Amazing folks … prices *might* be 20% higher than Home Depot, BUT:
I went in with a pic of the commode mechanism which was making a hissing sound, not leaking as far as I could tell. Instead of replacing the entire contraption for $ 25 (ala Home Depot with help/​personnel being far/​few between), Gene advised to replace a rubber washer for $ 3.95! No tools required, 3 minutes later problem resolved! :-) Love Gus, Gene, Helena, Mike (no particular order) … treasures of the Houston home repair/​maintenance scene
If you’re able to use a coupon, great, you’ve easily matched Home Depot pricing. However, per above example and oftentimes without a coupon, their prices are in line with other firms.

Love shopping at Bering great variety. Customer service is awesome. Exciting to see what new things are carrying. Great stationery center as well!

I live near Berings and forget it’s there. Every few years, I remember it’s there and go in to buy something. I enter and wonder why I never shop there. It’s such a nice store. Then, I get ignored and brushed off by the employees and I remember. I’ll try again in 2017 or 18.

they need to find some pleasant employees instead of the grim reapers that are working there. usually an indication of poor management…

I have been shopping at Bering’s my whole life and I have watched and enjoyed their amazing growth and metamorphosis into a Houston version of Gump’s…You can buy anything you want in the way of hardware or household anything. The standard quality of their inventory is always going to err on the side of better or best; their prices are higher than Home Depot or Lowes but their service is better and they usually have discount coupons available. If you did not receive a coupon by mail, just ask an employee if there is one and if there is, they have always given it to me, right then and there; they actually help you save, what a concept! For your basic no frills hardware needs, perhaps one of the big box builder supply stores would be more economical but for help and the hard to find or outstanding gifts and quality BERING’S in it!!!

I’m such a sucker for Bering’s. They have a lot to offer for those with deep pockets looking for anything under the sun for your home.
This is a place where you can purchase fine china, silver, a garden hose, Big Green Egg grill, monogrammed leather luggage and some light bulbs all at the same place.
Bering’s has been around for quite some time and has established themselves as Houston’s place for finer home items and wedding registries. They’re definitely worth a Sunday browse and I’m sure you’ll run across something you can’t leave without.

Although I really like browsing through the store here, it is much much much too expensive. You can buy the same products and gifts online for much much cheaper. The store really caters to older people who don’t know that you can buy things online cheaper, or the Tanglewood crowd that pops in and has been coming here forever. They have expanded to another building behind them and carry a ton of gifts, furniture, garden things, and stationary and childrens clothes. We ordered my bachelorette party invites from here, and they turned out beautifully. I easily could have ordered them online for cheaper, but my friend insisted. I also pop in every now and then when I need a gift, or cute stationary, but the prices don’t justify the convenience. Cute store for browsing.

This is one of those places that has been awhile for awhile. It was my grandmother’s go to hardware store for a good chuck of her life in Houston. If you are looking for something a bit hard to find or if you need assistance with something, then this is a good place to stop by. They are a bit on the high price side though, so I don’t think I would make it my go to store for more basic hardware items. I was impressed with their cooking and kitchen selection. It had lots of items and they are all easy to find since unlike Bed and Bath this place isn’t that big. My dad is a fan of their coffee, and that is why I went on my most recent visit. They will blend any flavors you want in the back. Overall, it has a family business vibe, that isn’t often found in places like this anymore.

This is much, much more than a hardware store!

Great upscale hardware store with all kinds of unique finds. Some of my favorite things here are the truffle/​chocolate counter, the gourmet coffee, and something silly. if you want to get a spare key made they have tons of the cute, printed keys to choose from.
They also have a great selection of cleaning supplies for high end finishes and furniture, for example wood cleaner that is wax free, oil free, etc. and granite counter top cleaners.

