I researched this salon a couple of years ago and decided this was the place I was going to treat myself at. I had zero color in my hair and wanted some highlights so I was super picky about where to go, I didn’t want to regret dying my virgin hair. I read their entire website and decided to email a couple of their stylists. NO REPLY. Figuring they were very busy due to all their good reviews, I patiently waited. I waited about a year and never heard back. Figured it wasn’t meant to be at the time. Emailed another stylists from their site a year later. Again, no reply. I was kinda aggravated that nobody wrote me back to at least say they were booked, or to refer me to someone else. After waiting a couple more months I decided to try one more time. Third times the charm, right?
That’s when Wil texted me back right away! I was SO HAPPY! We set up a time right away and I went in the following week. I was prepared to wait a while to get an appointment, but he was willing to work with my schedule.
I felt welcomed immediately. I was pumped. I brought in a picture of the color I wanted, and he spent time discussing my ideas and then gave his opinion which I welcomed. I didn’t feel rushed, I felt like he was just as excited as I was for my change. I appreciate being made to feel welcome. I loved my end result, and felt I had made a friend in Wil by the time I left. I will be back to see Wil very soon. Thank you for turning my not so great first impression around completely and making me a happy camper.

Grace Goodson is so awesome. Today was the second time she did my hair — ombré and trim. I have dark, curly hair and wanted a change, but was scared of bleach. she is very knowledgeable and listened to my concerns and made me feel comfortable. she explained the entire process, kept making sure she understood what I wanted and I love my hair. it is amazing. I would highly recommend Grace.

This place might be good, but I don’t think their customer service is. Almost disrespectful. I reached out to Brandi who gave me one word responses in regards to booking appts. None of the dates worked for her and she didn’t even make an effort to get me in. In fact she said, «why don’t you just try xxxxxx or xxxxxx person» after several emails. Def didn’t make a good first impression. I will not be contacting this salon again.

I have been going to Ashley at Do or Dye for almost two years now. She is amazing! A couple years ago I wanted the trendy ombré hair color, so I booked an appointment at Visible Changes in the Galleria making sure to tell them multiple times that I wanted ombré, I even brought in pictures. What I ended up with was not ombré, but highlights. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t what I wanted. I began to dive into the internet and research hair stylists that specialize in the ombré technique. I was immediately directed to Do or Dye, it seemed like the entire salon specialized in this technique. Done.
I called the main number listed on the website and spoke with a nice lady (I now know as Alex), and she explained to me that the stylists are all independent and to schedule an appointment you must contact them directly. Contact information is on the website. I ended up talking to Ashley; she specializes in curly textured hair and ombré! Yes! I had to wait about 2 months for an appointment (she books up fast), but it was worth the wait. When I finally got into Ashley’s chair she looked at my hair, talked with me about what I want, we discussed where I want my style to go long-​term and well as what I wanted right now. She listened and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I left her chair feeling beautiful. Couldn’t be happier or luckier to have found her.
I am the type of person that goes to a different salon every couple of months, and can’t commit to a stylist; well I used to be that person. Almost two years later and I have not strayed or cheated on Ashley. My hair is the best it has ever looked; I get compliments all the time. She has taught me how to wear it so that my natural curls will shine and not look frizzy. (I used to straighten my hair every day, now I only straighten it 2 or 3 times a week.) I have graduated from ombré to balayage color technique and Ashley has rolled with the flow and kept my hair looking beautiful the entire time.

I’ve been going to Lindsey at Do or Dye for almost a year now! I found them on Unilocal/​Instagram.
First off, my hair was not virgin hair and had been dyed many times before. I had a darker brown and wanted a bright copper so I first reached out to Brandi. At Do or Dye they self schedule and are realistic with you about your expectations. She ended up referring me to Lindsey who had time to schedule me in the month that I wanted.
We started with a copper to blonde balayage when I had long hair. The cut and color turned out fabulous and I loved it. I continued to go back over the course of the year and expressed how I wanted to try a LOB (long bob), and especially since I trusted Lindsey with my hair at this point. With no regrets she made it look just as good. Also, she’s been nothing but understanding about my night shift schedule and super considerate about scheduling me in the afternoon, and of course offering me coffee as soon as I walk in. Love! I’ll continue to go see Lindsey for years to come, she’s sweet and we click.

