Hefley’s

Service is marginal at best. Staff is always rude during the Alumni game watch party. Also, the beer serving size has been reduced and the food (Fuzzy’s) is also marginal at best. Two stars for treating customers like garbage.

Ugh. Tried to like this place. They will not honor the free beer. Even when they serve u the wrong one. Bartender said he was the manager and would not try to make it right. We r not tough customers. But in this instance we had to write a review and comment.

Worst service and it’s an old crowd!!! Don’t even give them the free Unilocal beer, because they won’t honor it!!! Never coming back…

One of the better places in midtown. More Austiny than the others so it stands out. Also the bar tender was nice.

I’ve been here on a Friday night 3 or 4 times for happy hours hosted by a sports league I play in. This is an awesome place to host a group happy hour or celebration. I’m not sure what the set up is like for that, but it must be easy because we keep having it there! We have the entire 2^nd floor reserved for us, which is great because we draw a big crowd and a lot of people can fit up there!
There is a parking lot!!! Oh my gosh. I hate coming to midtown because of the parking situation, so hefley’s is like a little miracle. It seems to be located kind of on the outskirts of midtown, but it’s easy to walk to as well if you’re out and on the prowl for a cheap beer.
The drink prices are great! I asked the bartender if they had any drink specials. He said no, the drinks are already cheaper than any other place around. AND THEY ARE.
They have a ton of TVs, so I imagine it’s a fun place to grab a brew with your bros and talk about stats (and whatever else bros do when they watch games). Judging by the Texas Tech décor, it’s a good place to go with your fellow Red Raiders on game day.
The downstairs seemed to draw a smaller crowd, but on the nights I was there ut was earlier in the night. One time there were a ton of firemen hanging out, which made the night even better… Wink!
Overall, cheaper drinks, chiller atmosphere than the rest of midtown, and parking?!? Yes please.

This has become out place to hang out without a crowd. We have gone here for a couple of Sundays and have always had a great time — just the two of us. The beer is cold and so is the Fireball (our favorite). Tonight we had a pizza and it was pretty good (for bar food). The games are on all of the many tvs in the place and everyone feels welcome here. Great spot without the pretense of other midtown places.

We come to hefley’s every Thursday for trivia and every Thursday the service gets worse and worse. I ordered a pitcher of bud light a few weeks ago and it was sour and hot, I took it to the bar and the bartender scowled at me, poured me a new pitcher and it tasted the same. Instead of fixing the problem her told to stop being picky and just take my money back. I worked in a restaurant for years and never complain but it was terrible. We ordered a pizza the other week and it was cold with rubber like cheese and was almost edible after tons of hot sauce, ranch, and mustard. Tonight I checked in on Unilocal and according to Unilocal I should have received a free beer, but when I presented it to the bar tender he looked at it, and looked at me and said «no» I said «what do you mean?» He said «I’m not giving you free beer, I didn’t put that on there» I explained it was a Unilocal promo for the bar. He denied my rightful free beer and walked away. If it were not for Will with geeks who drink trivia, being so much fun, I would never come back.

I showed up with a couple of friends and the place was empty. The staff (3) saw us and no one offered their service.
After waiting for a long time, we left.

This is one of our go-​to happy hour spots in the area. A great place to just hangout with a good drink, and some good bar food. The patio seating is really nice when the weather cooperates. They have live music and the last singer was really good and CUTE! LOL

My husband is a TTU grad and we had heard this was the place to go for the Tech games. We came here this past Saturday. It was an early game so it wasn’t packed but it was a good crowd. We decided to order some drinks and a burger to split. When the burger came out they didn’t give us silverware, one napkin and only one packet of ketchup. Considering there were fries that was a little crappy. I had to continuously go back to the bar to ask for stuff like napkins etc.
There was one bartender to the left of the bar, an older man, that was pretty rude and seemed agitated to have to be working. Apparently though if you go to the right of the bar they use a different system to close out tabs and that girl was super nice.
Overall the bar was a big disappointment. Not sure if we will be back or not

Only place I can find where every tv is tuned into Texas Tech Football when they’re playing. That alone gets 5 stars from this TTU alum.
Beer prices are good, atmosphere is nice, service is friendly and promtp, and food smells/​looks good and greasy.
Honestly, I’ve only been here to watch Tech games but every time i’ve been it was a positive experience with a large rowdy crowd. Other times, you’re on your own.

