Chang’s Chinese Restaurant

Mediocre at best. The garlic pork was all veggies and very little pork. The service was too fast. I had taken 3 bites of soup when my meal arrived and it made me feel rushed.

Food is okay, but watch out for delivery orders. They will overcharge for things you did not order. They are cutting corners to save money on the food preparation and still charge the same price. I ordered a super size hot and sour soup. It had one small piece of tofu in it!

The manager is rude and not customer friendly. Even if you have a problem with the food he will not address it. Better restaurants and friendlier service in Houston… stay away from this dump.

The portion of fried rice was bid! With big pieces of shrimp. The lemon chicken sauce is sooo good!!! we are going back again.

Really bad chinese. My fried rice just sticky brown rice and the sweat and sour pork just lots of bread. Maybe because was the lunch special. Not coming back.

I concur with some of the other reviewers here about their rudeness. Yep, they are. The food is good though.

I used to really like this place but lately the food quality has declined significantly. I had the sweet and sour chicken lunch special. The win ton soup was overly salty and the stuffed won ton inside had a gamey taste. The sweet and sour chicken was tough and soggy and had a bad taste to it as well. The egg roll was also excessively greasy. Couldn’t even finish my meal. Seems like they’re cutting corners. I won’t be back.

Consistently good food! Which is hard to say in the galleria area.
The delivery, however, is the slowest service on earth. Well over an hour, and in less than half a mile away! No matter the time of day; be prepared to wait an hour for your food!

Good place, waiters literally stand nearby if you need them. Very attentive. I had the sesame chicken, egg drop soup and ice tea. Service great, food great, and even though the power went out while I was there — it was still a great experience. I will be going back.

Consistently good Chinese food. We’ve been ordering from Chang’s for years, delivery is always quick and the food is great. My mother-​in-​law likes to eat-​in; that’s good too, although the atmosphere is not my favorite. Hot and sour soup is my favorite, Mu Shu pork is delicious, Pork with Garlic Sauce… All great. Not earth-​shattering, but our favorite for Chinese take-​out or delivery.

We tried this restaurant twice. Both times were ok but could be better. We had the chicken and broccoli with wonton soup and the Vietnamese fried egg rolls. The egg rolls were good but the chicken and broccoli is ok. We like Asian Café in the Heights a lot better for Chinese American food.

This is our go to To-​Go place. It ALWAYS comes hot and on time. Sometimes even comes early (which is a real treat when you’re starving…)
We always get the chicken fried rice. It is flavorful and they add cabbage or lettuce and bean sprouts which gives it an extra crunch and flavor.
We also love their wonton soup and their skewers. Beef is the best. Their wonton soup has a clear flavorful broth with smooth and tasty wontons in it. It’s a perfect soup. Their wings are not Asian wings but they are flour-​batter-​fried and cooked really well and come with a spicy buffalo sauce. Wouldn’t expect it from this place but it’s really good fried chicken.
We have never been inside this place but highly recommend it for anyone who wants a delicious Asian takeout place!

Don’t waste your time with a take out order at this restaurant. We called in our order at 6:10 pm Sunday and showed up at 6:30 pm to pick it up. It was not ready and we didn’t get our food until 6:50pm. The manager said «a cook didn’t show up»!
Went back. A second time! Surprised the service is actually worse if you dine in. One waiter in a Saturday night. Then the manager couldn’t find our check. I finally left $ 40 on the counter and walked out. Needless to say, I’m not going back… ever!

Very rude manager. I nearly broke a tooth on a STAPLE INSIDE my piece of chicken. The manager got angry with me, said he was «too busy» to apologize, and hung up on me.
When I called to complain about the staple, the following happened:
ME: I just picked up a sesame chicken, and there was a staple in my chicken.
HIM: What was your order?
ME: Sesame chicken.
HIM: What time?
ME: About an hour ago.
HIM: Oh. Hmm. What was your order? What time?
ME: Sesame chicken. An hour ago. Why does it matter?
HIM: Ma’am! I’m trying to find your order! I have to find it. We are very busy!
ME: I’m just confused why you keep asking about my order. I thought the first thing you were going to do was apologize for the staple in my chicken.
HIM: We’re so busy. I need to find your order.
ME: You’re too busy to apologize?!
HIM: What do you want ma’am?! Do you want to come pick up a new order of sesame chicken?!
ME: No, I was hoping you would apologize.
HIM: Okay fine! If you want me to say sorry, fine! I’m sorry! I’m sorry 1000 times! I’m trying to solve your problem!
ME: It didn’t seem like it.
HIM: Bring me your sesame chicken and I’ll give you a new one.
ME: I don’t want a new one! I don’t want to eat anything from your restaurant. (This is not just be being rude, I am actually thoroughly disgusted at the thought of eating anything from there right now.)
HIM: Bring me the staple and I will put a note that says free sesame chicken.
ME: I want my money refunded from today.
HIM: I believe you that you found a staple! But I need to show the chef the staple! You bring the chicken and I give you free sesame chicken!
ME: I just want a refund.
HIM: Fine! You don’t want the sesame chicken, then fine!

