Catnip Inn

This was our first cat grooming experience for our kitty and the nice folks at the Catnip Inn made it a wonderful one! I called them early in the morning and they were able to fit me in right away the same day. I was very apprehensive about leaving my cat for the first time alone but they reassured me that they would be very caring and gentle for her bath and nail trim. Less than an hour later they called me to come pick her up and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Her coat and nails looked perfect and my cat seemed very happy and calm. The groomers told me she was perfectly behaved and even gave us some helpful tips and a catnip treat for her. Needless to say we will be back in the near future!

I went to board my cat here and overheard the staff talking about sick baby kittens in the back that were just pulled from the BARC City of Houston Shelter. There were also about 12 kittens up front in wire kennels some with booger eyes and sneezing. I inquired and was told they are up for adoption and had recently been rescued from the shelter. They wanted to take my cat to the back for boarding and didn’t even ask for vaccine history. I said no way is my cat staying in this pathogen — infested pit. This place is not a boarding facility. It is an unlicensed animal shelter operating under the guise of a boarding facility. No one should board their pets here, it’s unsafe! Although the staff was very nice.

I have a Himalayan who is pretty social towards humans and generally in a pretty cheery mood, but when it comes to grooming and interacting with other cats, forget about it.
So I made all this clear over the initial phone call, which was was promptly answered, and we went over the details once again when I dropped the little guy off.
To be fair, I was told that if my cat was a handful, they’d request that I pick him up to get sedated. Anyways, during our first appointment, the staff members did a little assessment and felt my cat would be ok. Be warned, I was a little ill at ease as Catnip Inn is teeming with cats and I was just waiting for my cat to freak out. The first appointment went well. The lion cut was very neat and my cat didn’t seem that out of sorts.
I brought him back two more times over the year and each time it seemed he got more feisty based on the staff’s feedback. Again, both times, I had no qualms with the quality of the lion cut.
Finally, the last time I brought my cat in was just a disaster. When I picked him up, he was panting, his paws were bleeding and he was hissing right and left. I couldn’t understand why the staff wouldn’t just call me and request that I pick him up instead of subjecting him to that trying grooming session. I had been a repeat client and really wouldn’t make a big deal about it as day 1 they had mentioned their reluctance to groom cats that were not at ease.
Again, very neat lion cuts. Prompt appointment scheduling. Sadly, due the last appointment, we just won’t be coming back. If your cat doesn’t do well socializing with other cats, probably better to consider another option.

Always bring my cat here when I am out of town, she gets all the attention she wants and gets to play with the other cats! Excellent service, the people who work there truly love cats :3

4. Our cats loved them! And we have two cats with two polar opposite personalities

They did a great job fitting in my same-​day appointment on a Saturday very quickly! They were finished in only a couple hours after drop-​off. The cut (lion cut with a pom as usual) was done very well. The price was competitive for other groomers in the area for the same cut.
The ladies there were very friendly and sweet, and it was clear they were very concerned about the well being of the pudgy little owner of my heart. As I was picking her up, they noticed one very small issue (before I’d even seen it) and whisked her back in to finish it quickly. Wonderful! My little puddytat was also very relaxed and stress-​free post-​shave, which doesn’t always happen and is a credit to the groomer.
They have a number of adorable cats lounging around soaking up love and sunshine. I guess they help out with rescuing cats in the area which is awesome! Love this place!

So, I took my kitty to Catnip Inn this past Saturday 5÷16÷15, for a bath, flea dip, basically to get her out of the house while I took care of business. Vickie and her staff are amazing! Not only are they a cat only grooming and boarding business, they have a fullly functional facility, and they also adopt out rescues. It was clean and all of the «house» kitties were calm and friendly. Most came up and greeted/​sniffed me.
I immediately felt at ease with the staff and with leaving my baby kitty in their care… She too was very comfortable, even with all of the other cats in the room. They did an amazing job bathing my girl, and she is completely flea free, and her coat was soft, fluffy, and she’s had minimal shedding since bringing her back home. The prices were affordable for the services offered. I will be taking my kitty back in a couple of weeks to get her shaved down so that she’ll be comfy and cool with the summer months fastly approaching. Catnip Inn gets my vote!