Located just west of the Galleria, Berings is basically an upscale hardware store. It’s like Ace Hardware but with many more fine items to choose from.
Berings has a section entirely devoted to fine china and silverware, much like you would find at Macy’s, Dillard’s or Nordstrom.
During the holidays, this entire china/​silverware section is beautifully decorated with various Christmas wares. They really do have some very unique and elegant ornaments.
Berings also has a wonderful coffee/​truffles section. Some of the best chocolate truffles you will find in Houston and arguably some of the best coffee beans too.
For everyday hardware, you can find the same stuff at cheaper prices at other hardware stores.

If you live in Houston stop in to Bering’s to see what they have. Bering’s carries so many different things I don’t think I can even list half of the specialty products they carry so just have a look.
Are you looking for a charcoal grill? They have demonstrations daily (?) of different grills and techniques. On the day I stopped in they happened to have the «Big Green Egg» on demo and some tasty chicken from the grill. I was sold on the egg in minutes. I also had gone during their annual 20% sale that they send through the mail which made the sale that much more attractive. So many niche products, so little money.

If they don’t have it… You didn’t really need it!

I love to go to this store to browse, but it is more expensive than most of the competition. I will love to say that it is because of the service, but it is not true. Sometimes the employees are very nice, sometimes they are not. It all depends on how you are dressed that day. If you look upper class, you are very welcome, but if by any chance you go dressed like a worker, do not expect any help.
Also, this store and most of the employees are not very fond of kids, so if you must attend to the store, do so while your children are someplace else. It is ironic since they do have a kids department, but kids seem to bother most of the employees, which are older.
As for the Weslayan/​Bissonet store, there are some wonderful employees. However, I can not say the same about the uneducated rude manager. I have to say I feel very sorry for the employees that work under that manager.
Bottomline, this is a store where they like the average customer to be over 50 years old, and it does show on the way they treat their customer. I think I am going to wait a few years before I set foot there again.

I went here in search of mid-​range kitchenware. BF’s roommate is moving out and taking his super-​nice cookware with him (sadface) so it was time to get some of our own. In racking my brain trying to figure out where I could get kitchen implements one step above IKEA and Target, but one step below Williams-​Sonoma, I came to Bering’s as my conclusion. (Macy’s would have also been an acceptable answer, I later remembered, but H-​town pride and all that.)
For a weekday at noon, I was surprised to see this Galleria-​area Bering’s was busier than I’d envisioned, but probably not due to lunchtime traffic. I think I was probably the only person in the store under the age of 65 – including the staff. The selection here starts at midrange, so don’t come knockin’ if you’re looking to furnish a college apartment. I ended up settling on a Cuisinart stainless steel pan for $ 50, but could have upgraded to a similar $ 250 Viking model if I felt so inclined (and independently wealthy). They also feature an extensive selection of Wusthof knives.
If you’re used to being able to get in and out of big-​box stores fairly quickly (sans the tangle at the checkout line), don’t come here. I’m not sure Bering’s «personal service» is a good fit for me. When it comes to much of the larger kitchenware items (such as appliances, pots and pans, and certain dishes), you actually have to wait for someone to happen by the cookware section and subsequently ask them to bring you a box with your desired item inside. I’m a lightning-​fast shopper. I figure out what I want within five minutes, inspect the box to make sure it’s what I want, and then I’m back in my car in ten minutes flat. Not so much with Bering’s. I had the staff member bring me a pan, and then once I saw the box I realized it didn’t come with a lid – so I had to send her back to grab another model. It took me half an hour to buy a pan and a cutting board. Not my greatest showing.
I’m kinda bummed I can’t get more excited about this place – but que sera, sera. It’s possible I’ll be back in the future, because the prices on their cookware were actually fairly competitive and I’ve still got a few pieces to replace. I’ll know next time to put on my «patience» cap, however.