So here’s the thing — I’ve been to this place maybe 7 or 8 times, always during lunch as it’s within walking distance to my office. It’s a reasonable lunch spot, specials available just like in every other Chinese restaurant. Very tasty crab puffs. They don’t seem to hire enough waiters for the lunch rush, so they always seem a little haggard and crabby. I’m not bothered by it, they’re just trying to get to everyone.
TONIGHT: I got a to-​go order and came back to the office. I seem to chew my food more thoroughly than other people. So, I’m sitting there, chewing my sesame chicken (the other reviewer who said it was right — the sesame chicken IS really tough), when I felt a sharp pain on one of my molars. I freaked out, and thought, oh God, is my crown breaking off? Felt around with my tongue, nope, felt fine. Chewed again, and owwww.
So I had the delightful task of spitting my half-​chewed food out onto my hand to inspect it. And I found a STAPLE. It was not in the rice, I would have seen it – it was hidden in the chicken. Thankfully I didn’t SWALLOW it … an open staple going down my throat, sitting in my stomach, travelling through my whole intestine, ripping up who knows what.
Would it have killed the guy to be at least a little horrified? My deduction is that he was not in the least bit horrified, because a) he just doesn’t care and b) it probably happens all the time (or something similar). None of which convinces me to ever eat there again. EVER.
GROSS.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. Called to confirm an online order and they were SO RUDE. I cancelled my order.

Great lunch and dinner combo specials. Best won ton soup if you like lemon grass and ginger. Love the Mongolian dish with shrimp beef and chicken

Loved the food! We got it delivered and it was still so hot which I really appreciated!
I ordered the vegetable noodles which were to die for! and chicken in garlic sauce which was sweet and spicy at the same time!
The weird part (at least to me) was that delivery guy asked for a tip! I don’t really know if that’s normal here!

Horrible try ordering from Café Panda Garden instead, they seem to have a better understanding of customer service and cooking skills!
I am also one of those people who suffered as a result of not reading the reviews first. Admittedly, I just started using Unilocal,but I thought I was marked or something and after reading the reviews it isn’t a coincidence that my order was consistently incorrect! O and I think it’s family owned but when you call to notify management of an error some rude lady is speaking in her native tongue loudly as if I can’t tell her tone is basically saying to the customer, «quit your whining!»
If you don’t want problems, DONT EAT HERE!!! One of the worst establishments period.

Last minute decision for dinner this past Tuesday night.
Not disappointed…
Around 7:30 two of us walk in and no one else is there.
Linen on tables with water glasses.
Thought was going to be pricey.
Food was excellent.
Service was quick.
Prices very reasonable compared to other places in the area.
Glad I live close by.
Will not have to go anyplace else.

Super disappointed with my meal. I just got back from it actually.
Wide selection on their menu but waiters had a lack of knowledge of the lunch specials. I ordered a Shrimp Crunchy Noodles. I’m thinking «okay, this sounds like crispy shrimp chow mein right?» I asked the waiter if the noodles are pan-​fried and he responds «.yeah it comes on the side» WHAT KIND OF NOODLES COMES ON THE SIDE? I thought noodles are the main entrée. Anyways, I order that with an egg drop soup, eggroll, brown rice, and crab puffS. Remember crab puffs were plural.
Got my meal and I sat gawking at it. It was a plate with four pieces of shrimp drowned in soggy onions and cabbage. i think they were trying to make a bed of lettuce but it came out as a pool of lettuce. I also had a towering lump of brown rice which I barely ate because it was overcooked. Lastly, my crunchy noodles. Not only were they NOT pan-​fried, they were the crunchy noodles you garnish on Asian-​inspired salads. WUT
By the way, the waiter forgot my crab puffs so he apologized and went back to get me some. He came out 5 minutes later with a plate of ONE crab puff. Just one. Not to mention it was straight-​up cream cheese inside. Also, their sweet and sour is not fresh. It’s tangy, sour, and tastes like freaking ginger.
On to the customer service — we had one extremely young waiter who picked up our dirty dishes, one who took our order, and another woman would refilled our water cups frequently. The waiter who picked up our dirty dishes looked way too young to be working. This kid probably didn’t hit puberty yet! It was odd for me to enter a Chinese restaurant with full-​blown interior décor but employ Hispanic people as waiters. That ruins the whole atmosphere. I love hole in the wall, authentic, home-​cooked meals and this place was not it for me.
They also don’t serve fountain drinks. You’ll get a cup with ice and a can of soda.
