Katch 22

I visited Katch 22 today for lunch and everything was great! From when I walked in and was promptly seated, to the AMAZING bacon wrapped quail. Omg the quail was perfectly cooked, moist and tasty, the bacon was crispy and salty. Must try.

Was driving by, Sign on the door says for lease.

I’ve drove past this place sooooo many times and never knew about it. We came here last night 4 their $ 2.22 martini’s. If you’re familiar with martini’s you’ll know their 90% alcohol, 10% liquor. I had the pomegranate one. Strong but pretty OK. I also ordered bacon wrapped something (lol) as an appetizer and the shrimp pasta for my entrée. Can’t forget the key lime pie for dessert. Both were sooooooo good! The place is spacious, decorated really nice & has comfy atmosphere with live music, a patio (when its not cold out) and several TV’s for game days. Also a good place for large groups. The only negative was the waitresses — its like they were non existent. We had 2 ask for water, refills, silverware, menu’s, etc. It was very frustrating. Maybe they need 2 structure their areas better or train them on good customer service but overall, I liked the place & will prob go back.

I was there with a table of 10 watching football. The place was not overly busy and I can see why. The service was unbelievably bad. We had to flag the waitress every time we needed something, then she would only speak to that person and walk off without checking on anyone else. We were given a dirty glass that we had to go to the bar to replace, ditto with getting more water. We also bussed our own table as none of the plates were cleared more than 30 minutes after we finished. We had an empty bucket of beer next to our table for 2 hours until we moved it to another table. Oh yeah, the food, I hate the fish tacos and to me they were very bland as was the rice they were served with. Bottom line, there are much better places to spend a Sunday.

Had the pleasure of running into Executive chef Kory and he told me about katch 22. Finally got the chance to today.
Ambience — real nice and clean looking with modern lounging furniture. Also has a patio dining area. Casual, nicer bar spot. Basically a nicer bar with a better menu than a typical bar.
Parking — you are in the washington ave area so parking is scarce.
Lots of specials and a really nice place. Worth a shot!

It’s not bad.
bacon wrapped quail-​on a bed of cous cous. Tasty. I especially liked the cous cous with it bc it’s larger and I’d never had that kind before.
blackened shrimp tacos-​where was the blackening? Aside from that, they were alright.
mahi mahi fish tacos-​fish was overcooked and dry
All in all, it was fine. I wasn’t blown away by it, but if boyfriend wants to watch a game and get food, I’d go back.

Came here in search of something strange to the south, lobster rolls. I was not disappointed one bit. Zagat recommended this place to me and I figured id give it a try. You should follow suit. Service was a tad slow, but nothing to complain about really. The happy hour specials are really good and drink selection fit my bill. Will definitely be coming back here again, maybe ill see you here! Ill buy you a drink or two!

Food at this place was excellent. They have an excellent menu with a wide variety. This place would get 4 stars but I think it would be a long shot to call this place a sports bar.
Simply put, they need more TVs. There are plenty of spots in the house that do not have a clear line if sight towards a television. Let’s hope they fix this soon :)

Slider heaven! Some food great, some not so great, but good variety. Decent happy hour specials.
Came here for a fantasy football draft. See my buddy Vik’s excellent review for detail on the layout. The restaurant/​bar is owned by one of Roger Clemens’ sons and Roger’s jerseys can be see throughout the bar area.
For the food, my group ordered the appetizers, since the appetizers are half-​off during happy hour. The spinach artichoke dip was ok, nothing special. The calamari looked like a Chinese dish: tender and fried with a honey glaze on top. It was different and delicious.
We also ordered the sliders… twice. These things are the bomb. Wow. Some off the best sliders I have ever had. Cheese, hatch chiles… deliciousness in every bite. I can’t wait to go back and get more. I took the last one home and my daughter absolutely loved it.
It was steak night and a friend ordered the rib eye special. There was something about the seasoning that wasn’t right. The steak was also a bit chewy. I do not think I would order the steak on my next trip.
To top off the evening, Katch-​22 had the St. Arnold’s Bishop Barrel number 7, a special bourbon-​barrel brew with a hint of molasses. Great sipping brew.
I would like to return to Katch-​22 to try the fish tacos and the bacon-​wrapped quail, possibly the brunch that is offered. Plenty of food to try. Then again, the sliders alone will most likely draw me back.

