I had a great experience I came into town from Dallas for my friends birthday. Casey and Frankie modified an unsafe tandem bike so it would safe also so I would be able to ride it even with a disability these made my weekend unforgettable!!! Very cool and friendly guys with great prices and cool custom shirts

I have had fantastic experiences at Ham’s Cycles.
I have been here a few times off and on in the last couple of years for various minor needs, mostly inner tubes on a weekend. The last three times though were for help with a road bike I bought on craigslist. The bike needed new tires, new tubes, and a few other minor things.
Suffice to say I botched half of the easy stuff and went back asking what to do, and Ham’s helped me out. Mind you I am NOT an avid cyclist, am clueless about the basics until recently, and am probably the analogue of the guy who walks into amoeba records and asks for celine dion tapes.
Today I walked in asking for some advice and the same gentleman helped me swap my wheels out, gave me free advice on my brakes, and didn’t make me feel like a moron.
I will be going back to this place to get work done for these reasons, again bare in mind i dont know about the fancy carbon fiber racing super bikes or bmx trick bikes. I bike with friends and my wife in the neighborhood and am slowly starting to consider biking to work.
1) they are close and easy to access on Dunlavy
2) their prices are absolutely reasonable or lower than expected
3) the people that work there are all very tolerant of ignorance, but even if they werent i would go back, they are knowledgeable and honest
4) i have been into other bike shops in various places. if you are not a bike enthusiast you often feel like the employees dont even see you. that is not the case here, thought you will still feel like a moron if you are clueless like i am.
go to hams. you will feel terrific.

The service was quick and decently priced. Some of the guys were nice one guy was just way too cool for school. The supplies we’re limited, however, they do have a nice service shop in the back. Overall, the experience was great, but they just don’t have the space to make it truly a one stop shop for bike related products and services. Word of advise: don’t get ripped off by their candy dispenser. I paid a quarter for three M&Ms. Shame!

No mountain bikes, but plenty of road bikes! A bit pricy but a really fun place!

I’ve never bought anything here but I think it’s a really fun place to check out awesome bikes! The story behind the name is pretty cool too!

I completely ruined the back brake on my bike. I’m relatively new to the area, so I found this place on Unilocal.I figured I’d leave the bike for a full tune-​up, which costs $ 49.99. The next day the mechanic called me and said that other than the brake, the rest of the bike was in pretty good condition, so he only charged me $ 35. He also answered my questions on the phone about how my brake could have ended up the way it did. Very helpful.

It’s a great shop and the staff is very personable and helpful. The guy assisting me knew I was buying parts from online to build a bike and did not mind as he was helping me with what parts I would be needing. (Keep in mind what I am specifically looking for in a bike they did not carry).I bought a handlebar only to find out that my cousin had already ordered me one so when he gave it to me I felt really bad but they refunded it no problem. Needless to say, I will be having them build my bike. They have a great selection of fixed gear bikes and other bicycles for those who are either starting off or seasoned cyclists. They are also Cinelli dealers so if you have the money to shell out for one, this is the place to go.

So after to moving to Houston and living next to a bike trail decided it was time to get one and see if I could get in shape. Went to several different cycle stores and was really impressed with Ham Cycles. They spent time to explain each bike and were not pushing to sell at all and just took there time to help us. We ended up buying two bike from them and could not be more happy.

Great place and good service. Me and my gf came by to look at single gear/​Fg bicycle and Patrick and Andrew were very informative and helpful. Also let us customize the wheels to her liking. Would def recommend this spot

I gotta say these guys here are the best, not only did they let me come in late to buy a last min wheel for polo but the allowed me to install it as they closed the shop hats off to this crew

Stopped by the other day to ask them about Linus and other city bikes. Appreciated the help and advice they gave me. Great neighborhood bike shop.

