History

Established in 1977.

Scott Hoffer’s grandfather, Aaron, creates the furniture rental industry during the Great Depression when he began to rent out tables and sofas from his farm and feed store in Shepherd, Texas. The farm and feed store eventually goes away, and the family focuses on furniture – creating a successful chain of furniture rental and retail stores. Scott’s father, Jodie, runs the rental division at the family furniture store which is sold to a manufacturing company in 1972 to form the basis of the first national furniture rental company. Jodie runs the western division of the company from 1972 to 1977 at which time he decides to leave corporate life and come back to Houston to open up Hoffer Furniture as an independent company with Scott. Upon Scott’s college graduation he returns to Houston where he expands the business from one store to four. In 2006, Scott decides to pursue a more simple life and consolidates his four stores back to one. In 2013, Scott’s daughter, Samantha, joins HOFFER.