This place was very accommodating for our football draft, they even provided a draft kit though we didn’t use it since our draft was a live online draft.
Parking:
On arrival there was ample parking, no problem finding a spot. They have a parking lot all to themselves and also abundant street parking along Floyd Street.
Indoors:
On entry it wasn’t busy at the time we went… reservations were at 4pm, the beginning of happy hour. Seating… the full bar looked to hold about max ⁶⁄₇ people with 4 TV’s available at the bar. In the main dining area there is plenty of space for big groups and plenty of TV’s available so you should be able to see the game from wherever you are seated. These TV’s also seemed to be all LED’s…clear crisp picture. For our draft we called ahead by a couple of weeks and they set us up with a private area, though not completely closed off to the main area, but far enough away where other people didn’t distract us.
Food/​Drinks:
Since we got there during happy hour, ½ off appetizers always a plus and we order the artichoke dip/​calamari/​sliders. First off the artichoke dip was good, but there was a side dip of a orange/​reddish color don’t know what it was but it was very tasty. This aint your average calamari, after fried it was dipped into some sort of honey/​orange sweetness… great twist to the calamari. The sliders we extremely enjoyed, ordered this dish multiple times… meat cooked/​seasoned well… very flavorful. To top off our order… drink wise… they have the limited edition of St. Arnold’s Bishop Barrel 7… wow the flavor was amazing plus 11.3% alcohol, so watch yourself, I had a decent buzz after one drink and I am no lightweight. We had friends that didn’t really drink dark beers and they were astonished by the flavor… dark beer with a hint of bourbon taste… remarks of being one of the best beers they ever tasted… Good Job St. Arnold’s and Kory/​Luke for getting the beer at your establishment.

Minor Con:
The only thing I was wondering about is why the floor in the main area a bit sticky. Though sticky floors who cares… next time I will just wear different shoes :).

I was enticed by their 22 cent martinis and half price appetizers special. I was impressed with the food, ambiance, adequate parking, friendly service, size of portions, the menu selections, and the taste of the food. Ahh, the flavor.
We had the sliders (great tasting, thick burgers, three to an order) and the calamari (served on a bed of Chinese coleslaw) and a mildly spicy, creamy dip. The calamari was different from any I’d ever tasted or seen in that it was not chewy ovals but sweet, almost honey crusted soft sticks that tasted more like crab, but nonetheless tasty.
Other items on the menu looked very appealing. The weekend brunch featured an Avocado and Crab Omelet plus Shrimp and Grits which both will be on our next order. The daily specials looked appetizing as well as many of the regular menu items including the Boston Lobster Roll sandwich. Even the menu itself was impressive, each being backlit like an iPad.
I was impressed with the flavors, the ambiance, the casual seating (both in and out) and the fact that it can be a sports bar or just a fun pub for singles and couples of all ages.
This could be one of my new favorite places. I’m looking forward to coming back soon… maybe for the Wednesday night steak night!

I came here on a Saturday night and it was completely dead. There was maybe 3 other tables there.
Our servers were great. I felt bad for them because I couldn’t imagine depending off of tips when you could here crickets.
The place is a cross between a lounge and a restaurant. I think it sorta has an identity issue. You’re either a restaurant or a sports bar that serves food. Pick one.
The drinks were decent and the fish tacos I had were good for the price.

I met my mother at Katch for an impromptu lunch. I wanted to share with her the goodness that are the lobster rolls there. Food was good as usual and service was very prompt and friendly.
The one star review goes to the manager who fielded my mom’s call today when she noticed she was accidentally charged twice. She called and stated that she had a problem. The manager then said, «problem, you don’t have a
problem. A problem is when a child comes into the restaurant in a wheel
chair, a problem is when a person has cancer. » She then told him what
had happened to her card and that it was a problem to her. He then replied, «my
neighbor has colon cancer» The manager then went on to find the double charge and said he’d have it fixed in 12 hours. Never apologized for the inconvenience and they got off the phone. Five stars for the strangest idea of what customer service should sound like.
Plenty of places to get a good meal in this town, and I just found one place I’ll be taking off that list.