Oh how I love Bering’s…more for «window shopping» than for my home staples. It’s a little out of my budget… or what I find reasonable for every day items but I buy specialty items there all the time. They have a granite cleaner that I like — it’s made locally. I also have really cute personalized stationary that a friend gave me from Berings. What I really love is walking around and just looking — and the staff is really friendly. I also like the old rich people that are in there — I can’t believe they buy like all their household stuff there. It’s cute to me though — endearing… I guess I also like the «mom and pop» feel to it… all warm and fuzzy :-)

One of the VERY few hardware stores around where you can easily find someone to help you find just about anything. «Yeah, we got that» is heard quite often. The staff goes out of their way to make sure you find what you are looking for, and will offer suggestions when you are trying to solve a problem.

I used to really like the back building. The temporary or added on building, that is. You have to walk outside to get to it, which was always a bit awkward, but it made sense and used to be chockablock full of stationary. Well, the front half did, then the back half had roofing and roof ornaments. (Weather vanes and such.) That was twenty or so years ago, today it’s a bit old carpet and dusty. Oh, you can find stationary and such, but nothing of a selection as was to be found in the late 80s. Not much in the way of moderately-​priced gifts. I now feel like I am wading through Ms Havesham’s library closet when I’m here.
The main store is nice. (I think that falls a step behind wonderful, but that really was the best I could manage.) Nice.
If you need that odd, «I have no idea what I need for that» item, you should head here. They have it, whatever that thingamajig is. Oh, they stopped making «x» years ago? Stop here, if they don’t have it, they’ll either have a solution or the replacement item for which your object was phased out. You may want to also check Southland and Buffalo Hardware, but this Bering’s location is most likely going to be your best bet.
Beyond hardware and tools (not referring to the jerks that frequent bars on Washington Ave.), they also carry pet supplies, house and kitchen wares, bake ware, and yard supplies.
Need hostess gifts? They have quite an assortment. From cheese trays, to outdoor glasses and plates, to coffees and bulk candies, and on into the nicer gift room.
Need wedding, holiday, birthday, or graduation presents? Step into the «fancy room.» (I have been shopping at Berings since I was exceptionally short, so forgive my room nicknames.) A friend of mine was registered here a few years ago, and smart she was, they have really nice China, glass, and silverware. They tend to stock the tried and true brands such as Trapp and Crabtree and Evelyn, but the selection is nice. Yes, that word again.

This is the cutest hardware store! And I am definitely not there for the hardware. They sell so many different kinds of items from German nutcrackers and pet food to gourmet coffee and all kinds of kitchen gadgets.
This is one of the few places in the city that sells Candidae dog food. And that is my number one reason for going. I have also bought some of their gourmet coffee which, I hear, is very good. I bought it as a gift for christmas and they loved it.
The staff is also absolutely GREAT! Very kind people. And yesterday when I went to buy the very expensive dog food, the cashier applied a 20% coupon for me without any kind of solicitation from me. Absolutely wonderful customer service! I will go back again and again. Maybe next time, I’ll allow myself to indulge in some of their very tempting candy and chocolate selection.

I love this place! This is the ultimate hardware store that also offers gourmet coffee, a whole section of specialty stationery in another building, fine china & crystal… it has so much more to offer than just hammers and plumbing supplies!
This is the original Bering’s location and I have been coming here since I was a child. My father and I would make trips on a Saturday, just Dad and his little girl… it was such a treat for me because I always got a bag of the freshest yummy gummi bears (yes, they sell candy over in the coffee section) while I spent a day with Dad.
There is so much in this store! My father would *always* end up back at this store after looking all over town for whatever item he needed and sure enough, Bering’s always had that obscure tool or hardware piece he needed.
You can also tell that they take pride in their store (always have and still do). Employees work certain sections and know their section well. They offer help with a smile and are knowledgeable.
If you go, be sure not to miss the upscale high-​end gift store in the back of the store where you can buy the latest Baccarat piece or fine china. At Christmas wander back there for a gorgeous spectacle of adorned trees with the most beautiful glass ornaments.
Also near the gift store is the gourmet coffee — you can smell the aroma as you get close. Get some gummi bears when you are there and think of me. :)
And last but not least, head across the parking lot to the free-​standing building in the back and check out the huge selection of specialty stationery.
Love this store and am so glad to know it has survived the years and is still thriving!
