I was referred to Dr Barras by a coworker. My experience was great. The office staff is very friendly and my hygienist was awesome. The appt took a little bit but it was my first and I appreciated their thoroughness. It was a very very pleasant experience which says alot for me because I have the worst anxiety about going to the dentist! I have alot of work to be done however Dr Barras and his staff were very reassuring about doing what they can to make me comfortable through it all.

This review sounds like many of the others here, the staff is incredibly professional and nice and the office is lovely — they go the extra mile to make it seem spalike.
But he’s an awful dentist.
I went in for a cleaning and was told my fillings should be replaced because they COULD cause cracking later. I was also quoted over $ 10k worth of work, including invisalign.
The fillings he attempted to replace took multiple visits, because the first set of replacements he’d prepared didn’t fit. Removing the temporary replacement they’d put in (on an additional visit) was *the most painful dental experience of my life* and I had braces for MANY years.
Now, months later those teeth are still causing me pain.
I ran the other way, but now they call me constantly with deals and offers they have on.
It’s all about money.

Me again… just completed my four month exam and all’s well. Again I experienced the most thorough cleaning and examination; including oral cancer and jaw movements. Going to the dentist is never a fun experience; but this is a good as it gets! Dr. Barras and his staff is young so they will be around a long time so the continuity of care should be great. Thank you!

I absolutely love the office and the staff. I went in to see Dr Barras a couple of weeks ago for a new patient visit & the experience was exceptional. I would like to highlight the fact that the office has state of the art facilities, latest technology, and a personal touch (did I mention the hand wax & the cookies? ;)). Also, Dr Barras is completely honest when it comes to the treatment plan, his recommendations are clear and there is not a sales pitch attached to them. I am going back today for a filling & to schedule my Invisalign appointment for next year… :).

I have been a patient of Dr. Barras for several years. The office is beautiful and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. I just had my bi-​annual teeth cleaning with Bree and had a great experience as usual — she is super welcoming and always does a great job!

I went here for the first time last week. It was the most comprehensive dentist appointment I’ve ever had. All the staff were fantastic and everything ran like clock work. Highly recommended!

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Barras for a teeth cleaning. It was my first time in so there were many other procedures that were done that i wasn’t expecting. They pricked my gums for some kind of infection and took x-​rays and it took about 2 hours. Let me start by saying the staff is incredible, I don’t think I’ve ever felt more comfortable and welcomed. They truly wanted to get to know me and I hope this wasn’t just apart of their business and was sincere. They were also very knowledgable, which may not be saying much cause I know nothing about the practice of dentistry, but they sure seemed like it. After reading a couple other reviews, I noticed that others were mentioning that the staff tried to push products on their customers. I also had this experience, yet once I declined the product they stopped pursuing it. It’s just like any other business. Yes, they truly want what’s best for you but in order to stay operating and compete in the industry, they have to do more than clean teeth. However, I do agree the prices on their procedures are a little horrendous. $ 950 for plastic retainers and $ 750 for a deep cleaning that helps fight this certain infection. I can’t afford that and haven’t compared it to others so I’m not sure how it ranges elsewhere. Overall, I am pleased with the practice and will go back in the future. I didn’t pay anything out of pocket on my first visit.

Let me start out by saying the staff is friendly and the office is really nice, but don’t let that fool you. Worst experience I have ever had!
Dr barras initially suggested that I needed about $ 15,000 worth of work which was to include Invisalign. My first mistake is that I didn’t run when I heard this.
So, because I didn’t know better I went in July to have about $ 5000 (out of my own pocket) worth of crowns and inlays done. They had trouble getting the temporary crown off of one of the teeth and it felt is though my tooth was being pulled out — by his assistant, not by dr barras, which is one of my complaints is that a lot of the work is being done by his assistants and not by him. Nevertheless, the permanent crown was placed and the tooth continued to hurt when I would bite. Went back two additional times for this tooth alone for a crown adjustment but no relief.
On one of the other teeth I had to go back additional times because they initially screwed it up when attempting to put the permanent crown on. All together I was at his office 6 times in two and a half weeks.
Fast forward two months and the pain on my one tooth continued and I developed soareness on the other side when biting. I saw a new dentist last week who informed me that one of the crowns and one inlay do not fit since he is able to get his dental instrument between the crown/​inlay and tooth potentially leading to decay. He told me work like this would have never gone out of his office. He said that these two things needed to be replaced and offered to do them at his cost to help me out because of the exorbitant amount I spent already at dr barras. The new dentist did a crown adjustment this week on the tooth that had been hurting and the pain is already gone.
I’m not one to post negative things online but I felt people need to know about this dental office. The prices are ridiculous, work is being done that doesn’t need to be done and the work itself is terrible. Please don’t take my word alone. It looks like several others here on Unilocal have had similar experiences. Additionally, his office gives credit to your account when you post an online review for him so I’d take the stellar reviews out here with a grain of salt.

Just had my teeth cleaned by Ashley at Dr. Barras’ office. Cleanest but most gentle cleaning ever. Am I really saying I can’t wait to go back?