My happy place! Grace Goodson is a master and she keeps me smiling and laughing. Bonus: beer or wine comes with your service. All the stylists there are super sweet and talented.

I hardly ever write reviews, and I try to stay positive in my life. I know that styling people´s hair and doing it good is a very admirable and hard thing to do, setting aside vain. I was really looking forward to going to do or dye and get styled by some of these awesome stylists. Sadly they never returned any of my several emails, texts and calls. Then I thought maybe I should take my money somewhere else, I was not looking for any charity I was going to pay good money. I had no idea how hard it is to book and appointment and I understand they might have a busy life, but a little courtesy never killed anyone. I send all my good vibe to everyone at do or dye and may your business grow for many years.

The only reason they aren’t getting 1 star is you can tell the stylists here are skilled and experienced, and I’ve had a good experience here before. However, I was rescheduled once with 2-​hours notice and cancelled on by email without even a phone call, forcing me to find someone last-​minute on a Saturday afternoon right before I left for my wedding in Florida. Not Cool. Considering their strict 24-​hour policies on cancellations and 100% charges on no-​shows, I would expect the same courtesy. They’ve lost my business.

I have only been here once, but so far I am a fan. I moved to the area all the way from NJ and was way overdue for a haircut. I made an appointment with Jodi based on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed! As with any new hair stylist, I was a bit uneasy at first, but Jodi took the time to hear me out and made sure I was happy. The salon overall has a very laid back vibe. They also have super cool hair washing stations (you get to lay down) which alleviates that awkward ‘is my head in the sink?’ ‘I’m getting a neck cramp’ moment.

I went in for an ombré/​balayage color service with Brandi. I texted her a picture of my hair beforehand, and a picture of what I wanted to get. She was friendly, but began to start right away before even talking to me about what I wanted. So, we began by having miscommunications right off.
I wanted a red brown base color with blond balayage highlights. My hair was naturally brown at the roots and red brown at the ends because of grown out box dye color.
She wanted to just give me red brown and blonde balayage highlights, instead of doing the base red brown color. I stated multiple concerns about having a rainbow of brown, blonde, and red hair, but she told me not to worry, and that she wouldn’t let me leave the salon a mess.
Apparently it’s not possible to get the roots dyed at the same time because of the way they do balayage at their salon. They TEASE the hair up, they do not paint the dye on like some other salons. It hurt… I had Brandi, another stylist, and myself all working to untangle my hair from the teasing for over an hour.
I liked the red, but my blonde ended up being orange, while the highlights looked grown out, as if I hadn’t been to a salon in months. I voiced my concerns and Brandi recommended using purple shampoo for a couple of weeks. I paid $ 400 before leaving.
I texted her after a few weeks of using purple shampoo, still not happy. But she said she just did what I wanted, and that I should have complained before leaving the salon…
Well, NOW I know I should kick up more of a fuss at salons if I’m unhappy with something, and just leave if they can’t do the style I request. I regret spending so much money here, then spending money on purple shampoo, color corrector from Sally’s, and finally 3 boxes of hair dye to get my hair back to how it was BEFORE going to this salon.

It’s been over a year since I last reviewed Do or Dye and my love for this place has not wavered.
The salon and their stylist are always super easy to get in touch with and try their very best to work with your schedule. I have never had a hard time scheduling an appointment (I am a last minute scheduler). Even during this holiday season they were able to get me in before my Christmas party!
The salon is always spotless and never had that awful chemically smell that permeates the walls of other salons. Someone is always sweeping up continuously.
They carry high quality products all of which they are super knowledgeable about and will guide you to the perfect product to keep you looking your best.
In addition to hair care they also do makeup application as well as eyelash extensions.
If you are looking for a high quality salon offering the best of all services look no further than Do Or Dye!