Some shops, no matter the products they sell, just have «it». No one quite knows was «it» is, but you know it when you see it. Needless to say HAM Cycles had it.
The shop stays true to Montrose, the neighborhood it serves. Authentically Houston.
No nonsense, get the job done. I’ve never seen them turn away or turn up a nose to a customer no matter how crappy their bike they bring in to be serviced. The mechanic is a magic worker, getting a low end huffy in rolling shape to getting my BMC road bike dialed in and race ready. Dude can do it all.
Pops of luxury. Houston’s only Cinelli dealer they can set you up on a single speed/​fixed gear that will up your street credits as you swang down Westheimer. Balling on a budget? They got you covered too with State and Retrospec. Cruising up Heights Blvd more your speed? They have a Dutch style city bikes for the distinguished café/​brunch commuter. Also, their in-​house and locally designed clothing will set you apart from the masses.
There’s plenty of bike shops in this city, you could go to any sterile big box store and have a good enough experience. Or you could come through the realest shop in Houston and support a locally owned business, and on top of that, you got a bike!

I stopped in to buy some lights for my bike. Apparently, they sell USB-​powered lights which is fantastic because I don’t think I’ve bought batteries in years. The staff were super helpful and even let me charge up the lights in the store so I could wear them home. That’s definitely above and beyond the call of duty and it was very appreciated.

One of my favorite shops in town. Personable and friendly staff, a very talented mechanic and a great selection of products that aren’t as common as everywhere else. Plus they make a lot of their own products and support the local Montrose cycling community probably more so than almost any other shop. Good dudes!

I dropped of my road bike for a chain replacement, while I was there I mentioned that my left shifter was not working properly. The employee told me that he would repair the chain and take a look at the shifter to try and fix it. Left my contact information, they said they would call me when it was all done.
A couple of weeks pass by and I have not heard from the shop. I decided to give them a call to check on my bike. The mechanic working on my bike told me that he had already replaced the chain and that he was working on the shifter.
I stop by the next day (on a Friday) and found my bike with the old chain and the left shifter dis-​assembled. The guy at the counter told me that the mechanic was out for the weekend. That is when I find out decided to take my bike from this so called «bike shop». Later found that the mechanic ruined my shifter by dis-​assembling it. Now I have to buy a set of shifters. Thanks for nothing Ham Cycles!

This is a rare thing in Houston: a bike shop that caters both to urban cyclists and those who like speedy road bikes. The owner/​person I met inside (Frankie?) seems to really know his stuff. I appreciate that they like the aesthetics of the bike and not merely the gear itself. I really dislike some of the other bike shops in Houston (one in Rice Village) where they act like they know everything and haven’t heard of city cycling in New York or Chicago, where the trends are for upright bikes, etc. They carry Surly, Linus and other gorgeous bikes. Nice Giro stuff inside, and a great minimalist finish to the shop (wood).

bike shops are pretty cool places, and of all neighborhoods in the city that should have a good one, montrose tops the list. ham cycles is exactly what a montrose bike shop should should be, encapsulating all that makes houston houston — friendly people, good prices for quick and professional service and great location. these guys love bikes and they love riding them and will do their best to make sure that you love riding yours. in a city that’s long held a reputation for being an awful place to bike, these guys will help get you outfitted for braving the actually-​not-​so-​intimidating streets and inject a little bit more fun in your life.
they also design and sell some seriously awesome t-​shirts and jerseys that reflect houston (and specifically, montrose) pride. these guys live houston and bike houston and are great ambassadors for our awesome city. also, where else can you pick up a sweet cinelli?

Great little bike shop in the heart of Montrose. They sale and service all types of bikes. They specialize in track bikes and accessories. The owner and mechanic are both very helpful and knowledgeable about all types of bikes. They’re the only place in Houston you’ll find Cinelli bikes. I’ve personally bought 2 bikes from here and ready for my 3^rd. You can never have too many bikes. One last thing, the owner of the shop does a lot to promote cycling in Houston by holding races and sponsoring other bike events around town.
