting. The only dusting had been around objects.
We also noticed stains in our bathroom sinks and debris on the floors.
After further inspection, we noticed that one of our art pieces had been broken.
The service was very expensive and quite disappointing. We did contact customer service and they offered to come back out to dust and clean the sinks, but for the price we paid, we didn’t feel that should have been necessary.
If they did not make the effort to clean professionally the first time, we did not want to use them again.

Company is run efficiently, ladies who came out very nice, but the cleaning I received was not very good. They did a beautiful job on my hard surface floors, but missed one entire room (dining area directly off the living rm). I was expecting company and I had to redo the liv rm area rug bec they’d only vac’d the open areas w/​o furniture. Later found same issue in den. Had to vacuum under an area rug they hadn’t moved or vacuumed. I had to dust all furniture where they hadn’t moved magazines or lamps! Was told they were expected to do this. They arrived 20 minutes late and spent less than 2.5 hours in an 1800 sq. ft. home. I had paid for a dust boost and extra for a den where my dogs hang out. So, they should have spent more time and been more detailed. They just cut corners everywhere.

We used Maid in the Shade for about six months while our normal cleaner was out of commission. First off, I will say that the company is very professionally run. The office staff is very responsive, the cleaning team always came when scheduled, and if things had to be moved around because of a holiday we were told well in advance.
But the quality of the actual cleaning was nothing like what I’m used to from my regular cleaner (who is also about 20% cheaper). My regular cleaner would come with a two-​person team and spend 2 – 3 hours cleaning the house, whereas the Maid in the Shade team was in and out in under an hour. They do basic vacuuming and clean your surfaces, but that’s about it – I routinely found crumbs behind the toaster, dust bunnies under the bed, etc. What they did was fine, but it wasn’t the kind of service I wanted. Like most services, they are inflexible in terms of what they will/​not do. For example, my service package included things like washing dirty dishes in the sink and putting clean sheets on the bed, but we don’t need anything like that – we’re neat people. When I asked whether those services could be swapped out for more thorough cleaning of certain items, I was told that wasn’t possible.
Several times I came home and even the basics hadn’t been done right. The company was always very responsive and sent someone out to reclean those items the next day, but it would be much better if things were done correctly the first time. The last straw for me was when we paid Maid in the Shade to do a special move-​out cleaning service before we vacated our old apartment. I paid $ 30 extra to have them wash the inside of our kitchen drawers, and the cleaners entirely missed 2 whole drawers! By the time I realized this, we were about to return the keys, so I had to clean them out myself. Not a huge deal, but I think the cleaners go really quickly and don’t check their work to make sure everything’s done correctly.
I am giving three stars because I think Maid in the Shade is probably on par or better than most other large-​scale cleaning services.

Anytime you let strangers in your house you are weary. I needed to set up a regular cleaning of my apartment, as for lack of a better word, I am just lazy. I mean who wants to spend their time cleaning the bathtub, and hardwoods, when you can be out enjoying this gorgeous weather? For me, its just more of a luxury, and treat every two weeks to come home to a clean house. Maid in the Shade made it easy and convenient to schedule cleanings, also letting me know they conduct NATIONWIDE background checks on their staff, along with being licensed by the BBB, and bonded. Their price was reasonable, for all the peace of mind. Sure I could have gotten someone off Craig’s List for cheaper, but I would have came home to an empty apartment. GREAT EXPERIENCE, and would highly recommend them!

We’ve had their service at least 2.5 years and they come every 3 weeks. They generally do a good job, but it seems they are always forgetting something ie clean the microwave or unload the dishwasher. Last visit, they forgot to lock our front gate and we have pets.
When they forget, then they’ll offer to come out another day to do what they should have done in the first place. It’s inconvenient.
Their prices are reasonable and we haven’t had anything missing in our home and they’ve only broken one cup, but to me they are on probation until they return to the quality that we expect when we first started using them.

I found out on a Wednesday that I was going to have house guests the coming Saturday. There was no way that my fiancée and I would have managed to clean the house in such a short notice. After reading the wonderful reviews on Unilocal I’ve decided to contact Maid in the Shade via a quote request on their website. An informative customer representative by the name of «Nichole» immediately called me back in about 30 minutes regarding my quote request. She was pleasant and most importantly sounded competent. Despite the short notice, they were able to accommodate me on Friday. Two wonderful ladies came out and did a very thorough job of cleaning the house. Probably the best it has ever looked in the past 5 years since we’ve moved in. Most importantly, I appreciated their patience with our pets (we have loud birds). We’ll likely request their service on a regular basis from now on.

I moved back to Houston about almost 3 years ago, I was looking for a good reputable cleaning service that would work inside the loop. I called Maid in the Shade and scheduled my first cleaning on New Years Eve and the ladies did a fabulous job. I now have my town home cleaned every 3 weeks. The same ladies clean my home each visit which I like since I have a dog & cat who are now familiar with the ladies when they do come.
The ladies have broken items before and left a note which would then be followed by a phone call from Gail the customer service rep letting me know I could fax over the receipt for a new item and they would reimburse me the cost of the broken item. I thought that was a definite plus to continuing business from this company.
I setup payment for the service with my credit card. There was a recent hack into my credit card and I had to close my current card and have a new one sent to me. One of the ladies called inquiring about my card not working and I explained the situation, they told me not to worry and just give them a call when I got my new card in the mail to update my credit card information. I thought that was incredibly reasonable and I really appreciated her willingness to work with me.
This company is rated with the Better Business Bureau and I truly think they are wonderful. I wholeheartedly recommend this cleaning service to anyone who’s looking for a great reputable company which in the cleaning arena is hard to find :)

I called Maid in the Shade to do a complete house cleaning after my fiancé’s roommate moved out and I had moved in. (Ew, boy house!!) The woman who booked my appointment, Patty, was very friendly and called to check in a couple times before the appointment. The maids arrived early and were quite thorough, although with so much to do, they did miss a couple little spots. Truthfully, they would have had to go through with a toothbrush for some of them, though. Two of them stayed for 4 hours and I’m sure they could have easily stayed for another 6 to get the place spotless. I was happy with the service and thrilled not to be living in a dirty bachelor pad. Patty followed up with me afterward (I love such excellent customer service!) and even sent me a thank-​you note. I would absolutely hire them again.