Reasons the Catnip Inn is awesome:
1. Staffed by crazy cat people who love on your cat and get to know the cat’s personality. Truly the reason to board your cat here.
2. They have a staff photographer! I have twice gotten beautiful photos of my cat while she stayed there. Such a sweet touch.
3. Well priced ($ 20/​night seems to be the going rate in the city) — and I’ve gotten a discount for an extended stay, too.
4. My cat was on some medication when she was there in October and the staff called my vet to clarify something about the prescription — which I really appreciated.
I highly recommend them!

The eclectic cat inspired salt and pepper shaker collection is the first thing I noticed when I walked in. I was immediately greeted and treated with care in every way for my cat grooming. She has a medical concern, and they were very accommodating and professional when working with her.
I highly recommend this place to take care of your cat’s needs. I felt welcomed as soon as I entered, but the free wifi and coffee was definitely an added perk!
My cats haircut came out fabulous, and with it only setting me back $ 86 for a cut, wash, and pedicure, I think it’s cheaper than when I get it done myself at the salon.
You won’t regret working with this place, they’re professionalism is unrivaled for kitty upkeep!

I had to board my two furry babies for 2 months! I chose Catnip Inn and I couldn’t have been happier. I visited them once a week and never called ahead. Their area was spotless and they always had fresh food and water. They were happy and content every time I went to see them. The staff was ALWAYS so kind and loving. I would HIGHLY recommend this wonderful place to anyone! Thank you Catnip Inn!

Catnip Inn is truly the best cat boarding establishment in the city. If you’re a crazy cat mom like me, you’ll love this place.
I boarded my 10 month old British Shorthair kitten (Olive) for 11 days during my wedding and honeymoon. I had previously boarded my kitty at another well-​reviewed place for only a few days and found that she hated it and never ate while there. I was so upset that I wanted to find the best place for her as we were going to be away for so long. I eventually found Catnip Inn and based on everything I read online, it seemed like the right place for our cat.
When we returned after our trip (during which I missed her the entire time!) she honestly didn’t even want to leave. She was so much happier and well-​fed than when we retrieved her from the previous boarding establishment.
The staff is incredibly friendly and is just as cat-​crazy as I am. I really couldn’t recommend this place enough, especially to cat parents nervous about boarding their kitties.
PS. We received several emails from Catnip Inn while we were on vacation, all including photos of our happy little kitty. This was such an amazing touch that it must be noted.

I had to board my kitty while I was away on business for the week. She was scared to death, and so was I… I had never boarded her, and she hadn’t been around so many other kitties since I had adopted her from the pound. There was also a small personal problem with my ex, and I felt like there could be a real possibility that he might try to show up and take her while I was out of town. Not only was she very well taken care of, but once they knew of my worry, they did everything possible to ease my mind. They sent me pictures of her during the week, didn’t mind when I called to ask how she was, and gave her lots of personal attention while she stayed there. On top of that, they assured me that no one would be allowed to check her out that wasn’t me, and one of the employees even offered to house her at her home if it looked like my ex would be a real problem. (Thankfully, he was not.) A nervous week for both kitty and mama ended up being more than okay, thanks to these wonderful people!

These people are simply the best! They not only provide service for my feline, they give suggestions, recommendations, & general advice for me, too! I love coming here. :)

If you have a cat and he or she needs to be groomed or boarded, this is the best place to go. It’s a clean, extremely cat-​friendly atmosphere for these beautiful creatures to just be themselves. The folks over at Catnip are dedicated to their work and never, ever disappoint.
I heard about this place through my friend Herman, who I knew from my visit to Fat Cat Flats a few years ago. Since Herman moved here, my Leonidas and I did, too. As much as Leonidas hates baths and being coddled, he leaves here happy and relaxed. What more could I possibly ask for?
Though I’ve never boarded him here, I was given a tour of the property and let me tell you, it is a cat’s dream. From small cat flats to play pens, this place has got everything. If I did ever need a place for Leonidas to stay, this would be it.
As far as the grooming goes, they do a terrific job each time. Most of our beloved kittens hate baths; these guys have a fish tank in their grooming room to help calm them down while their being bathed and groomed. I find it to be such a cool idea. Not only that, but they’re given their own personal cat nip pouches (my guy isn’t a catnip fan, but it’s nice to have around) and they come out with bows and such. The pricing is reasonable for all the work that goes in, so I’ve got no issues there, either.
It’s a good idea to call ahead and let them know you’d like to bring your baby in; they’ll usually ask that you drop them off prior to noon, and they give you a call as soon as your beloved is through with their pampering for the day. Anywhere from full hair cuts to lion cuts to nail trims to flea baths; you name it, they do it.
And if you’re lucky (we all are, usually), Herman will use his magnificent photography skills and take some cool snaps of your kitten and e-​mail them to you. Oh, and he usually posts the photos on Facebook and on their website, as well.
Herman, Walt and Amy — great folks who do a great job! If you need to take your cat in, this is definitely the place to do it. Let ‘em know who sent ya!
P. S. This place is tucked at the corner of Tangley; looks like a small house (it actually is), so look out for the sign!

