Since October of 2012, the Azerbaijan Center has been involved in the promotion of mutual understanding, appreciation & cooperation between the citizens of Houston, Texas and Baku, Azerbaijan. In addition to this involvement, the Azerbaijan Center provides a physical facility in the heart of the Montrose area for activities, events, and community gatherings.
The Azerbaijan Center also works very closely with the Houston Baku Sister City Association (HBSCA). HBSCA is a member of Sister Cities of Houston and one of Houston’s 17 Sister Cities.
As a volunteer based organization, our activities are managed by the President in consultation with the Board of Directors. The Azerbaijan Center is a non-profit organization 501 © (3) and receives administrative and financial support from a very active volunteer community and generous corporate sponsors.
History
Established in 2012.
Our Mission:
Strengthening of official and economic relations between Texas and Azerbaijan. Facilitate opportunities for Azerbaijanis living in Texas to maintain a close connection with home country, Azerbaijan.
To implement the mission, Azerbaijan Center was established to be the center for the preservation, promotion and celebration of Azerbaijani culture, heritage, and art by hosting cultural events and activities for the greater Houston community. Besides cultural efforts, Azerbaijan Center will also develop networking opportunities for the Texas business community, interested in doing business with Azerbaijan and vice versa.
Meet the Manager
Irada A.
Manager
Irada was born in Baku, Azerbaijan and has been the CEO of the Azerbaijan Center since its opening. After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from Baku State University and completing Extended Psychology studies at the Center for Psychological Studies in Baku, she began her career in 1988 as a High School Counselor and Language Instructor at one of the main high schools in Baku. Her primary professional experience is in education, languages, cross cultural orientation and project/event management. She is fluent in English, Russian and Azeri, and has life and work experience in various countries, including Azerbaijan, Spain, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