Stopped in for dinner and drinks on Friday night around midnight. Unfortunately, they weren’t serving food anymore, except the owner offered to make me a pepperoni pizza, so I took the offer. There was a guy playing guitar and singing some popular songs… only he was singing them quietly, like ballads, so it seemed a little off for the bar environment.
There were less than 10 guests, so the place seemed very empty. My drink, a whiskey sour, was not good… AT ALL. I can’t even tell you what they did wrong to it. My tip: keep to the beer. After the guitarist finished his set, they turned on the jukebox with some country songs.
Due to the lack of guests, the poor music choices, and the bad drinks, I’d give this place 2 stars, but because the owner was so nice to make us a pizza and check on us and chat with us before we left, I decided to give the extra star for his effort.

Will never visit again. Here’s why:
— manager should insist that day waitress not have her iPad at work; she was glued to it the entire time I was there (a late afternoon visit). Since there were only four other customers present who were only drinking beer, she was not overworked or too busy.
— other than the initial menu dropoff and the food dropoff, I served myself. Got all my own utensils and all of my own drink (iced tea) refills
— loaded baked potato was below average. Potato was under done and therefore, tough. Sour cream was warm and runny. Very little butter applied. Pulled beef tasted like a poor cut of chuck roast on the brink of going bad; had a slightly off taste that was not seasoning.
I routinely pass out 4 and even 5 star ratings to other restaurants so I am not fussy and finicky.
But, lack of service and bad food are hard to overlook.

Let me set the scene for you. It was St. Patrick’s day and my friends and I were mid (self-​defined) pub crawl and stopped in here. It was pretty empty. This was an early stop, so we weren’t in full drinking-​holiday-​obnoxious mode yet. We just ordered a couple of pounds of crawfish and spun the shot wheel. It landed on something that didn’t sound tasty so we manipulated the wheel so that it landed on Tuaca lemon drops. Yum. The bartender told us «I don’t even know how to make that.» She figured it out and she made it right (the ingredients are on the shot wheel after all), but it seemed like it was such an inconvenience to her. Our crawfish came. Not good. I’m not a native, so I’m no crawfish connoisseur, but I do know that if I’d had those the first time I tried them, I would never have tried them again.
This place seems to have good reviews. I frequent Midtown establishments, but had never been. Perhaps it was an off day. Apparently I need to go back and try the burgers.

TEXAS TECH/​VIRGINIA TECH bar during football (and maybe basketball) season, great atmosphere with Alumni from each school.
DO NOT GET DRAUGHT BEER. While watching games, the pitcher special was very enticing, but satisfaction came at a price. The beer, no matter what kind, is skunky. We would order Dos Equis or Bud Light draught pitchers during the games. Result: Skunky. I decided to go ahead and get a Stella Artois draught. Result: Also Skunky. Just stick to the bottles or whatever else floats your boat, and you’ll be fine. The prices are manageable as well.
Crawfish is below average (small, soft, not spicy), potatoes and corn weren’t spicy, and there was no cocktail sauce.

