Awful!!! If negative stars were an option, I would give them! This place is not for people of color. I went with 2 of my friends who pass for Caucasian on Friday Eve July 16th, 2015. The bartender examined my ID for a full five minutes, while barely glancing at my «white» friends’ ID. Then, she refused to serve me. My friend asked for 3 beers for all 3 of us. Bartender serves 2 beers, to the ones who look more white, and ignores me. My friend reminds the bartender of the third beer, and the bartender gives is to the white man next to me. Blatant racism. Don’t support hate and bullshit, Houston. Boycott this hateful, disrespectful, racist establishment.

The Dutchman is a quintessential neighborhood watering hole for the long time residents around the Oak Forest/Garden Oaks area. It is a no frills kind of joint where everyone will turn around and look at you when you come in, but a few howdies and respectful words will thaw the ice. You never know what kind of conversation you’ll get in too. This is not a place you bring a fancy woman who appreciates fancy things. This is the kind of place you bring a woman who knows baseball and football, can curse like a sailor, hits like a man, makes love like a wild woman, and likes the taste of the beer. If you are opposed to any of those things feel free to go on down the street to quaff your thirst with a handcrafted cocktail. I was here for less than 30 minutes before I knew the bartender and the owner and most of the regulars present. They were a hoot. Leave your prejudices at the door, check any pretension while you’re at it. Play a game of pool, throw a game of darts, hang out on the patio, and enjoy a cheap beer to the sound of the game machines.

Cheap, $ 2.50 domestics and a total dive. The average age here is a few generations older than me and they serve their Bud Light in cans. If you’re into the small bar dive scene, then you need to go decide for yourself… however, I’ll spend my money somewhere else on Wakefield.

The Dutchman is a great little neighborhood bar, It’s a family run business where you can get a pretty cold Bud for $ 2.50. The regulars there are super friendly. The inside isn’t huge and fairly dark. I like hanging out on the ever expanding patio. There’s even a window to order your beer, so you don’t have to stray far from your seat!
