We specialize in anything bike related, from mountain and road bikes to touring bikes, commuters, fixed gears, dirt jumpers, BMX, unicycles and everything in between. We like to think of ourselves as an urban bike shop that doesn’t discriminate– if it has pedals, we like it!

Our Service shop specializes in quick affordable repairs and our mechanics have tons of experience in everything from classic restorations to wheel building and hydraulic brake work.

History

Established in 2005.

David and Fred Zapalac opened the doors Blue Line Bike Lab on December 1st, 2005. The two brothers strongly believe in the positive impact that bicycles have on our communities and our lives, and constantly strive to make cycling more accessible to everyone whether they haven’t been on a bike in 30 years or are gearing up for their next big race. Blue Line Bikes is a member of The National Bicycle Dealers Association, The League of American Cyclists and Fred has been representing Houston area cyclists as a board member of BikeHouston since 2010. Blue Line has won the Houston Press Best Bike Shop award in 2007,2008 and 2010 and was recently awarded a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Business award by the LAB. As proud as we are of these accomplishments, we’re even more proud every time we see a new rider that we helped to discover their new passion for riding!

Simply put, the best bike shop there is! The owners, David & Fred, the owners, have never steered me wrong and have talked me out of a number of hair-​brained ideas I’ve had about my bikes down through the years. The Heights store has gone through a major sprucing up some time ago, but the employees still have that willingness to help and offer advice when it’s needed.
When you go through the doors of the Blue Line Bile Lab, it’s all about the bike AND the rider!

You’ve gotta give props when props are due and Blue Line definitely earned this rave review…
We just kinda strolled in to check out your stock, but then *boom* you guys were so awesome and kind to my sweet, but a tad nervous about giving biking a try after a long while, 70yr old Mom. You guys had the perfect bike for her (a sweet 7-​speed Townie Cruiser with hand brakes… in her fav color Johnny Cash black) AND got it all fitted precisely for her AND made adjustments when she sheepishly didn’t even have the bike vocabulary to know how to ask AND taught her how to use the gears AND pimped it out with a bell and basket we tacked on AND helped her get her helmet all adjusted and taught her how the metal clasp worked AND helped us load it into her car.
A + for service and awesomeness and big props to our bike tech, Joshua!
We came in looking for a bike… and got THE perfect bike, plus basket, plus bell, plus an adorbs Nutcase helmet… plus you snagged both our hearts. Kudos Blue Line!

TERRIBLE customer service. I went in thinking I needed my tube changed but, turns out I had a defective air pump. The service technician didn’t even bother to check if i had a leak. He just changed the tube. He also said I needed new brakes. So a week later I returned when the shop opened. The same service technition said he couldn’t do the repair. Told me I had to make an appointment or leave the bike at the shop. That wasn’t an option for me since I road my bike to the shop. Granted they didn’t look busy since they didn’t have any customers. Don’t think I’ll be going to this shop again.

The staff there is great. We ordered two Pure Fix bikes from them, the received the delivery, put it together and made the adjustments we needed. Even a month afterwards, we had a small issue and they gladly fixed it quickly. I would highly recommend this shop for anyone looking for a bike or bike accessories.

A great store with a great number of bikes. Here you will find bikes for any occasion. I am coming to this store for some years and recommend it to all my friends.
There is different prices: cheaper bikes have worse quality. I always ask many questions and the workers answer all of them. The service customer is on the highest level.
Once I had a problem with one of my bikes, that I have bought there, I came to this store and told them my problem, they explained me clearly what to do to decide it.

A great bike spot in the heights. When I moved into the area, I started riding along the trails near by. This is a great starting point or resting spot. To pick up some accessories you might need or stop in for a quick repair. The staff is very friendly and the prices are fair.