This was my second selection on my 2013 Burger Adventure and I was pleasantly surprised and glad I stopped in.
My cousin has been tagging along on my burger adventure and we had a place in mind when we started out, but when we got there it was really crowded and had no place to sit. Great burger or not we were hungry and didn’t care for the long wait and the lack of space. So, I got on my phone and did a search for «hamburgers» and Hefley’s was one of the places that came up. So we just took a shot in the dark and chose Hefley’s. It was on a Sunday, just after noon and we arrived right after they opened up for the day.
Now, I have to say I was a little skeptical, but bar food is often some of the best. To me it was worth the try and well, I was hungry. We sat at the bar, placed our order. I had the Michael Berry Burger with the sweet potato fries and my cousin had the Shiner and we enjoyed a beer and a hard cider while we waited. I was in heaven because I seldom visit a place that has hard cider. As we waited we had a pleasant conversation with our bartender. That was one of the highlights and I am ashamed to a say I forgot his name. I do know he was also the general manager.
We had a short wait and our burgers arrived and smelled great! It wasn’t the best burger I’ve ever had, but it was a good burger. Now that I have other comparisons I can say this burger fits somewhere in the middle, not the best, but not bad. The only thing lacking was that it needed some salt and pepper. Other than that it was a pretty darn good. The higher rating is also based on the place in general. The bartender made our trip worth it because he was just an all around nice and pleasant guy. That in itself adds to the pleasure and made the visit more enjoyable. A great place to sit down and enjoy a beer (or mixed drink) and have great food.
Hefley’s does a pretty steady business food wise and that to me is always a good sign, although as a friend pointed out sometimes it’s misleading. I didn’t find it to be the case here.
Thank you Michael Berry for the great burger named after you. The Shiner burger was just as good and my cousin had no complaints at all and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Will I go back? Yep, most likely. It was not the be all end all of burgers, but certainly good and worth another trip.

Hefley’s is one of my favorite locations in midtown for both dinner and drinks. They’ve only been open for about a year now. I really think more people need to know about this place. It’s 2 stories and everything is woodgrain, giving it a «western style» look. The door handles to the bathroom are old colt 45 pistols! This place is huge; there is always room to sit. They have an outside patio and a bar upstairs and downstairs. This is an ideal location for large groups.
I normally find myself here on Wednesday nights. They have an awesome deal on chicken wings. You’ll find plenty of bars in this area with wing specials on Wednesday nights. However, I think Hefley’s has the best deal.
Wednesday is also karaōke night. I was never a fan of karaōke until I starting coming to Hefley’s. They have this laid back atmosphere and it made for the perfect spot for me to try singing in public for the first time. I’ve been going back almost every week.
They also have a full menu packed with unique dishes! My favorite so far has been the Shiner burger. They named it this because the onions have been caramelized in Shiner beer! They serve it on a jalapeño and cheddar cheese bun, I have never seen this anywhere else.
If you’re looking for a chill, spacious bar with good service and friendly people, you need to visit here. Come for drinks, dinner, sporting events. It’s not wild but the people here like to party. I don’t really enjoy super crowded places, but I do want a place that is lively. Hefley’s is the perfect combination and it’s one of the few locations around here where I can actually relax AND have a good time.

On UFC fight nights, my group of friends can usually be found in one place watching the festivities: Woodrow’s midtown. It wasn’t our favorite and we hated the lack of liquor & food but we made do because it was a convenient central location for all. However, a month or two ago we were invited to try out Hefley’s and we were instant fans.
I’m not exactly the «let’s pound some beers at a sports bar» type of girl but Hefley’s is a hit with me and my friends. The upstairs bar (and basically, the two tables in front of the giant TV) have become our little spot to watch sport and fight events. The bartenders serve mean Tanqueray & tonics but can also «girly» up a shot when needed. And the food… where do I begin? The last fight night, our group of 15 ordered rounds and rounds of wings, onion rings, fried mushrooms, fried pickles, pizza, burgers… you name it and we ate it!
The standout bar food that we can all agree on here are the honey bourbon wings. When the group knows we’re headed to Hefley’s for the weekend all everyone can talk (& Tweet) about are several variations of «craving Hefley’s honey bourbon wings,» «lemming for those wings,» and my all time favorite, «saving my Weight Watchers points for those damn wings!» They’re that delicious and if you’re lucky, they may just be 25 cents for the night!
And lastly, for the ladies out there, the upstairs women’s restroom at Hefley’s is CLEAN. What more could one ask for.