I’m re-​writing this review since I just got a message from Unilocal saying that they would remove it because they found it «it did not appear to describe a firsthand customer experience»… well here are the facts. I visited this clinic last July 2014 and my overall experience was very disappointing. Since I got to my appointment, everyone from the receptionist to Dr. Barras was trying to sell me a product or a complete treatment for my teeth. I did not feel that they were actually being honest since I’ve never had any problems with my teeth. I went for a simple cleaning and ended up with budgets for unnecessary treatments such as «Invisalign». The lady that gave the quotes at the very end, literally said that if I didn’t do the treatments that Dr. Barras was recommending, my teeth will fall off! I come from a family of Dentists (unfortunately none of them live in Houston) and like I said have never had one single caries and now according to these people my teeth will fall off if I don’t do their proposed cosmetic treatments??? If you are looking for an honest Dentist that will actually care about your teeth, stay away from this place.

The office is super clean and Dr. Barras and staff are extremely friendly and caring. They ultimately care about their patients well being as well as their dental health. Everything is explained thoroughly and the staff makes sure you understand. All of my questions were answered with complete detail and confidence. The latest technology in the office makes minor dental work like fillings and major dental work a breeze! Being someone who is nervous about going to the Dentist, Dr. Barras and his staff have totally turned that around for me! I highly recommend Dr. Barras to all of my friends and I will continue to come back. You won’t be disappointed, trust me!

First of all, what super professional feel you get as soon as you walk into the office. Every thing is state of the art and latest and greatest from the X-​ray to the flat screen TV’s that helped me relax a little while they worked on me. The staff was extremely pleasant and I liked that that asked me «do you have any questions» before I left. I had questions as usual. I got the feeling Dr Barras takes his time with his patients and unlike my old dentist, takes the extra time to stay tuned to the latest advances in dentistry. That is important to me. He was recommended by a friend and I am glad I followed through with that recommendation. I will definitely be back.

Every experience I have had at Dr Barras office has been nothing but amazing! They make me feel extra special every visit even if it’s just for a cleaning. I have recommended them to all of my friends and will keep coming back

Two root canals and two crowns later my tooth still has problems and now it needs to be pulled. I finally got fed up with my tooth hurting and went to another dentist. Root canal didn’t work and the crown cracked so I have a massive infection in my tooth. The prices are exorbitant and the quality of care is lacking. I was also told that any metal or old fillings had to be redone because they could deteriorate in the future. There are too many other good dentists in the city. Save yourself the time, money, and aggravation and go somewhere else!

I was referred by a friend for Dr. Barras. I just needed my teeth cleaned and the first appointment was two hours without even that. They kept saying I had wonderful/​beautiful teeth however, there was 20 things wrong with them. My bite was wrong, my teeth had relapsed from my invisalign 3 years ago which I wear my retainer every night, my fillings would need to be replaced because they weren’t the right material, my gums were infected because they bled when a sharp object was pushed as far as it could go, it was just a little much for a first appointment. Wish they would have just cleaned my teeth and gained my trust before they tried throwing the book at my teeth.

Not good at their job — won’t be back.
The office is great and staff are wonderful. Latest technology and all of that.
However, a simple crown replacement led to multiple adjustments (repeated visits) to correct the bite /​fit. I’ve had several crowns before from another dentist without the pain, discomfort and continual issues I’ve experienced with this.
Big sales job on a full set of dental work (correcting my bite, needing invisalign, etc.).
I can’t chew on that side of my mouth at all without getting jaw pain and a toothache (a full month after the first visit and several other visits to adjust the bite), I’m heading to my old dentist to have it checked out and fixed. It may be inconvenient, cost me more money, but at least I know I can trust the work.

Dr John Barras and his team are very good.
I’m not the best patient, and these guys bear with me. From getting my Xrays taken to the brilliant SABRINA making sure all is well (and putting up with my wimpness :-)). I feel very comfortable with them. They never push treatment that is not necessary, and always are knowledgeable of the latest best practice. If you are a wimp like me, or just want great service, this is the practice for you, highly recommend.

I will never go back.

I went in for a filling and everyone was really nice and the place looked great. There was a wonderful view of tanglewood and nice music while they were fixing my teeth. Too bad I had to go back 5 times to that same view because they didn’t get it right the first time. The numbness lasted more than 2 days and my filling kept hurting so I went back to Dr Gusemano who said it was «too high». They made me bite in the paper again and started grinding away, said the pain should go away in a couple of days.

It didn’t, so I went back and this time Dr. Barras said the same thing and started grinding away again. I kept getting switched between the two dentists and no one could get it right. The pain never went away, and after 5 visits across 5 months, I ended up with a hole in my molar from so much «lowering» and learned how to chew on my left side only.
And to top it off, they never mentioned they were out of network (my fault) and two fillings cost me $ 600+ dollars on my first visit. At least I wasn’t charged every time I went back. I ended up going to another dentist in my neighborhood who got it right in one shot. Don’t let the nice place fool you, they can’t do the basics.

I came here to spend a Zoom whitening LivingSocial that was going to expire. During the process, my hygienist asked me what kind of music I wanted to listen to. Not wanting to create a fuss, I said «Oh, anything.» I was trapped in a chair while lasers blasted into my mouth for 45 minutes while listening to Adele.
