Highlights: Low prices Speedy service Pretty okay food *Dine out ONLY* I recently moved to the area, and First Wok is now my go-to for Chinese food delivery. The service is fast, the food is good, and the prices are good. It’s not the best I’ve ever had, but it’s good enough to be my favorite Chinese place in the area.

I ordered delivery at 4:50pm and we didn’t get our food until 6pm. I ordered orange chicken and the chicken had no orange flavor to it. My meal didn’t come with an egg roll like the menu said it would. The fried rice was pretty good… I guess you get what you pay for. The delivery man was very sweet though!

I usually don’t eat this what us Chinese people consider Chinese/American food. To us Chinese dim sum or Chinese hot pot is consider more authentic. But there are times I do crave for some regular Chinese food. My mom makes great Chinese food when I was a kid. Like beef and broccoli. Beef soft noodle mein shrimp or beef fried rice and you get the point. Now this place is awesome great taste and it’s cheap. Why it’s cheap. Not because bad quality but it’s mainly no overhead. When you go to a regular restaurant with waitress or waiter and you dine in you’d be paying a lot more like $ 8 or $ 9 for small dish of beef and broccoli and etc. So as from Chinese aspect yes this is a great take out place. There food is cooked to perfection with sauces and everything. I love it here you can watch them cook your food. Jet Li

This was my first time here, and am not disappointed. HUGE portions of food and very affordable! I got the shrimp egg fu young which came with fried rice and a lot of sauce on the side, along with an egg drop soup. It was delicious and just what I wanted. Very friendly and close to home. I will be back to try more things!

First Wok was super cheap, and the price is great! It only took 25 minutes, from the time I called till when I received my order. I ordered the Orange Chicken dinner combo that comes with rice and an eggroll. The fried rice was SUPERMEDIOCRE. The orange chicken was good and I loved the spice to it, however if you let it sit out for more than 5 minutes the sauce turns gooey. It was strange. Regardless it was quick, it was what I wanted, and all mixed up I enjoyed it. I definitely want to try out other chinese takeout locations though!

Finally, this place has brought back the best fried rice in Houston, IMHO. For a while a few years back, I think it changed cook and the fried rice didn’t taste as good as before. The fried rice right amount of wok char and soy sauce, and don’t forget to add an over well egg! No place to eat in, so call 1st for your order or wait for a few minutes. Service is quick and efficient. A hidden gem in the neighborhood with a delivery service available in case you are kinda lazy to pick up.

The best thing about First Wok is… they’re cheap. In the Galleria area, or a bit outside of it, you won’t find anything much more affordable. Trust me; I looked. The place does not deliver outside a small radius(though Feng Ling, across the street, does deliver to my address), but you can call in ahead of time. If you swing by and tell them your order, it doesn’t take long for them to finish it up for you. However, be warned — the complex it’s located in, behind two strip clubs nonetheless, isn’t the safest place. I’m a young female who often went alone, and I was never troubled, and I didn’t have any trouble with car break-ins either. HOWEVER, if you’re going at night, there will be several clusters of men in dark hoodies who sometimes get you to come over. Which I think everyone knows is a bad idea; I’d suggest just waiting inside the place if your order isn’t ready, or walking around the convenience store next door. Inside, the place is NOT eat-in, so don’t expect that — it’s actually a plus; limited delivery and no eat-in are what keep the prices down. And the area, I’d think. It’s not necessarily dirty, but there are piled up cardboard boxes to the side and remnants of duct tape on the windows. You can see the kitchen and cooking in process, and that’s definitely clean. So, isn’t that what really matters? The owners are friendly. They won’t disturb your privacy, but if you’re a regular, they’ll talk to you occasionally and get to know your typical order. If you share more about yourself and like small talk, they’re also game. You can also ask for custom orders, sort of. My boyfriend is Chinese and liked more traditional food, but doesn’t always want to wait around for it in a restaurant, or travel down towards Sharpstown etc. Sometimes I’ll ask for something to be cooked more authentically, and they’ll usually do so. I’ve noticed the owner eating his own concoction that isn’t on the menu, so they’ve got some creativity if you’re interested in exploring it. As for the food? I’ve always been happy with it. NOTE: I’m a SIMPLE eater. So the simpler the food, the better. I get steamed chicken and broccoli with wonton soup — clearly nothing ‘special,’ but always cooked perfectly to how I want it.(My Chinese boyfriend is less impressed, but keep in mind, this is a typical takeout joint — you’re going to get simple, typical, takeout). I would say that I don’t recommend the steamed dumplings(inside is weird and grainy) or the hot and sour soup(a bit oily, very thin). But those are my only reservations. RECAP: – Takeout [Very limited delivery, no eat-in] – Cheapest you’ll get in the area: good prices – Food ready pretty quickly and orders filled accurately – Typical takeout quality; nothing special – Friendly owners, talk if you want to, give you privacy if you don’t – BUT: AREANOTVERYSAFE [take careful measures at night]