This is place is really the perfect bike shop. They have a great selection of bikes and accessories ranging from serious racing, etc, to more recreational and a lot of cool smaller brands you don’t see everywhere. All the workers are really nice, helpful and knowledgeable and make you feel totally comfortable no matter your level of bike expertise. Prices are reasonable but more importantly they take the time to make sure you pick the right equipment for your needs and get the right fit. Also, the shop is right on the Heights Hike & Bike path so its easy to ride right to the shop for gear, service, etc. We started with one bike, and now our whole family has bikes from here. Tune ups and any other service are also extremely high quality and reasonably priced. Blue Line makes buying and owning a bike a pleasure.

These guys are just a bunch of really solid dudes.
I had a crack in my 6 year old Jamis frame that I was hoping was covered by warranty. They didn’t even question for one second if it was, and set about getting me a brand new frame. It took a bit longer than I was hoping, but I’m guessing this was Jamis dragging their feet on replacing a frame. Because of this (or because they’re just good people) when assembling my bike back together Blue Line threw on a couple of freebies while replacing some of my old components. Thus all together I got almost a completely brand new bike, for about 1⁄3 of a cost of a new one.

My husband needed a new bike for work so we decided to stop by and see what kind of bikes they had, well it was obvious the minute we walked in we were no bike experts and were greeted by Jimmy who was so helpful and helped us pick out a bike for my husband a Jamis DXT Hybrid. I’m happy to say we will be back soon so I can pick out a bike for myself.

My awesome boyfriend was listening to my prayers when I had mentioned to him that I need my own bike. (i’ve been using my dad’s bike for 2 years now!) So he brought me here to buy me an early birthday present. The staff was friendly, informative and not pushy. I feel like I asked a million questions just because it can be pretty over whelming with the types of bikes. My eye was drawn to the Jamis Commuter bike which I was able to «test drive» and the price was great! Overall, it was a great experience and I couldn’t be more happier with my bike :)

I have a vintage city bike with the tires that are about 1 year old. I have never had any problems with these tires, e.g. a flat.
I visited the shop because one of my brakes is not working due to detached brake cable. The guy working in the shop examined my bike and said it needed new tires. I answered that I appreciated his opinion, however, I just wanted the brake to be repaired. He said it was not safe to ride a bike with (1 year old) tires like mine and that they refused to repair the brake because I did not opt for new tires. Not safe?! What is going to happen? A flat?
I was so shocked by his rude attitude that I left the shop without saying a word. I can’t help but wonder if they are so concerned about the safety, how do they feel about me riding my bike with just one brake?

My go to bike shop for repairs, they’re always friendly and don’t make you feel stupid for bringing the bike in for a simple repair. I recommend this place to all my bike friends, plus it’s easy to ride to right off the White Oak trail!

Excellent service all around. These guys are extremely helpful with bicycle newbies, despite the millions of questions. My girlfriend had been looking for a good quality bike and I had heard great things about Blue Line. Within a few minutes, they showed us a variety of styles and let her test ride. They were not pushy at all, a huge bonus!

I went here several times before I made any actual purchases. The first time I came here, I thought I needed a new tire because I don’t know anything about bikes (or wheels in general.) Turns out all I needed was to remove the nail-​like thing in bike and pump the tires which they did for me, and replaced the missing cap thing all for free. They even got the bike in and out of the car for me. (I really am not handy.) The next time I stopped by because I don’t know how to put air in my tires and wanted their help with this. Not only did they do this without rolling their eyes like I would, but they also completely readjusted by seat and handlebars so that I was riding it correctly. All this to say, when I did finally start buying things here, I was happy to do it because customer service here is fantastic.

Very nice shop! They have a great selection of bikes and gear. I especially loved their Nutcase brand helmet collection. I tried on several :-)
I was helped promptly by a charming young lad (the owner’s son I think) who found the leak in my flat front tire and proposed a new tube! $ 15 later ($ 6.99 for the tube and $ 7.00 for the labor plus tax) my bike’s front wheel is fixed and ready for my next ride.
Great service, convenient, easy parking, great selection and affordable prices. A good deal in the Heights!

