I’ve driven by this building many, many times never paying any attention until now. I had tried 4 different lighting stores, none of which carried my specific replacement bulbs and two of them referred me to Light Bulbs Unlimited. They were right in doing so! This place carry’s many different types of replacement bulbs along with copious amounts of lighting fixtures for sale. I guess the only drawback is the place is packed to the gills with floor, wall and ceiling light fixtures and seems it needs some housekeeping.

Excellent! Needed two shades fir a couple of boring looking lamps. After a few samples they hit it spot on! These lamps are now anything but boring. Perfect shade and perfect finial, not only fir the lamp but for my style.
Tip: be surveyor bring the lamp for a proper «fitting».

I liked this place immediately – the selection is unusual, the advice is always solid, and the staff is much more than reasonable. Yes, you can find less expensive versions, but the advice, efficiency, and selection is an outstanding bargain all together.
Compared to other franchises, I would not even consider going elsewhere. I have had 3 – 4 repairs here, and am extremely pleased. There isn’t a bulb or advance in lighting these guys don’t know about. A Houston treasure.

I shop here probably 4x a year. Park in the back lot. Great customer service. Love that I can simply buy one light bulb at a time… the house I bought here has lots of unusual fixtures so I just bring the dead bulb with me & the counter guys find the replacement. Excellent selection of decorative lighting too.

While these guys definitely know what they are talking about technically, don’t expect any deals: Compared to big-​box stores like Lowes and Home Depot, this place is a minimum of twice as expensive, maybe more.
For instance: Halogen and LED MR16 lamps; 12V transformers; LED flood light. I have literally purchased all these from LBU, as well as from a big-​box store: In every case, LBU was at least twice as expensive.
While «twice» isn’t much when you are buying $ 1.99 incandescents, it’s definitely noticeable when you are buying $ 39 LED flood lamps, or $ 30 transformers.
I prefer to keep my money in the community; however, at this rate, I feel like I’m subsidizing somebody’s retirement.

The have a light bulb for every occasion, though if you’re needing something for outside security lighting (motion sensing/​uv) they really don’t stock much so you’ll wind up at a big box hardware store.
Though if you need bulbs, and or lighting for your house/​decorative etc. their selection is pretty impressive.

Great place to find hard to find light bulbs. I once lived in an apartment that had the most bizarre lighted ceiling fans and this was the only place that had the bulbs I needed.
I also come here to buy products in bulk for work. Great customer service and will invoice corporate accounts.

This is a wonderful place and really great for finding lightbulbs that appear to be non-​existent! My mother gave me a lamp with a tiny bulb in it. This is a great lamp to have around, especially when the power goes out, but it ceased working this past weekend.
I went in to Light Bulbs Unlimited on Monday morning and they gave me a comparable bulb. I tried it out at home and my lamp still didn’t turn on. I returned today with my old bulb, my new bulb, and the lamp. They graciously fidgeted, grabbed a new bulb, and situated it into the socket (mind you, this was no ordinary lamp or bulb)! I ended up with a 4watt bulb that lit up the lamp nicely. After all the consternation, I was able to go home with a perfect bulb for only $ 1.35.
I can’t sing enough praises about how helpful they all were!

Honest to God, they have every kind of light bulb on the face of the Earth! Over the years, I’ve gone here with every possible sort of bizzare-​sized and burned out bulb. They’re NEVER at a loss! It’s just a calm «Oh sure. We’ve got those.» How a small building like that can hold such a seemingly endless stock of the most obscure bulbs is really beyond me. It’s like those tiny cars at the circus when 100 clowns get out of the damned thing!
They also have lots of lamps, lighting fixtures, etc, some of them of dubious tastefulness, but beauty’s in the eye of the beholder, I’m told.
I’m going 4 stars and not 5 because, even though they’ve never failed to have any bulb I’ve needed, the prices for said bulbs have often been a bit frightening! I once had to pay $ 11.50 for ONE bulb! Otherwise, great place, great service, super knowledgable staff.