I was extremely underwhelmed with this place.
My man and I came here for dinner around 8 on a weekday evening after having partaking in happy hour across the street at Woodrow’s. There were very few diners, however there was a loud group of older folks hanging out in the bar area. The kind of older folks that are dressed to young, have collagen filled lips, fake eyelashes, graphic tees, and sports cars. As far as the atmosphere, there are multiple TVs all around, with one big room for open table seating. It kind of felt like a Buffalo Wild Wings, but just a *little* nicer.
The menu is pretty much bar food consisting of sandwiches, burgers, and a salad or two. Reluctantly, I decided on a seafood salad and my man got a grilled cheese with tomato basil soup. His meal was quite tasty. The grilled cheese was fairly traditional, served on Texas toast with cheddar cheese. It was well toasted and nice and buttery.
My salad on the other hand was quite boring. The lump crab meat was minimal and the dressing was extremely oily. I barely ate it and had a few bites of the grilled cheese.
Due to the combination of the crowd this place is pulling in, the atmosphere, and the food, we both agreed we will not come here again.

Three stars on Unilocal = A-​OK. And that was what this place is. Not too good, not too bad. A-​OK. I’d go back if friends wanted to meet there but I would not suggest it for a dinner get together.
My wife fell in love with lobster rolls on our honeymoon in Maine. So whenever I see a place fellow Unilocalers say have a decent one, I take her. She was disappointed it was all claw meat and no succulent tail meat. More creamy goodness like you expect from an authentic lobster roll was needed. It seemed to be just lobster claw meat on some grilled and buttered bread. For $ 14 you would kinda expect more substance. I know we are comparing it to those fantastic lobster rolls we got in Maine. Still don’t expect to get one of those if that’s what you are seeking.
I was interested in the Bloody Mary Burger. What, I asked, made them call it that? I was told it had all the makings of a Bloody Mary in the patty… horseradish, Worcestershire sauce and vodka. Yes, vodka! I tasted none of that in the burger. It was a burger that was well cooked — a little pink left — and topped with very fresh veggies. I would have preferred purple onion to white. But I won’t be picky. The fresh cucumber slices instead of pickles at first looked odd but gave the burger a very fresh garden taste.
You get a choice of one side with each sandwich. Yeah! You could choose from more than fries or chips! My wife chose asparagus — lovely breaded and perfectly fried with lump crab meat on top. It was very nice. Needed salt for her taste.
I had the mac and cheese — yum! Bacony, creamy cheesy shells! Yum!
The place was empty save for one other table when we walked in on a Saturday at noon for lunch. Odd but perhaps it’s still trying to find it’s crowd after being open only a few weeks.
Full bar, lovely wine list, limited but decent beer choices. It’s not a sports bar even though they have lots of sports items hung on the walls and plenty of TVs tuned into sports. It’s a nice open space with a fancified bar and grill menu.
For $ 45 + tip for two sandwiches and beers for lunch I left feeling I was being charged an extra $ 5 a dish for the name Mandola and Clemens on the place. However, I didn’t leave hungry or unhappy with the very pleasant service.

I also went with high hopes. There weren’t dashed, but I don’t know when I’ll return…
I wanted to really enjoy the lobster roll, but I have to agree w/​Patti’s summary. BUT the fried asparagus were quite interesting and delicious (once I got around a couple of instances of shell).
While Owner Mandola was present, and very attentive, I feel that more of a focus might need to be created for the restaurant, ambiance, and definitely the chalk board wall.
As usual, because most know that I’m a heavy weight, I have to discuss drinks. There were just OK; maybe I’ll stick to one of my olé’ standbys during my next visit.
Before my next visit, I will definitely be visiting Main-​ly Sandwich first. That might give me a good basis for comparison…