I’d highly recommend coming to Blue Line if you are looking for quick reasonable bike repairs. My friend and I came in on a Sunday evening about 20 minutes before closing since another bike store in Montrose didn’t want to perform any repairs so late in the day. We just needed a simple tube change-​out and they performed the work in 10 minutes, even though there was another customer getting repairs in front of us.
They did the work (new tube and labor) for under $ 15, which is half the price of what two other big name bike stores had quoted me.
They have had this location for about 10 years (according to one employee) and also have a nice selection of bikes and accessories for any occasion. Prices of bikes I saw ranged from about 500 to 2,800.

Being the third time I have been to this bike shop, I was ready to upgrade and buy a second bike. As soon I walked in, I was greeted by the General Manager, Chuck Passé. With uncertainty, I told him my needs and the first bike he chose was perfect! After a test drive, I purchased it with ease and confidence. Chuck is extremely knowledgable and as unexperienced female biker, he put me at ease and spoke my language. He even found a bike that was better than what I was looking for and below my price range. I highly recommend them and wouldn’t go to any other competitors. Thanks, Chuck!

I’ve not ridden a bike since I was much younger and recently decided to start bike-​bus-​bike commuting to my job.
I came to Blue Line on the recommendation of a friend and wasn’t disappointed. They were really helpful and patient with my dumb novice questions. I worked with Jimmy, Chuck, and JP (I think) over a week to get my bike ordered, pick out some accessories, and then pick it up (Chuck even helped me get it into my crappy little car.) All three were very knowledgeable, down to earth, and friendly.
I came back another Sunday with some questions about the pump I’d bought. Jimmy determined it was faulty and replaced it no problem.

When I have bike problems I go to Blue Line, they have a crew of very knowledgeable dudes who will not sway you the wrong way and will straight up tell you their opinion and why. That is the kind of honesty and the reality I like to have from my bike shop.
They also have a good selection of parts and tools for every bikers need.

Awesome bike shop with super friendly customer service. I came here in search for some accessories such as gloves, C02 cartridges, padded pants, etc. Josh promptly came over and walked me through their selection. He gave me a lot of useful information about their products and answered my list of questions. Even though he knew I wasn’t going to buy anything that day, he continued to help me out without giving me the impression that I was wasting his time. I did not feel pressured to buy anything. After today’s experience, I felt like they deserved my recognition.
Overall, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly!

This shop is the best. I was having some problems with my rear brake so I brought it in and explained what was wrong. They were very patient and diagnosed the issue. Not only did they fix it, they went out of their way to over night the brakes and included a new water bottle holder for me. Will definitely come back to this place for tune ups and new supplies.

I got my bike serviced here a few weeks ago. Parking is limited along the side of the building. The building is a decent size for an independent bike shop. They have various bikes (primarily Jamis, Kona, Electra, Scott…) and the back half of the store is for the workshop where they have quite a lot of work orders.
I brought my bike in because my back wheel was wobbly. I was quickly shown to the back, where one guy quickly fixed up my wheel and aired up my tires. I asked how much and he wiggled his fingers in the air like saying «magic» and basically said there was no charge. This made me so happy, because last time I brought my bike to Aggieland Cycling in College Station to get my brake wires tightened, they charged me 30 BUCKS! What robbery! It made me scared to go to bike shops again. But I’m really glad I came to this one because they were quick to address my needs and were very nice about it.
My BF also brought his bike in after getting a flat and they fixed up fairly quickly too, Only charged $ 7 for the new tube and the fix.
Overall, the place provides good service and gives you that wonderful independent bike shop feel without being pretentious or expensive. I will return here again and again for future bike needs

Well, I must admit, these guys are super nice. I have been to other bike shops and I didn’t really have the best experience. But the guys here are so helpful and so real. I will definitely want to be a part of this shop on a regular basis.
