Talk about disappointed in a once great tradition. Maybe it’s a drive-thru thing but how hard is it to take and make a proper order of 4 original conveys? Everyone in Houston knows what an «original» has… all together gang, chilli, onions and mustard! According to Unilocal,I drove 5.8 miles. For a red liquid with little pieces of meat over a still great weiner all in a stale bun. All I have are the memories I guess. Those old coneys could have been served out of a shack and there would be a line down the block. Now you have fancy or soon to be fancy stores with sub par product.

JCI has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. Best hot dogs around, and their proprietary hot sauce is all flavor with little fire yet still offers a great pairing for chili dogs and cheese fries. Tried the Slopper(burger with a ladle of chili slopped on top) last time and it was great. I didn’t have a heart attack afterwards, either, so that’s nice.

Typical James Coney Island… which is a good thing because the hot dogs are good. Place is clean, quite, and it has a drive thru for easy access.

I recently read Culture Map’s article about JCI’s anniversary that called for local chefs to create specialty dogs for the next few months. I had never been to JCI before, but after I canceled a recent date because he was moving entirely to slow(when it came to arriving at an acceptable time), I decided to turn to my list & try something new. Boy am I glad I did! The Huntin’ Dog was absolutely great! You gotta give it a try. To even make things better, the entire staff there is courteous & nice!

Not bad. The hot dog would have been better of they throw some grill marks on it. I appreciate all beef hot dogs

Simple, Easy, Addictive. Every time my better half tells me we’re headed to Houston, I think James Coney Island. Never did I think I would like, let alone adore and crave hotdogs. The chili is another obsession entirely. It’s closer to gravy or a meat sauce. The bun is super soft and proportionate to the amount of dog + cheese + chili + diced raw onion. So I order three chili cheese dogs, usually with a side of chili cheese fries. It’s completely necessary.

I dont get cravings for hotdogs but when i do i go to JCI. The Texan is a classic with chili, cheese, peppers and onions. not only do they have great dogs but they have chilicheese fries. Burgers are good but you dont go to hotdog place and order a burger…