Cat Nip Inn is adorable !
First off, I called plenty of places in my area (Heights/​Rice Village) to get information on shorthair baths, lion cuts etc. I was surprised to find that everyone I had contacted was quiet rude and short with their information. Hal is my first kitten, so I wanted to know what services he needed and how they were done. One place could not even give me a definite price on a shorthair kitten bath.
Well that’s when I found CatNipInn on my Google search. They’re conveniently located a couple blocks from my work and had a price list located on their website. I called and spoke with Walt (very courteous gentleman) who took his time explaining what services they offered. I was able to make an appointment for the following Saturday and felt comfortable that I was leaving my little guy with knowledgable people who would take care of him. I was able to drop him off, head to the office to get some work done, and was given a call when he was ready to go home. My little guy was carried out wearing a festive little bow and smelling great! The staff here really knows their stuff (got tips on how to make his car experience positive) and was very friendly (helped me with his carrier to the car).
As far the adorable part goes, this place is also an actual Inn for these furry kitties, so you walk in and they’re lounging around. It’s really quiet cute to see. Very glad I found CatnipInn for our future grooming needs. We will definitely be back.

For some, like my neighbor who recommended the Catnip Inn, it is a good place for their feline family members, but not mine.
My two cats are not social and I asked (the kind neighbor who took in my cats since I had to work) to tell them so so that they would not be placed in the play room. Despite the warning my cats were placed in the play room and by all accounts it did not go well. Additionally, I requested that my cats be boarded for the day together and they were not. When my boyfriend went to pick them up one of my cats was quite agitated from the playroom, not being with his sister cat, and whatever else had happened that day. The man working there forced our [soft] cat carrier into the pin and cornered my cat, then proceeded to swat/​hit my cat until he ran in frightened. My boyfriend told the employee not to hit our cat/​treat him that way and he was unresponsive. Seems hitting an animal was his ‘backup’ plan for when they have an agitated animal.
My other cat got sick and I had to take her to the vet today. The vet said she had a virus come on due to stress and agitation. I spent $ 101 (visit, antibiotics, and fluids) getting her the care she needed to recoup from the 6 hours of boarding at CatNip Inn.
I felt that my cats were not treated like the family members they are to us, and in the future I’ll take them to my vet/​boarder West Alabama Animal Clinic where they’ve always had great care.
I don’t want to undermine the positive comments that have come before, but I highly suggest that if your cat is selective/​skiddish/​not social, not to board them here. I also sincerely hope that in the future the workers here will find a non-​violent way to handle frightened cats. Hitting an animal should never be an option.

I needed to board my cat for 6 weeks and was extremely worried about leaving him for so long, but he was wonderfully cared for at Catnip Inn. Herman did a great job sending me weekly photographs of Lucky to help reassure me that all was well. All of the staff here are great and this will now be Lucky’s home away from home when I have to be gone for more than just a couple of days!

This place is adorable and great for our cats. The staff are so nice and extremely helpful. We love boarding them here. I highly recommend them for cat boarding or grooming.

This place is camp for cats. From the brightly colored «exercise» playroom to the large «bunk» units, the cats are treated like camper guests. Vicki, Amy and Debi all get to know the cats and truly care about their well being. The cats are let out to play if they are social, and if quiet are given their space and private playtime.
My cat Buddy has been staying there for a couple of months while I get settled in Houston. I’ve been going over everyday to visit, and always made to feel welcome by the staff.
Also, I just had Buddy groomed and he looks terrific. Crazy to say, but he looks younger and more playful without all that long hair.
I recommend the CATNIP INN without any reservations.
