Dachshund Rescue of Houston is a very hard-working and dedicated group of doxie lovers successfully rescuing these fine pets. If you desire a wiener dog, or just a cool friendly happy smart dog this is the first source to go to. My introduction to DROH came when I decided to cure the emptiness in my life caused by the death of my last doggie 8 years ago. I researched breeds, narrowed down my choices and a co-worker who owned doxies pointed out DROH. I completed the extensive application, then got a screening phone call followed by a home visit to check on my suitability. I had to provide references. Then after I was vetted and OK’d, I was able to work with them to pick a pair of doggies. Luckily for me, the first pair, Moxie and Mason, a bonded brother/sister pair rescued from euthanasia at the pound was the first visit and a total connection. They will work with potential adopters to select a dog best suited for them. The advantage of adopting a dog that lived with a foster is you get to hear all their quirks and foibles. Their site has excellent description of potential adoptable dogs, but be prepared for some stories that you won’t like of abused and sick pups. All doggies who may be sick at the time of rescue are nursed back to health before adoption, sometimes at considerable expense and effort. This is obviously a group that deeply cares. Moxie and Mason highly recommend Dachshund Rescue of Houston
