We hired Alphorn Bakery after meeting with about 5 vendors who wanted to charge 2k plus for their cakes. We found them luckily since they were inside of the loop. We had a cake tasting and showed them designs of the cakes we wanted and gave us an amazing price… a forth of what other people were charging. Our cakes were made exactly the way we wanted… I wanted a cake shaped like a Longhorn and they didn’t disappoint. We were able to see the cakes the day before and verified it was right. On the day of the wedding, the cakes were one of the first things to be delivered and they were able to add on the flowers and our cake topper. People devoured the cakes… luckily we had a taste! I would recommend them… you get the highest quality cakes and not for an arm and a leg.

I had a great experience using Alphorn. I found them on Unilocal,sent an email to Peter Hobi with a picture of cake I wanted and he responded quickly that they could replicate the cake, so I was in. I had never heard of Alphorn and decided to take a chance. They required a 50% deposit on the cake in cash or check, which I thought was suspect at first but after going to the bakery I felt better. It’s not a typical bakery with a store front with cakes on display. It’s in a windowless brick building in fourth ward. You walk right into an industrial kitchen. You have to walk in towards the back to get to the office. I was very pleased with the cake. It looked exactly like the picture I sent them and tasted great. It was a hit at the party!

Could not have been more delighted with our beautiful wedding cake! It was EXACTLY what we asked for to the letter and our guests loved it! We will definitely be ordering a replica of our top tier for our anniversary. Could not be more pleased with our experience.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Peter and his staff at Alphorn Bakery. Peter is very knowledgeable, friendly and he can do just about anything you throw his way. Our wedding cake was delicious and we received compliments on it the entire night of our wedding. Best of all, Peter’s prices are extremely reasonable and he offers cake stand rentals. I would recommend Peter to any bride who is looking for a great cake and a positive experience for her big day.

I asked them to make a cake for my husband’s birthday. Probably it was short notice but I ordered a really tiny cake. After several follow ups over the phone, I didn’t receive a response from them. So, I decided to go over and check it out for myself. It seemed no one had an iota of idea what I was talking about. They promised me a cake and then didn’t deliver. I ended up buying over the counter cake since there was no time left to order another one. What I could make out was probably they only cater wedding cakes.
Nevertheless I would NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. Beware if u plan on getting customized birthday cakes. Horrible experience.

Two years ago I entrusted Alphorn Bakery to create the perfect wedding cake. And they did! Now, it’s time to celebrate a blessed milestone –my 50^th Birthday. Peter created the perfect Denim & Diamond 50^th Birthday Cake. plus 50 Red Velvet cup cakes. Everything looked stunning and it was TASTY!

Called a month in advance for a baby shower cake. Very easy to work with, easy to make changes and adjustments. I sent them a picture as the basis for a gender Nuetral champagne and gold gender cake. When I arrived to pick it up the two strips of fondant were supposed to be champagne color and happened to look too pink. She changed it immediately to a brown fondant. Still looked great and worked out great too! Would definitely use them again.

I really hate to write bad review but I am so disappointed in this bakery I have no choice. I chose this bakery to make me a cake for my boyfriend’s birthday and what I requested vs. what I received was very bad. I found a picture of a Superman cake on Pinterest and asked if they could duplicate it using the batman logo instead. They assured me that this would not be a problem, however when I received the cake it was very unappealing and lacking in detail. The batman logo look as if it were drawn and cut out by a second grader, the shirt wasn’t as pictured in my request, and batman had no muscles as this is what I was expecting. The tie or what was suppose to be the tie look as if they just took icing and strung it around the neck. Didn’t look at all like a tie. To say the least the detailing on the cake was horrible. I chose not to complain at the time of pick up because I figured although it isn’t very appealing it’ll taste better, I was wrong. The cake was very hard and dry and lacking flavor. No one would even touch this cake after seeing us struggle just to cut it. I don’t blame them much because the cake just was not good. For the amount of money spent on this cake it turned out to be maggot food because 97% of the cake is now in the trash. I would have done better going to Walmart for a cake for wayyyyyyyy less money. I had such high hopes for this bakery after reading the reviews and boy was I wrong. To top it off when I emailed them about it, they came off as rude and uncaring as if what I was telling them was wrong. Horrible looking and bad tasting cakes with terrible customer service. Never again will I do business with this bakery. If I could give them negative stars I would.