I have spent 4 days trying to get an appointment at this salon. I have contacted one of the owners for an appointment and she went back and forth with me over text, asked me for pics of my hair so she could determine how much time would be needed, but I haven’t heard from her since I sent the pics (I just have normal long hair). So I tried emailing another stylist, no reply. I don’t get it. I have spent 4 days TRYING to do something that should take less than 5 minutes.
Update: The other stylist finally sent me an email 3 days later saying he could fit me in on the date I requested. But by this time, I had already booked an appointment with another stylist in the Heights area (via online booking). I did get a private message via Unilocal from the owner who responded down below apologizing for the inconvenience and giving me a list of other salons that I should contact. There was no offer to get me booked in her salon in that message. By the way, if you are still hunting for a good stylist, try calling Douglas in the Heights. He has a Unilocal review so you can find his contact info there. He has a small salon on the same property as his house. He was able to cut my hair and add highlights in about 2 hours. And he has online booking and responds to emails/​phone calls in a timely manner.
I have friends who go to Do or Dye and they highly recommended it. I think once they get their online booking situation figured out, it might be worthy of more stars. I just can’t say that from experience.

Decided to make an appt here based on the numerous 5 star reviews and make the trek from Galveston. First of all, you have to schedule with each stylist individually and it can be a hard to get a hold of someone. Contacted several people and did not hear back from majority of them. Lindsey did reply quickly, thus ended up scheduling an appt with her. She did a fine job, however did I think it was worth the hefty price tag? No probably not. I was not thrilled with how she styled my hair and probably could have gotten the same hair cut for a lower price and not drive for an hour. She was fun to talk too and recommended some good products for my hair. The salon is definitely a cool space, but a bit hard to find. Does not seem pretentious like some other salons in Houston. Thankfully there is ample parking despite being in the Washington area.

Do or Dye is a very warm, comfortable place, and everyone is friendly and helpful.
I have followed my facial person, Marissa, all over town, for the past 19 years! Yes, 19 years! She is wonderful. I think Do or Dye is the best place. The place is always busy and upbeat. Marissa is awesome! Just try her once and you will agree. She gives the best facial ever. I love her and will continue to go to her. She does new techniques, tries new products on the face, and the newest addition, the light therapy, is fantastic! She also gives a great massage.
All the hairstylists look great. They are always busy. I highly recommend Do or Dye!

One star is based on customer service. I wasn’t able to connect with an actual stylist after reaching out to 4 of them. I am left with the impression they must be very busy and so far up their own a$$, they can’t be bothered with a new client? (You have to call or text the stylists directly to book an appointment.)
Do or Dye is a Total Time Suck
I ended up scheduling an appointment at a different salon that had a responsive receptionist. Easy peasy.

I browsed the website and balked as I realized it would be a month before I could get an appointment with the stylist I wanted. I wondered if this was economics at work. Maybe, she was super crafty and realized that if you create an artificial shortage you can create a demand… then, I realized I was overthinking it and booked the appointment.
Each of the stylists book their own appointments and you need to either text them or use a website to book an appointment. I like the option of dealing with as little personal interaction as possible, so you’re not worried that you’re bothering someone or interrupting something.
I arrived at 9am on a Saturday morning. The staff was friendly and asked if I would be interested in a beverage. The space has an open layout and they use painted pipework to hold up the mirrors that are propped up in front of every stylist.
Jodi was very friendly and had a welcoming demeanor. We launched into a discussion on what I wanted to do. I had decided to chop off 10 inches of hair and instead of telling me I’d be more satisfied with a longer cut, she and I discussed how to build the best version of the haircut for my face.
As she was cutting my hair, she let me know that I needed a lot of little layers to make a seemingly «layerless» look. My long bob needed a lot of movement, so she needed to take out the dreaded razor. She double checked the length that I wanted and talked me through the process of shaping my hair.
She did a great job and made my experience educational as well as pleasant. She does one complimentary bang trim between appointments.

What a relief to find an awesome hair salon on my first try!
Having just moved, I had so many things to worry about, I started to neglect my hair needs, which just makes me feel worse.
I am very picky about my highlight color, so to leave my go-​to guy was like breaking up with a boyfriend all over again, but after I went through the 5 stages of grief, I knew I had to start the search. I found Do or Dye through Unilocal (more reasons to love it) and saw all the wonderful reviews on Jodi so I decided to give her a try. I could not be happier with the results, and noticing work the other stylists were doing, it doesn’t seem like you can go wrong with anyone here.
She was very helpful in asking me how my hair had been done before, and recommending new color tips to keep the color lasting longer with fewer visits. I love the color and the cut, and will be returning for all my future hair needs. It was not cheap by any means, but I’m the kind of girl who doesn’t cut corners when it comes to my hair, I mean… unless it’a a really cute cut.
