This facility had good reviews but I think those reviews are paid for or staff putting them out! Nevertheless do some heavy duty research before putting a loved one there! They are understaffed and obviously dont care about anything but money! Horrible place and a nightmare!

I’ve been to many a residential facility all over town. This one is one of the best from what I could see, in terms of friendliness, helpfulness, cleanliness. I was afraid for my friend who is very independent, as to how she would adjust in a facility, even though it’s temporary. She loves this place. She couldn’t say enough nice things about the staff, the care, the residents. She feels safe, she feels cared for, she made friends quickly with the other residents. She is happy here. She gets the rehab she needs. There are lots of classes available, such as chair yoga. I didn’t eat here, but she said the food leaves a lot to be desired but everyone that lives in any facility I’ve visited says that. Don’t worry about it, no one will go hungry. I’ve eaten at facilities like this. Pinch… yep, still alive. There’s a little ice cream parlor here, not sure when it’s open but it was cute as could be. Lots of seating in the lobby, comfy sofas, a smaller private dining area for more intimate occassions, several areas within the building just to hang out. Rooms are what you’d expect. She’s in the D section, so they are large enough for a bed and bathroom, and a little elbow room. The receptionist was beyond helpful and friendly. This wasn’t just a job for her, she really knew and cared a lot about the needs of residents I saw a sign up sheet for employee massages!!! Score!!! and the lobby was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Only down side and it’s not Garden Terrace’s fault. Cambridge Street is in horrible disrepair. It’s been worked on a lot — evidenced by all the tar and gravel patches and uneven grading — but dang! Heads up if you transporting a person in pain or fragile bone structure. They may be in worse shape by the time you get here.

No one wants to have to endure putting a loved one in a residential facility even if it’s temporary. My grandmother is 97 years old and suffers from Alzheimer’s. It is not a pretty thing to have to watch someone you admire and wish to emulate for their independents and their strength to all of the sudden have to depend on you. To have someone who has taken care of you numerous times need you to take care of them is a very real and scary fact of life for many people. Fortunately, there are places like Garden Terrace of Houston. This place provided my grandmother and the rest of my family some comfort in our time of need. While my grandmother was their they made sure she had every need and desire met. They made sure to discuss with me everyday I came what was her status, the activities she either was or most likely not(because she’s stubborn) participating in. They comforted my uncle who was clearly not handling the temporary placement well. They made sure that her medication was given and notified me when a refill was needed. They coordinate transportation for my grandmother to get there. They created meals according to my grandmother’s specific diet(which now is mostly sweets, because that’s all she wants. Hell, at 97 years old who can blame you?) My point is that I would not wish this situation on anybody; not even my worst enemy. However, if you happen to be going through this very situation and are struggling to come up with a solution. Or if you’re the primary caretaker and just need a break. I am recommending that you give Garden Terrace of Houston a call.