First things first. I saw this place opened a few weeks ago, then saw a few reviews on Unilocal.My thought was how the hell can they bastardize the name of an iconic novel, if not the greatest novel ever? Then I learned how the name came about. Its all got to do with baseball, which I should have figured since it is a «Mandola Clemens Establishment.» Basically one of the owners use to be a catcher, they changed the «C» to a «K» for the owners first name and for a stikeout. Then Clemens’ number is 22. OK, no egregious points taken off for bad literary puns…
Which, given the name origins, makes it clear this is trying to be an upscale sports bar. There is obviously something about the place connected to the Clemens family. If they are not an outright co owner, the place received permission to plaster the name and The Rockets image everywhere.
On to the important stuff… There is a granite top bar, a small outdoor area to the right, and a large dinning area to the left. At prime time happy hour, 5:30, there was nobody here on a Friday. I could here my foot steps echoing as I walked to the bar. Two other parties showed up after I ordered, and the place has horrible acoustics. Four people total, and the echoing is ridiculous. Ad the crappy sports bar theme, and banal 90 «alternative rock,» and I can’t wait to get out of here.
Though first, a drink and food. I went with the lobster sliders, and a Live Oak Hefe. At least they offer 4 decent taps. One being of the «pseudo craft» variety. That is alright. At least most things out of peoples comfort zone. When I ordered the Live Oak, I think it was the manger that gave me this strange «awesome bro» high five… awkward. The lobster sliders were dry and flavorless. The one other couple next to me did not enjoy their burger sliders and lobster roll either. Burger sliders were literally just a dry patty of ground beef with a raw onion on top. The lobster roll was the same as mine, just not in three white bread buns. Other stuff on the menu is just pub grub, and expensive grub at that.
The bartender was attentive, friendly, and accepting of criticism. Which he coaxed out of both. Neither of us wanted to say anything, but we ended up mentioning our critics. So the two stars are for the bartender. Though he did not have a lot to do outside us and one other person sitting at a table (which now that I think about it, Looked like a waiter waiting for somebody else to come in).
Sorry, I was left unimpressed. It is not the vibe I like, and food wise I was left wanting a lot more. I am probably not making another visit.

Katch 22 just opened this past Wednesday on May 15^th. I went for lunch and had the Side Salad, Lobster Roll and Fried Asparagus with Crab. For dessert, I opted for the Chocolate Cake with Caramel Drizzle.
My waitress was very professional and prompt and the food came out quickly. Everything I ordered was solid (I am guessing, as this is my first ever lobster roll!). The waitstaff is still new, so cut them some slack. Also, the restaurant is not advertising yet because they are STILL WORKING OUT THE KINKS!!! I think that everyone needs to cut them some slack — they are still tweaking the menu.
I was fortunate enough to meet and speak with both owners (K. Clemens & L. Mandola). They are both SUPER friendly and interested in what I thought of their food — that is extremely good business folks!
I have no doubt that when I return in a month, that the food will be foodgasmic and exceptional, thus warranting a solid 5 stars.
I personally thought that everything on the menu was priced appropriately for what the dish contained. I mean come on guys; if you can’t afford to eat there, then don’t complain about the prices!

For a major league establishment, you should expect a lot with backers Roger Clemens’ son and Luke Mandola. The place is an upscale restaurant and sports bar, with comfortable seating, classy décor, good food and drink, and excellent service. Delivery is good. (I hope you know baseball terminology to interpret my review properly)
The name is play on 3 things: baseball, Roger’s number and the Catch 22 book. Drink or food first? That’s the catch 22.
Some, but not too much, sports memorabilia (signed jerseys, including a couple Roger, and helmets) adorn the walls. Wall-​hung TVs are small and not too many (thank goodness) than in most sports bars where the TVs are on steroids.
Full bar, small outdoor seating area, restaurant area with slight dimmed lighting, not too loud rock music… you’d have to be crazy not to like this place. But too crazy will get you thrown out. (You have to know the book/​movie to understand this sentence properly)
I did not balk at the double-​digit prices of everything on the menu, since I expect quality will be good.
I ordered the Certified Angus Steak Sandwich.
The velocity out the kitchen was about 10 minutes, and no one dropped the ball on my order.
One whiff of the sandwich on my home plate, and I knew it would be good. The strips of beef are cooked to order (medium rare for me) and topped with some fried red onion strings. A nice mayo-​horseradish sauce in the bread’s bull pen is a perfect complement to the taste. The beef dishes come with a hardy steak knife, so be careful not to get a split finger.
I had a fast ball here. The food hit the strike zone for me. It’s nice to see Mr. Clemens strike out on his own.
