Alexandra Pellicena, MD

First off, I don’t agree with any of the negative reviews about Dr. Pellicena. I have seen her for all 3 of my pregnancies (this is my 3^rd baby and he is due early next year). I also saw her when I was a young adult/​late teens and I have had nothing but a good experience with her. Her bedside manner is excellent and my primary care doctor was the one who initially referred me to her many moons ago. The staff does not usually answer the telephone, but they do call you back within a few hours. She always takes the time during every appointment to ask if I have any questions and answer them very thoroughly. My husband and mother (RN) even like her and they requested I not go to any other obgyn, as they were also impressed by her bedside manner and professionalism. I have never had her get ugly about anything, nor has the staff become ugly with me. Again, I totally don’t agree with the negative reviews on here. I have been to doctors offices where I have in fact had a bad experience, but this isn’t one of them.

I love love love her she is the best she has been my obgyn since 2009 for all my 3 pregnancies also, i am pregnant once again and she will continue this pregnancy also. I love that she is the one who delivers the baby, she is bilingual which helps alot. I have referred couple friends over to her and they have been satisfied. The staff is very nice. I usually don’t have to wait that long before i go in i have a few times but its because she is in the delivery room at Memorial herman. I would give her and her staff 10 stars if i could. She is the best!!!

For starters Dr. Pellicena was my first obgyn if that isn’t scary in itself. The whole experience at this office was just traumatizing for me. I went to this office cause of the location being so close to my home and she was a woman which is what I preferred at the time. I went for my yearly pap and found out during that I was pregnant. 3 weeks after my pap I went in for an ultrasound to see my little angel and there was nothing to see. Dr Didn’t seemed worried, she just thought dates were off. I did blood work and was scheduled to come back two weeks after. My initial impression of her wasn’t bad, she just wasn’t attentive and rushed through my appointment without explaining anything to me. My blood work was posted on her patient portal and her/​her staff made an error when posting my results and posted that I was HIV positive instead of negative. The information posted on a Friday and I wouldn’t be able to get ahold of anyone until Monday. So I was an emotional wreck trying to figure out how something like that could happen to me and what that would mean for my baby and I. I called Monday to confirm my results and it was an ERROR. The dr didn’t seem apologetic at all and was just nonchalant about the whole situation but I was so hurt. Anyway, I went in for my follow up appt to finally see my baby and dr P apologized for the error by giving me a bag of gummy bears-​like it would help. there was still nothing in my ultrasound… My sac kept growing but no fetal growth. She told me I was having a miscarriage and walked out the room. She told me she would prescribe me pills and the baby would pass. There was no compassion or sympathy. It was just a horrible experience over all. Her staff is nice, they answer the phone for the most part. Doctor P could just work on her bedside manners and really pay attention to result posting on her portal.

I read a lot of negative reviews on here, and all of them DO NOT sound like any experience I’ve had with Dr. Pellicena. From the beginning, she’s been great. At my initial pregnancy visit, she took her time and answered any questions I had. I had a problem with the answering service answering machine (not being able to get to the answering service), but when I brought it to the office’s attention, Dr. Pellicena apologized to me and they fixed it. I was glad that they were attentive to that and didn’t dismiss my concern. I’m brought back quickly for my appts, within 5 – 10 of my appt time and I’m not kept waiting for a long time either. So far my experience has been great and her office is in a convenient location.

I have visited this office 3 different times and each time should have been a red flag to me. As others have stated, Dr. Pellicena will not make eye contact with you, avoids your questions, and offers for you to make another appointment in order to have a discussion with her. On my last and final visit I was supposed to have an ultrasound done. She even TOLD ME during my last appointment that the ultrasound was the sole reason for the follow-​up that I needed to make.
On the day of my appointment she did an exam and then recommended an ultrasound. I said that the whole reason I even came today was for that procedure. She proceeded to argue with me and then say that I couldn’t get it done in her office that day and that I would need to make another appointment or have it done at an outpatient imaging center.
She refused to acknowledge my questions about some other issues I had been having and told me that she «doesn’t handle those things» and that I needed to see another doctor. Excuse me? You can’t treat a HORMONAL ISSUE that is related to my menstrual periods?
I will never return to her office after this last experience. For what it’s worth, the office staff seems nice enough.

Never mind what I said before she is horrible !!!
I went to my second check up and they didn’t even knew why I was their for !!!
I had to tell them why and not only that I told my nurse I had a bunch of questions for the doctor regarding my pregnancy !!!
When I finally saw her she treated me like I was a stupid women !!! And in the ultrasound I was so happy to see my first child inside I laugh a bit and even she dare scream at me telling me to behave !!!
I was like !! You for real ???
I am not going with her again, if she was having a bad day take it somewhere else not on a pregnant woman!!!