I tried this place because it had pretty good reviews but I was disappointed. We ordered a few things to try because it was so reasonably price. It took over an hour for my delivery and the 3 dishes all tasted the same. Eggrolls were super greasy. The combo fried rice and egg drop soup was pretty good. I wont be ordering from there again.

I was a little hesitant to try First Wok due to the mixed reviews, but I must say that I am extremely happy that I gave it a chance! The man who took my to-go order(I’m assuming he is the owner) was very professional. He repeated my address and phone number and gave me an accurate estimate of time– 45 min when I ordered at 8. When the food arrived, exactly 45 minutes later, it was still warm and oh so good. I ordered the orange chicken combo. It came with an egg roll, which I don’t like, and fried rice. The chicken chunks were huge and covered in just the right amount of spicy orange sauce. To top it off, my total was only $ 5.90; no delivery charge. You just can’t beat that!

I ordered the Hot and Sour soup and the House Special Lo Mein. The soup was not to my liking as it did not taste like anything I was expecting but I love the amount of mushrooms that were in the soup. There were no bamboo shoots in the soup which I was looking forward to and kinda disappointed. The Lo Mein had plenty of meat and veggies in it and was seasoned to perfection. The price was amazing, $ 1 for a bowl of soup, so I can not complain and do believe I will give them another try with other dishes. I like the fact that they were able to deliver my food within 40 minutes during the busy lunch hour and they do not have a minimum for delivery.

I found this place through Unilocal, and was severely disappointed after what seemed to be so hyped from previous customer reviews. I ordered sesame chicken, orange chicken, and fried rice. It was very inconsistent in taste, and sometimes had me wondering what piece of the chicken I was eating.

I would NEVER give them my money. I’m from NYC where we have some of the Best Chinese Food & they give good customer service. This shaby place has horrible customer service. I called to place a order for take out. The guy informed me that they were closing in 30mins but since I’m staying right up the block they would take my order. So I ordered a Sm shrimp fried rice with 4 chicken wings. I told the guy I want my wings chopped & he told me they don’t do that. If I wanted«CHOPPEDWINGS» I have to buy Buffalo Wings! That’s Crazy I never heard anything like that before. So, I told him I don’t want Buffalo wings, I just want regular fried Chicken wings & that idiot HungUp the phone on me. I called back to give the benefit of doubt that maybe the phone disconnected, but No! That asshole excuse my language. Picked up the phone yelling saying they are Not going to Deliver my order & that they are Closed. Like Really??! Lol the place Clearly don’t close until 10& they are lucky that I am starving or I would’ve taken my butt over there & been really Ghetto!!! But that’s not my style. Just know that they will never get a dollar from me. ZEROSTARS!!!

I ordered the orange chicken and general tso’s chicken with no spice. They tasted the same. But MANWASITDELICIOUS!!! I have been all over Houston, San Antonio, and Victoria, looking for Chinese food as good as Connecticut. This place gets a thumbs up from a northern gal. The fried rice was also really good. I got the dinner combo that came with an egg roll. Wasn’t too excited about it, kinda blah. But the chicken and rice were so good!

I live super close to this restaurant and I’m so thankful. For those days that I’m too lazy to cook and craving Chinese food, this place is awesome for me. The shrimp fried rice is very good. My favorite soup is the Hot and Sour Soup. Sour and Spicy just right. Price is cheap. $ 1 for a small cup of soup. Try to beat that. As for the other guy who complained that they use cheap oil… I used to work in a high end Chinese restaurant near the Galleria(Hunan Restaurant off Post Oak Blvd near Hermes) and they use cheap oil too. Their prices? Like $ 10-$ 15 per dish. Overall I like this place. Yes, the soup can get too salty sometimes, but that does not deter me from ordering.

Just like all the review it, the place is a hole in the wall. First time eating here and it was pretty good. Wish there was more meat in my dish but overall pretty good.