There are a lot of jokes regarding light bulbs and how many people of a certain background it takes to change them, but light bulbs are no joking matter. The big box stores only have a very limited selection of common bulbs, but what if you need a European base bulb for your fancy shmancy imported chandelier, pretty Edison lamps, or some weird voltage/​wattage lamp for a projector? These guys probably have it and you don’t have to wait a week to get it online.

I was hoping for those strange new bulbs with the curly-​q filaments and whacky configurations — but alas found non.
However, they do have a lot of really wild configurations including LED spots and small fluorescent wound coils (in bulbs)…if you know what I mean.

The light in my kitchen went out and when I took apart the fixture, I discovered a type bulb I have never seen before. I looked for the bulb at the grocery and hardware stores and could not find it. I took it to Light Bulbs Unlimited and they had me a new bulb within seconds.

Cory O, you are dead on! My partner and I were looking for stuff for our place and after we got most of the furniture from Cantoni, W. Sonoma & Crate, we forgot a floor lamp… so this was the closest and thought we drop by. Yes, its clutter with things and we really sneered upon most of the lamps on display but just when we were giving up, I saw a simple lamp (similar to a microphone stand) just in front of the entrance. We looked at it and finally decided to get it as it cost only $ 159. We also got a nice small table lamp that cost $ 50, both lamps are made in China, you can see it by the packaging… Anyway, we paid and waited 3 business day… now the adventure begin…
They only open till 6pm Mon-​Fri, so i had to rush down there after work. Picked the lamp up, supposedly flew in from California. The box were opened and the foams in it were a mess, falling apart as i retrieve the lamp out from the box. Try to assembled it and the last bit didnt screw in coz its missing an important bit, so i had to send it back the next day before 6pm… they reordered it and after 1 week, still no news, i called and they called the supplier and its still no lamp after 2 weeks…
So, as it aptly named… this place is probably good for getting any sort of bulbs, thats it! Honestly, i do like to support local/​privately owned small businesses as long as they step up and provide that tad bit of «personal services»

When I was working for Art League Houston, I’d come in here with whatever weird bulb we needed to finish lighting the gallery (usually at the eleventh hour). I would usually just pass the light bulb across the counter to whoever was working, say «I need a half dozen of… THOSE» and they’d respond with «Oh yeah, this is the fifty watt bla bla bla» and start bagging what I needed right away. These guys are SERIOUS about their lighting. They really know their stuff, which will take you off guard if you’re used to the dubious «expertise» that the big box hardware stores provide.
I have to agree with Cory O. on the lamp front – it’s not exactly high fashion and I couldn’t see myself buying ANY of these tacky creations. But for weird-​ass bulbs, this is definitely a go-​to place.

In the hunt for cool things to decorate our new digs with, we ended up here for a new lamp. I’d driven by it numerous times while in the Montrose area and was curious. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed.
Most of the lights in here were cheesy, bar/​pool hall lights. Which actually was the highlight of the store. They had the fun florescent lights, lava lamps, and some slightly suggestive things that aren’t necessarily family friendly. If I were looking to decorate a bachelor pad, the back section would be perfect.
As for the rest of the lights in the joint, I was disappointed. They were pretty low quality for the most part with a few really nice fans. The store was much smaller than you’d expect and since every square inch was filled with lamps, it was a bit claustrophobic. I was so nervous being in there, expecting to be «that idiot» that did the domino effect of knocking over every single lamp in the store. Since there wasn’t anything there that suited out needs, we skedaddled as soon as possible to avoid my klutzy ways destroying things.

Light bulbs, neon, lamps, and pretty much anything else that turns electricity into a visible, heat-​producing form. This is one of those places that I poke around in but never buy anything, and I always see a lot of people do the same. It’s good for lighting inspiration, hard-​to-​find bulbs, and the occasional in-​home neon need (gifts!).