I was very disappointed with this office. I arrived at 11:20 AM for my 11:30 AM appointment, I wasn’t called back until 11:45 AM. I was asked to pay up front before the dr saw me, but when I asked for an itemized receipt she told me I had to wait until after my visit. Then why ask me to pay for services that have not be rendered? I had to pay full price for my exam which was fine but when the nurse saw my daughter she said she couldn’t come in. I asked why she said Drs preferences. For $ 360 I was not expecting my daughter not to be welcomed to see her sibling for the first time.
Another thing that bothered me a receptionist was talking to a patients family member across the room and called out the patients full name and let them know where the patient went, which is against HIPPA.
I got a return of my money of course and will not be going back to see this dr.
Other reviews I read now talked about the nurses using sticky notes I did see that the nurse had posted notes in her hand and was surprised. I suggest not going to this Drs office.

If I could give zero stars, I would.
This review is a few months overdue and I’ve long changed to another doctor, but I felt I should warn others. Contrary to her self-​written profile, Dr. Pellicena is NOT caring and NOT compassionate. She hates patients who ask too many questions, who are worried and need more explanation, and have concerns about all the possible consequences and side effects relating to medical/​pregnancy procedures. She made me feel stupid for asking questions and for expressing my concerns. I should have known something was off when our visits only lasted 5 – 10 minutes, and she would go into laborious details about small things while skipping past explanations when it comes to issues that I show interest/​concern in. When a doctor has a habit of avoiding direct eye contact with you while talking, it’s a red flag.
Dr. Pellicena talked down to me and made me feel like she was the boss and it’s either her way or get out. Her tone was condescending and she went on the defensive after she decided she didn’t like where my questions were going, shutting down at one point for a full minute to stare into space (I couldn’t believe this mature professional, a DOCTOR, was actually sitting in a chair and SULKING) because she didn’t like me being persistent in trying to get answers to my questions, questions she either wasn’t able or wasn’t willing to answer. She is impatient and completely devoid of empathy. Zero bedside manner.
Her staff tries and I do appreciate them for that. Small things show that the office environment is not the happiest. It’s the doctor that’s the real problem here.

Made an appointment with her for my annual exam. When I came in, which was during work hours and on my lunch break. I was told by the extremely unprofessional receptionist that I had no appointment! Even though I showed her my appointment card. I didn’t get so much as an «I’m sorry we can try to fit you in»… I was pissed. So I left. And never looked back

I scheduled my yearly check-​up with Dr. Pellicena, but I didn’t even get to meet her. The student who performed my check-​up was really great, but she couldn’t answer all of my questions so she had to go to the doctor and come back to me with responses. As a new patient, I do not appreciate being overlooked by the doctor with whom I made an appointment. It feels disrespectful. I’m not sure if I will return again, just for that simple reason.

Every time I come here I wait for 20 minutes to be brought in by her assistants and then another 10 – 15 minutes before I am seen by the Dr.
Then, she sees me, does my exam and in 10 minutes we’re done. I always try to ask questions because I’m obviously concerned for my health but then she says «You can schedule another appointment to discuss that.» And rushes me out to see her next appointment.

What an amazing GYN. I came here to make an appointment for some girly problems, and they were kind enough to work me in within the hour. Here’s my review:
Office — clean and uncluttered.
Office staff — very sweet and made me feel like I was a person and not a number. They were laughing with me, and just had a positive vibe about them– kudos
Dr — she was very professional and quite funny! I couldn’t stop laughing. Dr. P really took the time to make me feel important and listen to my needs. She never discounted what I said, and for that, I’m grateful. She gave me many options to choose from, but never pushed anyone of them on me. I like that a lot!
I’d give her 6 stars if I could. Give her a try, you’ll thank me later.

Completely rude! She was in a rush to see me in and out and told me a few things, I tried to ask her again because I was confused (first time pregnancy, of course I have a lot of questions) and her response, while trying to head out the door, «what do you mean you’re confused? We just had a whole conversation about it just now!» Wow, she sure knows now to put a patients mind at ease, do not go here! Find someone else!

My previous ob/​gyn was absolutely incredible but retired to teach! I was devasted bc it had taken me forever to find a gentle, patient friendly doctor. I decided to try Dr. Pellicena bc she was in my insurance group. It turns out are is amazing! Facility was clean, parking was easy, staff was friendly and helpful. She took time to answer my questions. There was almost no wait time. I was in and out in a jiffy! Also her practice has gone 100% electronic which is extremely efficient and effective in terms of my capabilities in looking up medical history, booking an appointment, and requesting a Rx refill. I have definitely found my ob/​gyn in the height :)
