Austin Canoe and Kayak

I was very excited to go to this store because I just started to kayak fish. Arriving on location I was happy to see the wide array of kayaks and kayak accessories. I was not able to find the accessory I was looking for so I asked a worker there to help me find it. In return the worker asked me what kayak I have. I told him the kayak I have and he completely bashed the company. He then walked me to the show room and tried convincing me to buy a new kayak. I understand that I do not have the best kayak, but I was not looking to buy a $ 1000+ kayak that the worker was recommending.
The two main problems I had with this location was.
1 Instead of helping me with what I asked for he was trying to solve the problem with something irrelevant.
2 The biggest thing was, when an elderly man was leaving the store after getting his kayak fixed, he told the worker have a great day. Afterwords the worker whispered to me people like him needed to die. This just blows my mind that someone would say this.
I’m sorry I will not be returning

Advice to your marketing/​logistics team, remove shipping delivery timeframes from your website. Your relationship with your shipping vendor is lacking, they point fingers at you and your CS team point fingers at them. You have missed the delivery window, no visibility from the customers viewpoint, unprofessional explanation and apparently 8 – 9 days is similar to 1 – 5 days. You’ve lost my future business.

I bought an anchor trolley from
online and called Austin Canoe & Kayak to set a time to have it installed. They installed it the next day. The customer service is amazing and every employee is experienced in kayaking, fishing and knows all of their products. Any kayak angler should stop by and check them out. You will be very pleased. I’m so happy that they have a location here in Houston.

ACK is a gem! The team were great to me several weeks ago when I showed up to rent 2 yaks and transport them on my jeep for the first time ever. My janky roof rack was somewhat questionable, and the guys spent nearly an hour fixing it up so I could safely get the boats down to the coast and enjoy the beautiful day. When all was said and done, Aaron spent several hours educating and helping me out. It was a great experience — can’t say enough good things about them.

Great guys in this store. If you are interested in kayaking but not sure what you need the team at ACK can really help you out. They have a really nice selection of boats to choose from also. If they don’t have exactly what you need they can get it for you. I’ve bought several boats from them and it’s always been a great experience.

These guys are not only knowledgeable but friendly and helpful. John, Shawn and Ben helped us out on our deal after a mix up with our rental. All while working on the fourth of July! We’ve been coming here for several years now and have had few negative experiences. Shawn, one of the new managers, is awesome we talked at length about our favorite spots to kayak in the greater Houston area.

There are some great people and kayaks here, but customers have to sit/​walk around and wait because they do not have enough supporting staff to see people efficiently. It’s a shame because I really liked it here other than everything taking a long time due to multiple other things going on such as installs, phone calls, and multiple walk-​ins. With a little more help and space/​organization it could be an amazing place.

Ordered an item from ACK for the price offered and free shipping. First time using them and once ordered was received it was missing parts at no fault to ACK. Called and spoke to rep Chase who resolved the issue within the same business day and parts were received within less than 24 hours. Could not ask for a better situation to happen! Thank you Chase!

Very helpful, courteous, respectful, and professional staff. They are very knowledgeable and helped my choose my first kayak. It also helps to be a TKF member (Texas Kayak Fisherman) because you can get 10% off kayaks/​canoes/​paddleboards and 15% off all accessories like yeti coolers, life proof cases, paddles, etc. Would highly recommend buying a kayak there. And to those of you who really like to try them out first, they will rent you a kayak and discount the total amount spent from rental toward the purchase of a kayak.

I ordered a shirt that should have fit, but didn’t. I asked do an exchange. So they sent me a RA #. I had to pay for shipping to send it back. I was expecting to have the larger size sent to me, instead they refunded the item. I called to see what happened and they told me to reorder the item. Great, except the item was on sale and now it’s not. thanks, but no and probably never again!

The only constructive criticism i have is that I wish you could get a little more attention and advice from the people working. They seem to know their stuff, but even after asking for help, I get a quick answer and then the staff walk away. This has happened on multiple visits.

Big thing for newcomers to the sport: You can rent before you buy. Or, you can attend one of their events at a lake, where you can try many brands and sizes.
This is the best kayak store in and around Houston. They have a big selection of Hobie and Native kayaks, and other excellent quality kayaks.
I have had a Hobie Mirage pedal-​power for a few years and love it. I use the paddle to vary the exercise.
The workers are always busy doing something but are observant enough to see if you look like you need help, and are jolly on the spot to offer help.
My trip here was for a kayak roof rack. They don’t like to open the packages for obvious reasons, so you better do your research online as much as you can for these accessories.

Austin Canoe and Kayak in Houston was formerly Canoesport. The store was sold to ACK a little over a year ago and received a tremendous face lift as well as an attitude adjustment. The store employees are very patient as well as very knowledgeable with their customer service.
They have over 50 models of kayaks and Canoes in store as well as over 1,200 accessories.
It’s such a great place to shop.