My mother ordered my birthday cake from Alphorn and they did a stunning job! Even though I’m an adult, I love Alice in Wonderland and they DEFINITELY delivered on this cake theme with such detail (plus it tasted great!).
It was a last minute order and they had it completed on time and it looked great, overall I would highly recommend them!

I ordered a cake for a baby shower I threw. I sent them a picture of what I wanted and they nailed it. The cake was not only pretty, it was also very delicious. I’ve seen pretty cakes that don’t taste good or vice versa. But everything here was great. Everyone loved the cake. Especially the parents to be. It was a big hit and customer service was great. Will definitely be ordering from them again.

I hate to write a review here, but I feel inclined.
This is our 1 year wedding anniversary. We used Alphorn for our cake a year ago.
With all the planning people do for a wedding, believe me when I say that there will be issues on the wedding day. That’s just the way it is. The guests won’t notice, but the ones who do the planning will.
With that in mind, we spent our hard earned cash for the cake at Alphorn. 4-​tier cake. Well, flavors were incorrect and fillings were incorrect. We chose not to complain or push the issue because guests didn’t know the difference of what the flavors were supposed to be. Plus, with the events that took place with it being a wedding and the one piece we ate, we didn’t find out until after speaking to people days and weeks later when cake was in the discussion and flavors were mentioned. In other words, my wife and I didn’t play detective and taste every tier to see if it was what we ordered.
Fast forward to today, our 1-​year anniversary. Alphorn offers $ 15 for recreating our top tier as a way to celebrate the anniversary. After the excitement of getting the cake, once again the filling and flavor is incorrect. Plus, the cake is dry. We didn’t even eat a whole piece and will probably throw it away.
More managing to ensure flavors are correct is needed here. Seems like a busy bakery. While they offer great prices, maybe people should pay a little more for a bakery that pays more attention to big details.

I was looking for a customized cake decorator for my graduation cake and came across Alphorn. The positive reviews are what encouraged me to use their services.
I showed them the cake design I was seeking, and they more than exceeded my expectations! Everyone at my party was raving about not only how beautiful it looked, but how fantastic it tasted. Many were asking for Alphorn’s contact info. I will certainly be using Alphorn for future events. :)

The WORST cake I have ever had and WORST customer service. When i called Peter to let him know that there was a problem with the cake I had ordered for a 25^th anniversary party for 45 people (the cake was extremely dry, so much so that multiple guest at the party said «well at least it was pretty») he told me that he should have charged me double for the cake. Not my problem that your employees don’t know how much to charge for a cake. Never apologized for our experience. This was the 4^th cake we had ordered from Peter. So we were repeat customers. So sad that he had to treat a repeat customer so poorly! Will NEVER order nor recommend his business to anyone.

I love Alphorn Bakery. I ordered a cake last year for my sister’s baby shower, and it was very fairly priced (~$ 85). This year, I bought a cake for my niece’s birthday party with the same flavors and same size, and the price was ($ 180). Without the fox topper, it would be priced at $ 130. Luckily, my sister saved the topper from the baby shower so I opted for the more affordable price. The cake was absolutely beautiful! The italian cream layer was too sweet for my taste, but the chocolate decadence was delicious. My docking of 1 star is only because of the significant price change… and the fact that when I was in the bakery picking up the cake, I saw a man smoking a cigar while icing a box of cupcakes – doesn’t seem very sanitary or professional.

Out of 5 bakeries we met (and had tastings with,) we chose Alphorn because they were the second lowest cost, second best tasting, and the number one at producing clean, perfect buttercream cakes.
We met with them once and agreed to spend $ 400 on a 3-​tier wedding cake for 100 people, and $ 50 for a quarter chocolate/​chocolate sheet cake with sports logos piped on. (No tax, no delivery fee.) For the main cake, we also got to choose a different flavor and filling combo for each layer. The raspberry amaretto was by far the best, followed by the white chocolate apricot, and then the Italian. We decided we wanted round tiers for top and bottom and a hexagon for the middle.
A couple months before the wedding when we went to pay the remaining balance, we sent in our logos for the grooms cake and verified the design for the main cake. I also told them we wanted to actually have all three layers be circles and not have a middle layer be hexagon. I wrote this in red text and asked them to confirm the change. Gloria responded back and confirmed.
The day of our wedding, the hexagon was on the cake and not the circle change we had asked for. Not the end of the world. However, something that was totally out of the blue was the fact that instead of piped dots or something between the layers, they decided to put silver rhinestone edging. It looked tacky, trashy, didn’t match my wedding colors and was never something we discussed or something I asked for. I happened to be walking through the ballroom when they delivered the cake, and the delivery guy was rude and slow– he insisted there was no way it could be changed, and because it was a Sunday, I’d just have to deal. I told him that when I met with Peter and Gloria, they insisted that if some cake-​mergency were to happen, like falling up the stairs with the cake, etc., they’d call everyone in and fix the cake. This was a very, very simple change that needed to happen. I told them I could live with the hexagon tier but that it’d be great if they could just pull off the rhinestones and pipe some buttercream there. It should take 5 minutes, and my wedding downtown was very close to the bakery… and there were 3 hours before the wedding started. I also had told them I did not want a foil plate underneath the cake, but that if it weren’t possible to go without, I wanted it to be gold, not silver. The day of, it was silver. My colors were coral and gold and while not a huge deal, it was just one of 3 errors Alphorn made, 2 of which could not be corrected according to them. (Truly, above and beyond and exceptional service would have called everyone in and remade the cake exactly like I asked.)
Eventually they left and brought it back with that corrected. The groom’s cake looked so so and the details on the cake once fixed were flawless– which is the main reason I went with Alphorn. No dents or cracks in the buttercream, etc. I’m just glad I didn’t have a more complicated cake than I did or I could see how their communication issues could’ve been disastrous.

This place did an excellent job on the baby shower cake I ordered for my baby. They are so professional and do excellent fresh cakes. Every ingredient it made fresh and you really can tell. They did my baby shower cake based off a picture provided and it looked exactly like

My boyfriend ordered my birthday cake from here and requested an Eiffel tower cake since I absolutely love Paris. They said okay we can do that, it’ll be $ 100. Fine okay, so Friday rolls around and he calls to confirm the cake time for pick up and they said, yes your set and it would be $ 40. He was puzzled about why the price had dropped $ 60. So Saturday morning he goes to pick up the cake and what we got was an ugly cake with ugly décor with maraschino cherries bordering the cake and pink flowers around what was supposed to be the Eiffel tower. Nothing even went together on the cake, it looked awful. Basically the Eifflel tower was put onto some fondant and cut out and stuck in the middle of the cake. Disastrous! The informed him they could not make the original cake he requested, fine okay, did they not think to call and let him know in advance? Instead of designing a different cake of their choice. The cake was okay, I was hoping it would at least taste good to make up for how ugly it was but nope. I wouldn’t have paid $ 40 for it but my boyfriend did anyways since they already made it. The sad thing is I’ve had way better looking cakes and tastier cakes from HEB bakery. I’m sorry to give this a bad review based on all the great reviews, but this was our experience here. I’m sure the owners are great and nice, but the cake we received was awful and I had to share my experience. Looking at the photos of their work from other Unilocalers I would not have expected a cake like the one we received over the weekend from this bakery. It just baffles me that they did not call to let my boyfriend know that the original cake he requested could not be made, instead of making whatever they wanted. That part is what annoys me. Next time call your customer and inform them!

I came here based off other Unilocal reviews and I’m so glad I did! Although it was a far drive and I had to pick up the cake a day before my son’s birthday party because they aren’t open on Sundays, it was worth it because other places closer to me had quoted me up to four times the price I paid for this cake! Yes, four times! The attention to detail is great and the communication as well. The cake was moist and not overly sweet. The fruit filling was fresh. The frosting was light and fluffy. Everyone really liked it and asked me where I got it.
This is not a traditional bakery. It’s a commercial kitchen that also makes prepared food. I was a little surprised when I walked in expecting a traditional bakery but was pleasantly surprised when I was greeted by the owner. I also saw one of the other employees making a wedding cake which looked amazing. The owner told me a bit about his business and even gave me a sample of the croutons they had just finished making.
I love finding businesses like this on Unilocal!So happy I found this little gem and will be ordering all my cakes from here in the future.
